Story
Meet Tank, a magnificent big boy who is eagerly awaiting his forever home! At the shelter, Tank's interactions with staff highlight his true, loving nature. He adores his stuffed toys and will hold one in his mouth with big tail wags when he's happy to see you. Tank loves to play tug and enjoys scratches, leaning against our legs like a big cat when receiving them, and rolling onto his back when he wants belly rubs.He can be stubborn at times but he is a sweetie that comes with a unique set of challenges that only add to his charm. Tank is ready to go into a loving home after fully recovering from an enucleation. He only has one eye, but still navigates his surroundings well, although he can be more sensitive to environmental stimuli. Tank is startled by fast moving vehicles and semi-trucks and is currently working on being able to tolerate them. He may occasionally jump towards them and because he is a strong boy, he will need a strong handler to take him on walks. Tank is still learning to get into kennels, crates, and cars, and we are diligently working on behavior modification using positive reinforcement to make these experiences more comfortable for him. His future family should be dedicated to continually working on these issues. High-value treats like chicken and Cheese Whiz have proven effective in helping to encourage him.He can be mouthy when excited, so practicing calm interactions with him and training will help him succeed in his new home. We are currently working with Tank on muzzle training, as it is a great skill to have. With continuous and consistent training, Tank is an amazing dog with lots of love to give. While we have not had the chance to test Tank's compatibility with other dogs, it is important to note that he has shown barrier reactivity towards the other dogs in our care. He also has a prey drive and will need a home with no other animals. Due to his specific needs, Tank would do best in a household without children. For the right person or family, Tank promises a heartwarming companionship like no other. If you're ready to open your heart to a big-hearted dog in need, Tank is waiting to become your loyal and loving companion!💙🐾Do you think you could be Tank's person? Here are some ways to find out:1.) Visit our centre to meet this pet during adoption viewings Friday to Tuesday noon to 3pm, learn more about their ideal match, and apply to adopt in person; or2.) Submit an online application adopt.spca.bc.ca and staff will contact the first suitable adopter to set-up a visit! Kindly note that due to the high number of applications and the availability of walk-in adoptions an online applicant would have to be available to come in for a meet within 24 hr. Story
Meet our VERY handsome resident Bear!Bear is a young dog in search of an active furever home that will take him for all sorts of adventures! Bear can sometimes be a bit reserved with new people, but once he gets to know you and is trusting, he's a big ham who adores to be with his favorite people. He especially loves to play soccer and keep away with his favorite toys, and will bounce and bound with happiness while he plays. With that said, Bear will need to go to a home with a good amount of outdoor space access, to accommodate his oodles of big boy energy! He is also an excellent climber and is capable of scaling tall fences. He adores toys and puzzles to use his brain! We know that Bear is afraid of confined spaces such as vehicles or kennels - so a home that is comfortable working to slowly get him comfortable with cars would be best, as well as a home that doesn't need to have him crated. A previous foster home put a lot of work into building his confidence around cars. He does have a few specific asks for his future home:-Bear would prefer an adult only home, he is jumpy and mouthy when excited and would not be a good fit for a home with kids.-Bear needs to be the only pet in his forever home, he can be selective with dogs he likes and dogs he doesn't.-Bear needs an experienced home that has had dogs before and can read his body language if he is uncomfortable. PLEASE NOTE: This dog is located on the Sunshine Coast and travel via BC Ferries is required to adopt. Appointments are preferred to adopt one of our animals. Please speak with shelter staff prior to visiting our branch. Please follow these steps if interested in adoption!1. View the animal's profile at adopt.spca.bc.ca 2. Submit an application https://spca.bc.ca/survey/dog-adoption-application-sunshine-coast/ 3. If it's a match, staff will contact you to set up an appointment for a meet & greet. 4. Live happily fur-ever after!*Side note: the more you add to your application (the last question) about you and what you are looking for in a canine companion, the better we can match animals with adopters! Primary Color: Brindle Secondary Color: White Weight: 34.7 Age: 1yrs 10mths 4wks
