Story
🐾Here’s Paisley, and it’s her time to shine!💖
Paisley entered rescue on March 1st as a 7+ year old ex-breeder Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. At her initial veterinary visit, it was noted that she was a bit overweight and there was suspicion that she was pregnant. Unfortunately, this was later confirmed, and plans were made to help her safely through her pregnancy.
On Easter Sunday, sweet Paisley delivered two very tiny stillborn puppies. We were all heartbroken, but our focus quickly returned to loving, supporting, and spoiling Paisley while waiting for the day she could safely be spayed.
That day finally arrived this week! Paisley sailed through both her spay and dental procedures and is recovering beautifully. She has even accepted her post-operative recovery suit with ease to protect her incision.
Paisley is a very sweet mill mama, and everyone who has cared for her has commented on her remarkable ability to adapt to life in a home. It’s almost as if she has lived in one before. She is the definition of a Velcro Cavalier and absolutely adores being close to her people. She follows her foster mom everywhere, naps beside her on the couch, joins her in every room of the house (yes, even the bathroom!), and sleeps on the big bed each night right by her side.
She craves attention and affection, although foster mom has noticed that she sometimes pulls away when being hugged. This is likely a response to negative experiences in her past. With patience, gentle handling, and positive interactions, she is learning that loving touch from someone she trusts is safe and comforting.
Paisley has a quirky preference when it comes to potty time. She much prefers doing her business in the securely fenced backyard, although she will venture into the front fenced area when accompanied by foster mom. House-training is still a work in progress and will need continued support and consistency in her forever home.
She has a healthy appetite and has thoroughly enjoyed her high-quality Fromm diet along with supplements tailored to the needs of an aging Cavalier. Foster mom is very knowledgeable about the breed and has helped introduce Paisley to a variety of healthy treats. She loves fresh fruit with breakfast, especially blueberries, strawberries, and the occasional banana. She is even learning to appreciate steamed vegetables! Paisley drinks well from a water bowl and enjoys crunching on crushed ice alongside the resident Cavalier pack while relaxing on the deck.
This week, Paisley surprised everyone by willingly walking on a harness and leash with some encouragement. Once she has fully healed from surgery, more walks and adventures will certainly be in her future.
Paisley is very dog-friendly and gets along well with both small and large dogs in her foster home. She is also cat-friendly and generally pays very little attention to feline companions.
Like many Cavaliers, Paisley is a professional couch potato. She loves taking frequent naps with the other Cavaliers and can often be found testing out the day’s most comfortable sleeping position—on her side, sprawled on her belly with her legs stretched behind her, or completely upside down with all four paws in the air. She is also known to generously provide herself as a comfy Cavalier pillow for one of the foster puppies.
Because she spent her life as a breeding dog, we strongly recommend a secure physical fenced yard where she can continue building confidence and safely enjoying her freedom. A calm, confident canine companion would also be beneficial in helping her transition smoothly into a new home. Respectful children should do well with Paisley, though very young children may be unfamiliar and a bit overwhelming, so proper introductions and supervision are important.
Paisley is fully vaccinated, spayed, vetted, and ready to begin her search for the forever home she has always deserved.
Could that home be yours?💝
