Story
Tucker is a young, male Boxer mix with a big personality and an even bigger heart for the people he trusts. He’s social and eager on approach, easy to leash, and loves getting out of his kennel to explore. Tucker enjoys body handling and affection, though he can be easily distracted—there’s just so much going on in the world that catches his attention!Tucker is playful and energetic, especially when toys are involved. He has no issues with food or toy guarding and is happy to share space with people while eating. Squeaky toys are his favorite, and he enjoys interactive play with his handler. When it comes to new situations or unfamiliar people, Tucker can be unsure. He may bark or appear tense at first, especially if something looks or feels unusual, but with patience, calm handling, and positive reinforcement (treats help!), he is able to settle and build trust. Once he feels safe, his curiosity shines through.Tucker will need an experienced, adult-only home committed to continuing his behavior modification work. He is highly reactive to other dogs and must be the only pet in the home—no dogs and no cats. He would do best with adopters who understand fear-based reactivity and are willing to work with a professional trainer to help him feel more confident and secure.**Tucker’s Ideal Home:*** Adults only (no children)* No other dogs or cats* Experienced, patient adopters* Commitment to training and behavior support* A calm, structured environmentWith the right guidance and consistency, Tucker has the potential to be a deeply loyal companion who bonds strongly with his people. If you’re looking for a dog to invest time, understanding, and heart into—and you believe in second chances—Tucker may be your guy.Ask us about Tucker today and see if you’re the match he’s been waiting for.To complete adoption questionnaire: https://hamiltonmcnj.seamlessdocs.com/f/AdoptionApplicationTo see other available animals: https://www.hamiltonnj.com/173/Pets-Available-for-AdoptionHamilton Township Animal Shelter cannot offer any guarantees on the age, health, temperament, personality or mental disposition of any pet. Story
At about 2 years old and 62 pounds of handsome charm, Dominick is a playful, toy-loving pup who’s ready to find his person. This sweet boy has a soft spot for women and would thrive with an experienced dog owner who understands how to give him structure, patience, and love. He’s looking for a quiet, adult-only home where he can feel safe and finally relax.Dominick has been with us since February 2025, and shelter life hasn’t been easy for him. The noise and constant activity make him anxious, and he’s currently on medication to help him cope. But the good news? He’s showing real improvement — his personality is shining through more and more every day.Once you get to know him, you’ll see what a loyal, goofy, and affectionate companion he can be. Dominick absolutely adores his toys — you’ll often see him proudly carrying his favorite stuffed animal on walks, as if to show it off to the world. We know the right person is out there for him — someone patient, kind, and ready to give Dominick the calm, loving home he’s been waiting for.Could that be you? ??If you would like to meet Dominick, visit our website (www.HamiltonNJ.com/AnimalShelter) and complete an online adoption application. Story
Athena was born February of 2018 and I had her since until I moved to Tennessee and she currently resides with my mother at the moment. My mother cannot take care of her as she is getting older and not really too mobile. Athena is such a good dog with some beautiful hazel eyes and I would take her to Tennessee but I have young ones which takes most of our time and too busy to take care of Athena unfortunately. We love this dog and hate to see her go but this is our only option. Looking for a good family to take her in.

Story
Meet Chunk - **Status:** Seeking transfer to a qualified rescue for rehabilitation. Not available for adoption at this time. Chunk is a young, energetic girl with a big personality and an equally big heart. She is social, people-oriented, and thrives on interaction—but she needs the right environment and experienced guidance to help her succeed. In the kennel, Chunk is friendly at the gate and generally ignores dogs passing by, though she does pull moderately on leash. She enjoys body handling and petting, which often helps her settle, and she shows clear affection toward her handlers. She can become over-aroused with certain types of touch, particularly around her hind end, and benefits from calm, structured interactions. Chunk is playful and enthusiastic, showing a strong interest in interactive games and movement. During play-based assessments, she displayed high energy and excitement but was able to calm down with guidance. She is a **high-impact player** with other dogs and would do best with careful dog introductions and structured play. One of Chunk’s primary challenges is **global resource guarding**, particularly around food and high-value items. During assessment, she displayed defensive behaviors when her food or chews were approached, including barking and biting with quick release. Chunk will require **consistent behavior modification**, management strategies, and positive reinforcement work to address guarding behaviors safely.Chunk is very social with people and greets strangers with enthusiasm—sometimes too much enthusiasm—jumping and scrabbling in excitement. She will benefit from impulse-control training and routines that help her regulate her arousal levels.Chunk is **not suitable for a home with children** and requires **experienced dog handlers only**. She is best suited for a rescue organization equipped to work with:* Over-arousal and impulse control challenges* Food and toy resource guarding* Structured behavior modification plans* Confident, consistent handlingChunk is looking for a rescue partner who can see past her challenges and invest in her future. With proper rehabilitation, she has the potential to become a loyal and loving companion in the right environment.**If your rescue specializes in behavior modification and is prepared to support a high-energy, complex dog, Chunk would love the chance to begin her next chapter with you.**---
