Koko Ranger ACCT-A-224158 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Koko Ranger must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or ADOPTER by WEDNESDAY, JULY 23RD at 10AM. Should Koko Ranger’s medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change.
Koko Ranger came to ACCT Philly after his previous owner, who had taken him in from a family member, realized they could not meet his needs. Despite their affection for him, they made the tough but loving choice to surrender him so he could find a home better suited to his needs. During his time at the shelter, Koko has shown himself to be affectionate and eager for attention. He enjoys lap time and loves tennis balls. Although he can be barky towards other dogs at first, he has had good meets while at the shelter. He’s easy to leash, walks well, and is more interested in human companionship than treats. With continued structure and guidance, Koko has the potential to thrive in a dog-savvy home. Due to his length of stay, Koko Ranger is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner or adopter.

BEHAVIOR:
**NEW** Per Volunteer: This delightful pup loves affection and showing off his bouncy dance moves. Koko did his business outside and walked very nicely on leash. He's got a zest for life and seems like he would love a family who can play with him and give him lots of pets. He loved playing with the tennis balls in the yard, and has an adorable bouncy run. After chasing the ball a few times, we stopped for some pets and he absolutely MELTED into my legs to get butt scratches. Such a sweet pup!!
Per volunteer 7/17 So sweet, loved pets and playing with tennis balls. Funniest spins after pooping.
Per volunteer 7/17 Great dog.
Per staff 7/15: Good dog.
Per volunteer 7/13: Very loose and wiggly body language when I approached his kennel in isolation. I opened the door and reached my hand in and easily was able to loop his head without any resistance. He had very loose body language and a very wiggly body. He’s a very exuberant boy and loves to jump up in your arms, taking pets all over. He is pretty vocal when he sees other dogs or people, barking and squealing in seemingly excitement. Took pets from me all over and overall a very wiggly, affectionate boy. Took him to the photo shoot and he remained very wiggly even with new handlers and more people around. Very attentive to loud or high pitched noises. Took him into a play yard and gave him cuddles. Take handling all over and a bit jumpy with affection. He was very vocal when another dog walked by. He’s actually really nice on leash with just some moderate pulling, but handler oriented. We started a meet but both dogs were hard barking and pulling strongly towards each other and ultimately decided not to let them meet as it didn’t seem to be a good match. Walked nicely back into kennel.
Per staff 7/12: Pulls on leash.
Per volunteer 7/6: Koko - was a little barky at first, but met Alie nicely through the fence and then parallel walked with her. Had some mutual sniffs of each other and also some side by side sniffing. We took them into the large pen, but Alie had been out for a while and seemed really hot, so we took them back.
Per staff 7/5: Koko was sitting on his bed with soft eyes. He came up slowly with mid level wags and was easy to leash. He came right out once secured and pulled minimally. He showed no interest in treats and allowed all handling. He sat in my lap for pets and would walk over alert barking and growling (through a barrier) at other dogs. I tried moving him away with treats but he wasn't interested and would come over when called. Gold.
Per staff 7/4: Koko has it written on his kennel card to “be careful, very dog reactive will go after!”
Per owner surrender notes: He likes to hug you and go on walks. Lived with adults and a dog. Fully housetrained, crate trained, medium energy, knows commands. They said he will look and bark at strangers, is normal towards children, will bark at dogs, and they don’t know how he is with cats.
MEDICAL:
On 7/6, Koko Ranger was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection (URI) or "doggy cold" and started on medication. He tested positive for pneumovirus and retested negative on 7/14. He is scheduled to finish doxycycline on 7/19.
During his intake exam on 7/2, Koko Ranger appeared to be in good health. His eyes, ears, nose, and coat were clean. His teeth were white with just a small amount of tartar. He is an intact male and weighed 46.6 pounds.
