Story
Winston has one of the most remarkable stories you’ll ever hear. This handsome four-year-old poodle-terrier mix spent at least a month living on his own near Silver Bell Lake — surviving on the kindness of fishermen and park visitors who couldn’t resist feeding him. He was too scared to let anyone get close, but too sweet to stay away, so he’d follow people around at a distance, just hoping for a little connection. It took traps, patience, and one very determined PACC volunteer before Winston finally let someone in.
And boy, are we glad he did. Winston has come an incredibly long way from his days as a little lake survivor. He is now a calm, loving, and gentle soul who lives for head scratches and will politely come ask you for one when he’s ready. His tongue hangs out just a little almost all the time — and yes, it’s exactly as adorable as it sounds. He’ll follow you from room to room, sleep peacefully through the night, and greet you with that sweet, quiet energy that just makes a house feel like home.
He enjoys the company of other dogs and takes his cues from them, though he’s more of a peaceful observer than a rough-and-tumble player. He’s recently discovered the joy of toys — and has developed a particular fondness for socks, which he collects with great pride and zero apology.
Winston does best with a harness on walks and is still working on his house training, but he’s smart and eager to please — with a consistent routine and a patient hand, he’s going to get there. He’s also recovering from a mild case of kennel cough and will be fully cleared soon.
Winston is looking for a home where someone is around most of the time — a calm, loving space where he can finally exhale and just be. He’s already been through so much.
