Slinky has a pronounced case of cerebellar hypoplasia (CH). CH is a neurological condition that happens before birth when the cerebellum—the part of the brain responsible for balance and coordination—doesn’t fully develop. The important thing to know is that CH is not painful, not contagious, and it does not get worse over time. It’s simply the way Slinky was born.
Because of her CH, Slinky is adorably wobbly. She may lose her balance, tumble over, or launch herself in unexpected directions when she’s excited. She has a dramatic “drunken sailor” walk and can look like she’s trying to dance instead of walk! She’ll always be a little uncoordinated, but she has learned how to navigate the world in her own unique way.
Her future family will want to provide a safe indoor environment with soft rugs, cozy beds, and protection from stairs or high places where she could fall. She’ll never be an Olympic gymnast—but she doesn’t let that slow her down one bit. She plays with toys, explores her surroundings, eats, uses her litter box, and enjoys life just like any other kitten, only with a little extra flair.
