Story
Hi, I'm Kota! Ready for My Next Big Adventure?🐾Hey there! For 3 years, I’ve lived a good life after being adopted from Ark Pet Rescue. I’m a great childhood playmate, professional squirrel patrol, and king of "keep-away." Sadly, my family is moving to a place that doesn't allow dogs, so I need a new family to be part of.Why you’ll love me: • Kid-Friendly: I love kids! I have a proven track record of being fun and caring around children. • Playful: I love to zoom around the yard and make you laugh. Playing keep-away or tug-of-war is my absolute favorite activity. • Watchdog: I take safety seriously and will bark at passing dogs or strangers. Don't worry—I just have a big voice! Once guests come inside, I just need a few minutes to sniff, then I'm calm and ready for belly rubs.I’m looking for a home where I can stretch my legs, play, and give you a lifetime of loyalty. Could that be with you?

******Please note, once completing the initial screen you will be connected with the placement for a video chat. Transports run every few weeks and we will have the dog on the next available transport once approved. If you are not able to accept a dog until a specific time period, please apply at that time************ We are a volunteer run rescue and donate our time to these dogs. IF you are not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog. Florence (Flora), 3 years old, spayed female, Carolina Dog mix, 46 pounds. She is in a foster home in HOUSTON, TEXAS and can transport out of State once an adopter is approved. Florence, affectionately nicknamed, Flora, Flory, Lory, or Sweetpea, is a playful and energetic dog who loves to wrestle and be chased. She would do best in a home with dogs of similar size and energy level. When playing, Flora could play for hours. She loves to interact with another dog in the home, Furman by licking his face. Flora has experience playing with dogs ranging from a 35-pound Cocker Spaniel to a 60-pound Pyrenees mix. Flora requires slow and guided introductions to other dogs. She has shown some leash reactivity, exhibiting behaviors like raised hair, whimpering and barking. Her foster parents have worked with her on this behavior. It did take her some time to befriend the resident pup, and Flora may do best as the one and only in the home. Flora’s compatibility with cats is unknown. She adores the 8-year-old child in the home, but is nervous of new children. Flora does have stranger danger when new people come into the home, and tends to bark at them, especially when they move around quickly. Because of her fear, she may prefer an adult household at this time. As mentioned, Flora has some leash reactivity and gets easily spooked, often pulling a lot. However, she has made progress with positive reinforcement and minimal stimuli. She walks much better in calm environments with less activity. She will need consistent training to help her with her leash skills and feeling safe around new dogs and stimuli. Flora is fully housebroken. She has demonstrated some anxiety in the crate at home. When her foster parents have gone out of town she has gone to boarding where she is crated with no issues. At home, she is able to be out of a crate and unsupervised with zero issues. She is fed separately from the other dogs in the home. Otherwise, she shares her toys well and has no issues with people and food, although she needs reminders to take treats gently. Flora has high energy needs and requires dedicated outdoor playtimes to do well inside the home. She thrives in a moderately active home with regular outdoor play sessions. She loves playing with the resident dog, bucking around the yard, eating, going for walks, sunbathing, and birdwatching. She is a total love bug and enjoys snuggling. She does well in the car but is terrified of storms, often seeking shelter in a closet or burying her head in a lap. Flora’s ideal home would be with someone who is often around, enjoys walks or jogs, and will play fetch with her. A home with no other pets or a well balanced dog of similar age, size, and energy level would be ideal. Flora needs an owner who will continue positive reinforcement to help with her anxiety. Flora is very smart, loves learning new tricks, and is very submissive and affectionate. She may be a work in progress, but will reward you with love and companionship for years to come! ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. We rarely know a dog's exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time. *** Interested in applying to adopt her? Story
Meet Ana Female DOB: May 15, 2024 Weight: 35 lbs Breed: Carolina Dog / Jack Russell Terrier Mix Spayed (Fixed) Vaccinated Microchipped Healthy & Adoption-Ready Personality, Breed Info & Expectations Ana is a relaxed, friendly girl with a gentle personality and an easygoing nature that makes people feel comfortable around her right away. She enjoys companionship and being around her people but carries herself with a calm energy that makes her a wonderful everyday companion. She has beautifully matured beyond the young puppy stage while still keeping a warm, social personality. Ana enjoys attention, affection, and simply being included as part of family life. She is the kind of dog who is happy joining you for walks, relaxing nearby, or quietly spending time with her humans. As a Carolina Dog / Jack Russell Terrier mix, Ana may show traits such as intelligence, awareness, loyalty, and curiosity. Carolina Dogs are often known for being adaptable and observant, while Jack Russell Terrier traits can bring playful intelligence and engagement. Ana seems to carry a softer, calmer balance of both. Ana would thrive in a home that can provide: Companionship and inclusion Routine and stability Daily walks and interaction Gentle guidance and continued engagement She has a sweet, approachable personality and would make a wonderful companion for someone looking for a friendly, balanced dog. Training, Adjustment & What to Expect Many rescue dogs come from very different backgrounds. Some may have previously lived in homes, while others may have come from the streets, overcrowded shelters, neglect situations, or environments where they had little structure or guidance. Because of this, most rescue dogs arrive with only basic training at best, and some may have had no formal training at all. Even dogs who appear well-behaved in foster care or at the rescue are still adjusting and learning. The rescue environment itself also does not always allow for extensive one-on-one training. While we work hard to provide safety, structure, socialization, and basic guidance, adopters should be prepared to continue training and support after adoption. Ana will benefit from: Positive reinforcement training Structure and routine Patience and consistency during adjustment Continued socialization and engagement Please remember the 3-3-3 Rule: 3 days to decompress 3 weeks to learn your routine 3 months to fully feel at home With patience, stability, and commitment, rescue dogs often blossom into loyal lifelong companions. Owner Responsibilities & Veterinary Care Owning a dog is a lifelong commitment that includes daily exercise, companionship, routine veterinary care, training, mental stimulation, and financial responsibility. Ana will need: Daily walks and interaction Continued training and guidance Routine wellness exams and preventative veterinary care A safe, stable, indoor living environment Consistent veterinary care, proper nutrition, preventative care, and emotional stability are all essential to helping her live a healthy and happy life. Ana is an indoor family dog and is not to be chained or left outside.
