Story
I am in a foster home and not at the shelter. If you are interested in adopting, submit an adoption questionnaire by email. Learn more hereKirby is checking off the good dog boxes! He is still a shy boy who’s going to need time to get to know you before you get all of those sweet Kirby snuggles, but we think it’s okay for some of our dogs to be more selective about their friends. Adorable face? &#226&#156&#133 Party Ear? &#226&#156&#133 House trained? &#226&#156&#133 Good with some Cats?? &#226&#156&#133 Kirby has been in a few different foster homes with different cats, and he's gotten along with some of them--with others, he's been a bit of a brat. If you have a confident cat who will stand up to him, and are willing to do a slow, careful introduction, they might get along fine! Foster mom reports: As first time fosters, we can say that Kirby is quite easy to deal with: he needed some time to adjust and settle down, but he is now very respectful of our daily routine. He is quite independent during the day while I work from home: he is learning to go to the backyard by himself and most of the day, he plays with/chews on his toys in between naps. He enjoys quick walks and play-time during my breaks and I love when he randomly just places his chin on my leg and looks at me with his puppy eyes, asking for attention (it happens quite often and it's just so cute). He has also learnt that, when it gets dark outside and he hears steps out of the door, there is no need to bark or get alarmed, as it's my partner coming home from work and he welcomes them with the happiest dance ever. He would do great in a quiet place with one/some working-from-home humans as a solo-dog. If you are interested in adopting him, you will get a dog with his own personal brand, as we have just home-brewed a few IPAs and printed Kirby labels!  As one of his former fosters wrote: “My favorite Kirby activity, second to snuggling, was watching him play catch with himself. He would bounce his favorite ball for himself, off the floor and straight into his mouth. His joy is contagious!”  He also was easy going in a foster home with cats previously.  Want to get in on that joy, but not totally sure about adoption? Kirby has been selected for our pilot foster-to-adopt program. You can keep Kirby out of the shelter, and see if he might be the right fit for you! A smaller guy at 30 pounds, Kirby is only about 2 years old, and he needs to be the only dog in the home. Want to know more about Kirby? Story
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee. This dog will be at a meet and greet event on Saturday, April 6th at the Palo Alto Pet Food Express from 12-3pm, unless he/she is set up and adopted prior to the event. Those interested in meeting the dog can come out to our meet and greet event. We no longer do application approval onsite. Anyone adopting has been previously approved and set up to meet prior to the event. Adoption Fee: $700 The Pasta Puppies are a litter of 8 week old Dachshund x Yorkie mixes who are serving up cuteness and puppy kisses! The litter is 1 boy and 3 girls. These babies came to us with Mama Pasta from a hoarding situation with 12 other dogs. We arrived expecting a few adults and instead were met with puppies, Mama, and their friends. Well, we refused to leave anyone behind so these babies came with us and started their new lives! Mama was a 9 pound fluffy gal, so we expect these puppies to be in the 12-20 pound range when fully grown.     Alfredo: Alfredo (Alfie) is the snuggliest puppy of the bunch and is the first to “melt” into your lap. She weighs 7.5 pounds as of March 27. She is extremely affectionate and loves belly rubs as she gives kisses. She also loves getting her zoomies out in the yard as she races around on her little legs, chasing after her siblings as they play tug of war with their ever growing pile of toys. Alfie loves anything with a squeaker and is often found crawling under a table with a toy she has snatched from one of her littermates as she squeaks it in victory. Alfredo would love to cuddle forever with her new people!  Carbonara: Carbonara (Carb) may be little but she has no idea! She weighs 5 pounds as of March 27. This girl is a natural explorer and loves romping around the yard sniffing everything there is to encounter. Carb can hold her own against her bigger siblings and has adorable little puppy growls as she plays with toys. Carb loves to take a running start and tumble into the laps of her foster parents, pawing at their hands when they stop petting her before she decides they are done. Carbonara is usually at the bottom of the cuddle pile but is happy to shake off her siblings when she decides the time for rest is over. She loves all things nature, from leaves and sticks to grass and critters. Carbonara will make any home tastier, and that is a five star promise!  