Story
Guachaqui is a bouncy, happy, goofy girl who came to the shelter with a pal. Both dogs were left behind on a property when the previous owner moved out and stayed with the new owner after that. Guachaqui was reportedly housebroken and her person described her as affectionate, playful and always by your side. They also said that she LOVES toys. While Guachaqui was a bit nervous when she first came the shelter, she’s really opened up and is a friendly, silly dog who loves to spend time out of her kennel. She has tons of playful energy and would make a great adventure buddy with a bit of training. Guachaqui shares her kennel and has been social and playful when meeting other dogs in playgroup. Story
Pending / Hold Maui is a Carolina Dog that has all the traits of this very special breed. He is undergoing socialization but in the time spent with him, he is going to be a charmer and a devoted companion. He loves other dogs and to romp and play with them. He is well behaved, never chewed. He is fearful of new experiences and people so will need a person who understands his needs. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 29, 2024, 12:38 pm

Story
Terra is a petite, medium sized dog that is most like a Carolina Dog mix (smaller) but shares many of the same traits. She has some particular needs due to her heartbreaking background and will require a very special home and person(s). Once she trusts you and starts to feel comfortable, she becomes a very loving, loyal, kiss-you-all-over best friend. Terra was originally trapped by the county in a rural desert area. She was terrified in the shelter, pregnant and lost her pup due to the stress. We rescued her and she spent a great deal of time with a caring, patient foster and family where she went through an extended decompression and acclimation period due to her extreme fear of people. She has since graduated into a different home to help ready her for adoptions and has acclimated well. She will always retain some inherent cautiousness so a quite home with a calm environment and low-key lifestyle would do best. Terra prefers to stay home where she feels most safe so she would be a great companion for someone who is retired, stay-at-home or just a home-body. She is well behaved and quite but alert, so if she hears something, she will bark to let you know. She is great with other dogs and cats and is a great buddy for a lonely canine. She is overall calm and quite but she also likes to play and will even leapfrog once she gets going. She likes chew toy treats and play with balls. Terra is housetrained, and loves scratches. Once she feels comfortable with you, she will sneak up if you are working or reading and give you little kisses...be prepared to occasionally get smothered in them when you wake up on the morning. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 29, 2024, 12:38 pm

Story
HOLD / PENDING Gypsy is a very intelligent, loyal girl who loves to play tag with other dogs. She knows all her basic commands and is extremely affectionate with people she trusts. She can get anxiety when outdoors on walks if there is traffic or loud noises. We believe this is because she was caught in a trap and her first real interactions with people was a traumatic experience.  She acts as the "welcome committee" for new dogs coming into our rescue and seems nurturing of the younger ones - showing them the ropes. She is very intuitive and has all of the behavior traits one would expect with a Carolina Dog.  We would anticipate her going to a new home and environment to be a daunting experience for her at first so a person who is breed familiar and willing to be patient and build trust on her terms is needed. Gypsy also loves other canine companionship and being part of a pack so a home with at least one other dog would be required for adoption.  Applications for adoption can be submitted at lovar.orgVisit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 29, 2024, 12:38 pm
