Story
Meet Rex, such a happy, gentle, and affectionate guy who can’t wait to show you all the love he has to give.Rex originally came to an AL shelter as a tiny six-week-old puppy in 2019 and was adopted into what he believed was his forever home. He grew up so loved and safe.Life changed suddenly when Rex’s owner passed away, and through no fault of his own, Rex was left with nowhere to go. Now, six years later, he finds himself back in the same shelter. The jet-black puppy they once knew now had a soft salt-and-pepper muzzle, a quiet reminder of years spent being cherished.Rex is truly gentle, affectionate, and clearly used to home life. He is housetrained, which is no surprise after spending so long as a beloved family dog. He has also done well with both male and female dogs and would likely appreciate a calm, loving environment to settle into again. He is definitely a favorite among the shelter staff. They even selected him as the representative at their recent Ground Dog Day event. This sweet boy also recently went on a day trip with a volunteer and was amazing! He was an excellent car rider and a great walker on his leash!Rex was a rock star at the local doggie splash center. He did not hesitate to head up to the pool and inspect it. He first tested his sea legs and then went in a second time and even swam a bit in his own. After that, they decided to give him a chance to try the treadmill. He was a fast learner and quickly found his rhythm, enjoying a nice 20-minute run on the treadmill. Before getting dropped off, he then gave his date some quality snuggle time. This boy just loves everything! After losing the only home he ever knew, he’s shown nothing but resilience, loyalty, and a heart still wide open to love. He didn’t just lose his person — he lost his whole world — yet he remains the same wonderful, devoted dog who once made someone’s life brighter every single day. Now he’s simply waiting for a second chance. Rex deserves a home filled with the same warmth, security, and unconditional love he so freely gives. If you’re looking for a truly great dog with a heart of gold, he’s ready to be yours.Name: RexBreed: Appears to be a BullTerrier Mix (no guarantees)Sex: MaleAge: 6 years estimatedWeight: 46.0Spayed/Neutered: YesVaccinations: Up to dateHeartworm: Negative on recent testingMicrochipped: YesBASED ON OUR OBSERVATIONS:Good with Children: Over 7Good with Dogs: YesGood with Cats: Unknown - not exposed, but his caretakers feel a cat test may go very well.Adoption Fee: $550.00  (includes transport fee when applicable) $100-150 additional fee applies to mandatory quarantine for Massachusetts residents.Location of dog currently:    New England 2/20IMPORTANT INFORMATION - Paws New England is a foster-based rescue; our dogs reside in various locations throughout the south & New England.  Adoption donations cover pre-adoption vet costs (including vaccinations, spay/neuter when age appropriate, and heartworm testing/treatment when necessary), a microchip, and transportation to New England if necessary.Donations for our young, healthy puppies and dogs support their fellow canines of advanced age or suffering from injuries and abuse whose donations are reduced but whose veterinary costs are typically much higher. Meet Shirl Shirl: Our Pint-Sized Queen! *Please note: Shirl is currently in a foster home and is available by appointment only. Please call (401) 467-3670 or email HeartofRIadoption@gmail.com to schedule a time to meet her.* Shirl is a 13 year old, female, micro Bully mixed breed. Shirl Shirl is finally living the good life she always deserved. This mini bully was used as a backyard breeder for far too long, but don’t let her past fool you—she’s got enough sass and sparkle to make up for lost time! Shirl is a hilarious little bowling ball of love. Most of her day is spent snuggled up snoozing like the royalty she is, but when she’s up, she’s full throttle on tiny legs—charging into your heart and straight for the treat jar. She’s quirky, snorty, and full of personality, Shirl is the perfect blend of couch potato and comic relief. She is up to date on vaccinations. *PLEASE NOTE: DUE TO STRINGENT OUT OF STATE HEALTH CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENTS WE ARE NOW ONLY ADOPTING TO RHODE ISLAND RESIDENTS*. We apologize for the inconvenience.