Marinara: Marinara (Mary) is the leader of the pack as the largest of the litter, but she leads with a quiet confidence. She weighs 10 pounds as of March 27. She loves to play and wrestle with her siblings but also loves making them chase her across the yard. Mary loves stuffed toys and her favorite toy is a mini Lamb Chop which she will zoom around happily with until she is ready for a long nap. Mary was the most cautious at first when trying new things, but she has found that spending an afternoon curled up in the lap of her foster parent means hours of snuggles and kisses. Marinara is the most like her Mama temperament wise, and we know she is going to be a lovely addition to her forever home. Any day with Marinara promises to be a Mary one!  Pesto: Pesto may be the solo boy of the litter but he doesn’t let his sisters keep him down! He weighs 6 pounds as of March 27. This confident and charismatic dude leads the way in daily zoomies and snuggles. One minute, he is chasing his sister across the lawn and the next he is crashing into your lap for cuddles. He helped his sisters realize how amazing snuggle time is and flops on top of them when everyone is ready for a nap. Pesto is a true gentleman and gives sweet kisses to his many admirers, winning even the staunchest #TeamCat person over with his soulful eyes and wagging tail. Pesto promises that you will fall in love with him faster than you can say P(r)esto!   The puppies sleep overnight in their crate until around 7 AM when their foster parents start their day. They head straight outside to the backyard for potty and playtime before breakfast is served in their pen. Weather permitting, the puppies love to spend their morning playing outside with their toys as they zoom around. They then take a long nap in a cuddle pile until they are ready to play again. After lunch, they spend some time napping in their pen while their foster parents work. When everyone comes home, they head right back outside for more playtime. They LOVE the backyard. They have dinner at 6 PM followed by romping and playtime in the kitchen. They spend the evening snuggling on the couch watching TV and getting kisses until they go to bed at 10 PM.  The puppies live with a large breed dog and a cat and do well with all animals. They will need continued socialization and training to ensure they are confident and curious adults. They are quintessential puppies in that they are playful when awake and loungey when ready for naps. They would love a yard and a companion in their new home but could thrive in any environment as long as they have love and affirmation! The Pasta puppies promise to provide a culinary adventure for the homes that adopt them!    Interested homes must have owned a dog in the last 5 years. We will be prioritizing homes who currently own dogs. Kids in the home should be over the age of 8.May 2, 2024, 7:50 pm

Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption Fee: $600   Gatsby is a 1 year old Shiba Inu x Corgi mix who is looking for his Daisy! Could you be his next party co host? Gatsby came to us from the shores of New York’s highest class (ok we admit he came from the shelter) but he’s ready to start his new fabulous life with you! Gatsby is full of curiosity, sass, and smiles which he uses to brighten any room he enters. This handsome boy can’t wait to meet and charm you.     Gatsby is the world’s most playful, happy, and loving dog. He loves affection almost as much as he loves toys and just about everything else. Gatsby doesn’t have a shy bone in his body and takes to new environments with ease. He loves his people and he isn’t afraid to show it (Mama’s Boy)! He loves being wherever you are but he is also happy to keep himself occupied when need be. He has discovered a love of launching himself onto the toy bin, picking out the lucky toys of the day. He is very smart and food motivated as well, which will make training an endless fun adventure for his lucky forever home. Gatsby is the perfect size for every adventure. Hiking? He’s strapping on his backpack and sunglasses. Movie night? He’s cuddling up with some paw-p corn. Beach day? He’s got his tanning lotion! Gatsby wants to do it all with his forever people.  Gatsby starts his day at 7 AM with a morning walk before breakfast. He loves his food so he polishes it off quickly before settling down as his foster people get ready for the day. He gets a few short walks during the day to get his zoomies out and for the bathroom. During the workday, Gatsby occupies himself as CEO of “Testing Toys INC” and keeps himself occupied with plush toys and ropes alike. He gets a long walk after the workday is over and then has dinner. After dinner, he soaks up cuddles and kisses on the couch as he watches TV or “helps” play video games. It’s a hard life but someone’s gotta do it! After one last trip outside, Gatsby goes into his crate for the night and dreams of adventures ahead.  Gatsby has lived with dogs of all ages and sizes and gets along fabulously with all of them. He is respectful to cats as long as they know how to stand up for themselves. He adores walks and happily greets his canine neighbors as he romps around the block. Gatsby is the perfect dog for any home ready for a loving companion (or as a sibling to a resident dog). Gatsby will make you fall in love from the first moment you meet him!    Gatsby is an option for just about any home, regardless of prior dog owning experience. He could be a fantastic option for a home looking for that perfect first-time dog. Kids in the home should be over the age of 7.May 2, 2024, 7:50 pm
