If you are interested in fostering please fill out an online foster application. Hi, I'm Finn, a gentle giant (Cane Corso / Presa Canario X) with lots of love to give! I'm a very mellow and well-mannered boy who walks well on a leash and seems to listen to commands. I've been through a lot of changes recently, having been abandoned at the kennel. It's unknown if I like other big dogs since I haven't had a chance to participate in playgroups just yet. I do not seem to care for small dogs. It's also unknown how I'd do with children or cats. I have a heart of gold and will make a great addition to your family. Please fill out an online application to come and meet me - you won't be disappointed!May 29, 2026, 7:00 pm

Story
Introducing Miss Cassie!“I am a sweet, shy, yet energetic Cane Corso husky mix. I seem to love all other dogs, am dainty yet love to romp and have a good play session! I am easy on a leash and beginning to learn basic commands. My past was a bit stressful for such a young pup, I have been taking time with my patient foster family and foster siblings to learn about family life. I am eager to greet you every morning but do like to go at my own pace getting to know you and am cautious about new people entering my space. I’m looking for patient owners, perhaps with another young dog for me to play with! I love to explore and prefer to have lots of opportunities to be active.”What her fosters have to say: Cassie is a stunning young female with deep, striking eyes that shine from beyond her charcoal face and muzzle. She has an ombré undercoat reminiscent of the husky within. She is quiet and in the several months she has been in foster we have been treated to her distinctive, melodic, low husky song only twice-matching the howl of outside wind and vocal pack of coyotes. We know little about Cassie’s early months other than the outwards signs of worry and quivering trepidation she once showed. In the space of just a few months, Cassie has truly shown her resilience and desire to join the family-at her own pace. She is curious and you can see the new trust building in her big beautiful eyes. She is dog and kid friendly. She has not been tested with cats. Has never shown an ounce of aggression, seeks slow affection and steady routine. Is food motivated and demonstrates easy trainability. Gentle on a leash- minimal pulling and requires only easy corrections. Beginning to learn basic command; Cassie will benefit from further socialization and obedience training.Cassie needs a patient placement that will not rush her but will earn the devoted company of a delightful, smart and loyal pup for many years to come. She has medium to high energy. Will need daily exercise. Cassie is approximately 10 months old, 55lbs. She was recently spayed, is housebroken, crate trained, UTD on all vaccinations. Every day she becomes more lighthearted!

Story
We rescued Lilliput from an abusive situation when she was about four months old. She was unexpected and unwanted by her original owner and she was not treated well. She was very nervous when we first took her in, and to this day she can be very neurotic, but she is very loving, wonderful with kids, very energetic, and eager to please. Lilliput’s only real issue is other dogs, and mostly the other large dominant female we have (a Great Pyrenees)—she actually gets along pretty well with cats and even with the other two dogs, though she can be a bit pushy around feeding time—never violent, except in the case of the other large dog. Unfortunately, we can’t trust the two large dogs around each other after a few big fights they had, but Lilliput would be a fantastic dog for a one-dog family, or even a companion for one person, as long as she gets the love and affection she deserves. It’s just too exhausting to keep these two separated all the time, and it isn’t fair to the dogs themselves.

Story
Alaska is a neutered male Anatolian Shepherd mix who’s less than 2yrs old & weighs around 73lbs. He’s been waiting at the shelter since July 20, 2025, and we truly can’t believe this boy is still here.Alaska plays so well with every dog he meets. His play-style is so fun and cute to watch. He’s also a very smart dog who reads other dogs well and doesn’t push any boundaries. Alaska has not shown any food or toy guarding around other dogs or people. He’s had several sleepovers where he’s been the absolute best house guest. He sleeps through the night without making a peep and will sleep in until you are ready to get out of bed. Like every dog, he could use a little basic training, but overall he’s such an easy, sweet guy to have around. He’s a big sensitive teddy bear who just wants affection and to be by your side. Unless you bring out the vacuum or hair dryer….Those big scary noises send him looking for a hiding spot! So be sure to keep him in a safe, enclosed spot as he can jump fences if he really wants to..When Alaska first came into the shelter, all of us assumed he’d be adopted immediately because he’s so good — and of course, so handsome But somehow he’s still waiting. The shelter environment is starting to wear on him. There is nothing we’d love more than to see him get the loving home he deserves. Alaska is a favorite among many of us and he’s been waiting long enough!??Santa Barbara County Shelter5473 Overpass Rd, Santa BarbaraTuesday–Sunday | 10 a.m.–5p.m.
