Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. If you're working for home or just playing it safe by practicing social distancing, now is a perfect time to bring a new furry family member into the fold. Email us any questions about any cats we have and we will be happy to provide any additional information you may need. If you are approved for adoption, we are now doing curbside adoptions in order to minimize contact. Calypso is about 1 year old as of May 2025. She has spent a large portion of that time in confinement. That is not our usual protocol, but we were losing ground on her socialization when she came out of confinement. She was trapped as an older kitten with the intent to be socialized for adoption. Due to a series of unfortunate incidents, the window to return her back to her outside home closed, so we decided to continue efforts to socialize. Recently she has gained ground, and starts purring within a few minutes of being pet. She leans in for chin scratches, and starts to relax. She's nowhere near ready to be picked up, but she never tries the bite or scratch when pushed. She just wants to get away to her corner. We feel with time, and a small space with easily accessible spaces (no beds she can hide under) she will come around. It won't be easy, but nothing worthwhile is! She adores other cats, and a super friendly cat would likely help her get acclimated even more quickly. Apply for this beautiful girl now at safehousepets.orgVisit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.All of our cats have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, de-wormed, microchipped, and tested for FIV/FeLV. Natalie is about 9 1/2 years old as of February, 2026.  Decision making can be difficult. We have had Natalie and Sunshine back in our rescue for about a month now. Both have been examined at Ancare Veterinary Hospital , vaccinations updated, blood work (it was good!) and no need for dental. No further medical treatment is necessary for either of these 9 1/2 year old girls. We have tried to start to work with Natalie outside her confinement area. While holding her, her cries of fear are heartbreaking. We expect no different from Sunshine in rescue. We feel that it is time to move her and Sunshine to their proper FOREVER home if there is interest. One last move, one last transition versus trying to adapt to our busy rescue full of other cats and kittens and then another move to a home. Right now Natalie and Sunshine need this: 1. A commitment to love and care forever 2. A safe, quiet place to continue to adapt and overcome fears. 3. Patience and understanding and lots of love 4. Time to oversee eating and the ability to be patient, hold the plate, coaxing and encouragement 5. Local adopter who can work closely with us as they transition into their new home with Safe House providing any necessary medical treatment for the first 90 days. We did this with Pistacchio, another boy who lost him home of many years, who struggled to eat. He is thriving now and we are so happy for him. Setting aside all emotions of what we think should be, we do not find Natalie and Sunshine to be bonded. Natalie is very submissive Sunshine more dominant in her behaviors. Natalie is easily intimidated by Sunshine. They were separated after just a few days back into rescue when issues between them arose. While they could be adopted together, and would tolerate each other, they do not need to be adopted together. Natalie and Sunshine were adopted as babies from our rescue. They left with their front claws and a promise not to declaw, yet both are now front declawed. They are beautiful girls, so deserving of a real home and not a busy rescue.
