Since we are 100% foster-based rescue, only approved applications will be reviewed and/or contacted. We do not allow shipping & do not transport. You must live within 350 miles from Maryville, IL & able to drive there for a meet & greet. Maizie came from a past life of breeding. Thankfully, she is a love bug and is not timid like most are. At Maizie's vet intake appointment, the vet heard a heart. Because of this, we got her seen with the cardiology team at U of I. She was diagnosed with Myxomatous Mitral Valve Degeneration (MMVD) aka Leaky valve, which is common for the cavalier breed. With this condition, Maizie should be evaluated regularly for progression in heart disease by a cardiologist yearly for an echocardiogram and blood pressure and will eventually be put on medication. Your local vet is not the same as a cardiologist and they can not perform these tests so ensure you have or can drive to your nearest cardiologist before applying. Maizie is not very good on a leash yet. She might be receptive to it at a later date, once her family has developed a relationship with her. Knowing that she won't leash walk right now, we must insist on a physically secure fence for her, as she will need to immediately continue her outside potty routine. The only way to be successful with this is to have a secure contained area. Maizie is doing very good with her potty-training routine. Her foster mom has been very proud of her progress & says she is almost there! It is important to note that anytime there is a change in environment or schedule, you must give the dog a chance to be successful. A new routine that employs consistency & praise will help set them up for success. Maizie is a loyal friend. She quickly took up with her foster mom & is comfortable being around her during normal household activities. She is doing well with quiet well-behaved children, adults, men, women, & all her foster canine siblings. She is very much enjoying making friends. Visit Leiashope.org for adoption information. Ember is a 3 year old puppy mill survivor. She is the sweetest little lady that just wants to be with her person. She loves to be in her person's lap and sleep in bed with them each night. Ember gets along with other dogs and will play with them when she is taking a break from cuddles. When she is excited she will do zoomies around the house. Ember has a grade 4 heart murmur and needs monitored by a vet. She does not require meds at this time. Cavalier experience is preferred to know what to watch for and get her the treatment she needs if her heart ever becomes compromised. Ember's adoption fee is $375. She has been spayed, received a dental, microchipped, current on vaccines and on monthly flea and heart worm prevention. She is located in Troy, MO. Visit leiashope.org for details on adopting. Please visit leiashope.org for our adoption process. Located in Troy, MO Saved from death from a puppy mill! This little lady was very sick when she was rescued from a puppy mill. Weighing in at just 2 lbs she was hospitalized with pneumonia. She was and is a little fighter and made a recovery and got to go back to foster's home after about 5 days. She remained on antibiotics and received breathing treatments for an additional two weeks and finally she received the all clear to look for a family! Sunny is a true example of her name as she has a sunny and happy disposition. She loves to play and will fetch after toys. She has been separated from the other pups in the house but we are sure this little spitfire will have a blast with them once she is able (in another few days from this post). She came into rescue tiny and then with being sick she was slow to gain weight but she has more than made up for that now and has doubled in weight and now weighs about 5 lbs! Sunny does have a grade 2 heart murmur that she may or may not outgrow. This should be monitored by a vet. Sunny's adoption is $500. She is current on age appropriate vaccines and will need two more DAPP vaccines and rabies (at the expense of the adopter). She is microchipped and been dewormed. Due to her age she has not been spayed. A spay contract is required and will be covered by our vet if performed at our vet in Troy, Mo. Visit leiashope.org for next steps! PLEASE NOTE: We are a volunteer ran rescue with full time jobs. Please allow 7-10 days for application processing. All of our dogs are in foster homes and a meet and greet is done ONLY after an approved application. We do adopt out of the area. However, we do not ship or provide transportation. You must come to the location of the dog to meet and adopt. NO EXCEPTION. All family members and dogs must be present at the meet. Dogs are a commitment for THEIR lifetime. For puppies this could be 15 years. If YOU cannot commit to the lifetime of the DOG, please do not apply. Puppies under 9 months must go to a home where there is someone home frequently (works from home or a partner is home), can adequately socialize and train the puppy, and can keep up with puppy energy!
