******Please note, once completing the initial screen you will be connected with the placement for a video chat. Transports run every few weeks and we will have the dog on the next available transport once approved. If you are not able to accept a dog until a specific time period, please apply at that time************ We are a volunteer run rescue and donate our time to these dogs. IF you are not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog. Florence (Flora), 3 years old, spayed female, Carolina Dog mix, 46 pounds. She is in a foster home in HOUSTON, TEXAS and can transport out of State once an adopter is approved. Florence, affectionately nicknamed, Flora, Flory, Lory, or Sweetpea, is a playful and energetic dog who loves to wrestle and be chased. She would do best in a home with dogs of similar size and energy level. When playing, Flora could play for hours. She loves to interact with another dog in the home, Furman by licking his face. Flora has experience playing with dogs ranging from a 35-pound Cocker Spaniel to a 60-pound Pyrenees mix. Flora requires slow and guided introductions to other dogs. She has shown some leash reactivity, exhibiting behaviors like raised hair, whimpering and barking. Her foster parents have worked with her on this behavior. It did take her some time to befriend the resident pup, and Flora may do best as the one and only in the home. Flora’s compatibility with cats is unknown. She adores the 8-year-old child in the home, but is nervous of new children. Flora does have stranger danger when new people come into the home, and tends to bark at them, especially when they move around quickly. Because of her fear, she may prefer an adult household at this time. As mentioned, Flora has some leash reactivity and gets easily spooked, often pulling a lot. However, she has made progress with positive reinforcement and minimal stimuli. She walks much better in calm environments with less activity. She will need consistent training to help her with her leash skills and feeling safe around new dogs and stimuli. Flora is fully housebroken. She has demonstrated some anxiety in the crate at home. When her foster parents have gone out of town she has gone to boarding where she is crated with no issues. At home, she is able to be out of a crate and unsupervised with zero issues. She is fed separately from the other dogs in the home. Otherwise, she shares her toys well and has no issues with people and food, although she needs reminders to take treats gently. Flora has high energy needs and requires dedicated outdoor playtimes to do well inside the home. She thrives in a moderately active home with regular outdoor play sessions. She loves playing with the resident dog, bucking around the yard, eating, going for walks, sunbathing, and birdwatching. She is a total love bug and enjoys snuggling. She does well in the car but is terrified of storms, often seeking shelter in a closet or burying her head in a lap. Flora’s ideal home would be with someone who is often around, enjoys walks or jogs, and will play fetch with her. A home with no other pets or a well balanced dog of similar age, size, and energy level would be ideal. Flora needs an owner who will continue positive reinforcement to help with her anxiety. Flora is very smart, loves learning new tricks, and is very submissive and affectionate. She may be a work in progress, but will reward you with love and companionship for years to come! ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. We rarely know a dog's exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time. *** Interested in applying to adopt her? Story
Please meet Luna! She shines bright like the moon and that’s how she earned her name. Luna is a 1 year old, 45 lbs, female, Carolina Dog (mix?). She is playful, eager to please, and a total smarty pants! In her short time in foster, she’s learned about crate training, doggie doors and even some commands. Luna loves to wrestle and zoomie with other similarly sized (and paced) dogs. She’d thrive in a home with active humans and canine friends with a large, fenced in yard (5-6’ privacy please). She has a calm and loyal nature and is also quite affectionate towards her humans. Luna had not lived with young kiddos, but we don’t think she’d have a problem as long as the kiddos are dog savvy. Luna is in foster in Texas and her foster mom drives back and forth to Colorado every couple of weeks. She’s happy to arrange a meet-up and do virtual meetings. Luna is being fostered in Denver, Colorado. *We require all adopters to come to Colorado to adopt. *We do not transport dogs.* You can view this wonderful dog at https://www.milehighcanine.org/post/dogs/luna-2/. Story
Background and History Abby is an almost 4-year-old mixed-breed dog rescued from an Indian Reservation in New Mexico. She arrived at the Rescue in early January 2022 and was adopted shortly thereafter. Abby was returned to the Rescue in October 2023 when her owner became homeless, along with Eevee, her bff.  Abby has been living with Eevee, another dog adopted from the rescue in 2021. Abby and Eevee were adopted in 2023 and then brought back in 2025 due to medical issues in the family. Abby and Eevee are bonded, and it is preferred that they be adopted together; however, it is acknowledged that this may be a significant consideration for potential adopters. Abby loves to play ball and will make a great addition to an active family. Behavioral and Training Profile Abby is trained to be housebroken, crate trained, and comfortable using a doggie door. She generally gets along well with most dogs but tends to play a bit rough. Abby has experience living in a household with children and appears to be good with them. Though initially shy upon meeting new people, Abby warms up over time and shows a friendly nature once comfortable. Health and Medical Status Abby is spayed, which ensures she will not contribute to unwanted litters. She is microchipped, enabling easy identification and reunification if lost. Her vaccinations and medical care are current, confirming her good health condition. Adoption Recommendations and Considerations Due to Abby’s bond with Eevee, adoption as a pair is preferred to minimize stress and maintain their companionship. Prospective adopters should be comfortable managing a dog with an energetic play style and initial shyness. Homes with children are suitable, given Abby’s positive history with kids. A stable and patient home environment will support Abby’s adjustment and allow her to thrive. Please fill out an application at www.fureverdogdenver.com. If you would like more information or to meet her, please call 720 588-6809. ##1673652##

Story
Sam needs an owner that will spend a lot of time with him and would also do well with another dog as a companion. Small children overwhelm him but he does well with older children that know how to interact with animals. He loves walks and enjoys being outside so a backyard is ideal. I am moving out of the country and can not take him with me. I would love to see him go to a dog lover and live out the rest of his years enjoying his life.

Story
9/8/25: Emma has spent over four years, most of her life, in the shelter and foster homes. She deserves to have a person, or people, to see what we see in her and give her what she has always deserved... a furever home. Emma loves water! She would be the best adventure buddy!6 years old Carolina dog mix60 poundsWould benefit from an active lifestyle Great with people Emma spent 627 days in a shelter in Texas. She was euth listed due to no adoption interest. We were asked to help Emma. After saving her from euthanasia she has spent over a year in a foster home totaling her days looking for a home to 995. Emma deserves to know what love is, she needs a home with no other pets and no young children. We saved Emma becuase she adores people and she has a will to live. We knew finding her a home would take longer but spending her entire life in foster is not what we want for Emma. Emma has made the journey up from San Antonio, Texas and is being fostered in Denver, available to meet! Red Fern Animal Rescue offers a two week foster to adopt trial in your home before finalizing the adoption to ensure the animal is the right fit for you, everyone in the home, human & animal, and vice versa. Red Fern Animal Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit foster-based animal rescue in Denver that saves animals from abandonment and neglect in South Texas for new lives in Colorado. We primarily rescue dogs off the streets and from kill shelters in San Antonio. ##2151820##
