Story
Hi, I’m Lexi! I’m looking for someone special to give me a home; someone who has a little extra patience and understanding and who will love me while I adapt to a new environment. I didn’t get socialized in my early years and I developed a fear of people other than those I knew to trust. My foster parents and I worked very hard with trainers the first six months I was with SDRO and I am making incredible progress. And I’m happier! I bond quickly with my primary people and am working on welcoming others into my circle. We’ve learned great tips for meeting new people and giving me breaks if I seem overwhelmed. I’m also muzzle trained if unfamiliar people need to get close. If you decide to open your home to me, SDRO will provide some training sessions to help us all settle in comfortably. Aside from that, I am smart, treat-motivated and super attentive. I enjoy learning new things, playing enrichment games and doing food puzzles. But I don’t have to be active all the time. I love a good belly rub and take plenty of naps. Walks and car rides are fun too! My current people often work from home, and I feel more secure when I know where they are. I can spend a half day alone, no problem, and I’ll wait patiently by the door so I can give them a big happy hello when they get home. I haven’t lived with children. I bet I’d like older kids who learn to speak dog language, but younger kids may be too unpredictable for me. We haven’t brought other dogs or cats into our circle, but I’m learning to live with them in my neighborhood. Who knows? In time I might warm up to a few, but I think I’d rather be the only pet in my home, at least for now. I’m making more friends all the time and am looking forward to finding my forever home. We'll want to meet a few times to find out if we're a good fit. I'm ready to try--how about you?

My name is Xavi.I'm a 4 1/2 year old neutered Africanis Breed.My foster Mom rescued me after I was hit by a truck in front of her house in April. I had a successful hip surgery and I'm all back to normal and looking for my forever home.I love to run and play! If you throw the ball for me I'll bring it back to you.I'm not possessive of my food, I won't attack the vacuum cleaner or broom.Thunder and fireworks don't bother me. I'm walking great on a leash and do great walking near heavy traffic. If a semi truck gets close I don't like that, but otherwise I'm great with noises. I'm practicing being non reactive on the leash. I love all humans but can be a little uncertain of other dogs. Mom thinks I'm a back of the pack dog, so I feel I need to protect myself. I did show a bit of aggressive behavior with another dog, but he came into my space and I felt I needed to protect myself and family. I do get along great with my pit bull cousin- we can play for hours! I need patience & trust

He is neutered, microchipped, current on vaccinations including rabies, dewormed, flea treated, potty trained, and kennel trained.Koda is affectionate, goofy, food-motivated, people-oriented, and LOVES water! He is still a young, energetic dog who needs continued training, structure, exercise, and consistency. When excited, he can be mouthy and may nibble hands, arms, or clothing. He has never intentionally tried to hurt anyone, but this behavior needs continued training.Koda enjoys playing with compatible dogs but is not compatible with his current dog brother, so a carefully matched dog or being the only dog may be best. He is NOT suitable for a home with cats because he will chase them.
