Story
Lola came to us in the middle of whelping puppies. Someone reached out to us telling us a stray was giving birth outside their home. It was 8:30 PM and I had just pulled into my driveway... I had been out doing home visits. I asked the person if she could please just take mama and pups in and put them in a safe place for the night. She refused saying that she would not let them into her home.Being late October, it was too cold for newborn pups to spend the night outside.I made a few phone calls. I secured a foster home. My teen-aged daughter and I got into the car and headed out to pick up mama and pups. The people had placed mama and pups in a 24" hard plastic kennel that was WAY TOO SMALL. Lola laid on two of her puppies, killing them.Lola was very agitated when we got there. I would be agitated too if I was shoved into a kennel that was so small I could not even move.... Let alone she also had her newborn puppies in there with her!We loaded her into our van and then removed the top of the kennel. Lola was in "mama bear" mode.... not wanting anyone to get near her puppies. We drove them to an amazing foster home near El Paso and got them settled in,We scanned her for a microchip and were surprised to find that she has one. I called the owner and was told that they had moved and "gave her away" to someone. But, they did not have info on who they gave her to.We assume that they moved and just left her behind!Fast forward... Lola's two surviving puppies, Sushi and Wasabi, were adopted together by an amazing couple. It is Lola's turn. She is a VERY LOVING girl who gets along great with other dogs.

Story
Hello gentle people! My name is Grace! I'm not sure why my last family abandoned me, and I was very scared and nervous when I started living at Safe Haven with a lot of other doggies. The people here say that I was "emaciated" when I got here, but they say I look gorgeous now! I know it sure feels great to get fed breakfast and dinner EVERY SINGLE DAY! The doggy doctor thinks I was born around 5/27/2020 and that I am a Boxer/Boston terrier mixed breed. I just adore all the friends I have made here at the sanctuary, the doctor's office, and the Safe Haven Thrift Store. The Safe Haven people say that they named me Grace because my last family didn't treat me very nicely but I am still very friendly and show "grace" to the new humans in my life. Can I show YOU my "Grace"?Lots of love and licks,"Amazing Grace"Note from Safe Haven: we believe Grace had a rough life before coming to us. She will most likely take a little while to settle into a new home. It will be best for Grace if she is the only pet in a household with no children. Grace has learned many tricks and manners since coming to our sanctuary, and she is looking for patient people to teach her all about household living.
