Story
Meet Delilah! She is a very smart 3 year old that is very loyal to her humans. She is completely friendly with strangers, gives lots of kisses, and adores anybody who will throw her ball. Fetch is her favorite thing ever, she drops the ball right at your feet when she wants it to be thrown, and lays down and waits. She also knows sit and is learning new tricks! She loves water so it would be great if she could find a pool or head to the beach. She’s a larger dog (around 90lbs) so we would recommend older kids only. She loves being around her humans and smelling all the new smells. She’s great in the car and is a good beach/hiking companion. Interested in adopting this pet? Story
Hi, I'm Noel Joy (Noel for short) and I'm a 7 year old lab mix (with pointer) and weigh 45 pounds. I was rescued by SCLRR from a shelter. The shelter said I'm a stray, but my foster moms think I had a home once because I know sit, stay, shake, and lay down. I'm also housebroken - but love it when you say 'go potty' because I know that means I get to go outside and sniff all the smells. I don't really like playing fetch, but I do like to explore the yard, do my business, and then come back inside to get more snuggles and cuddles. But I'll never say no to a walk! I'm learning to walk better on a leash, just a little patience and time, and I'll be a perfect angel. I'm a sweet, calm, affectionate girl and love to curl up in ball and be near my humans - and my brother St. Chris. We're a bonded pair. I'm not really sure if he's my actual brother, but I love him just the same. I'm a little calmer than my brother except when it comes to breakfast and dinner. See, I'm a little underweight so I love having regular meals now and looking forward to fattening up. Extra treats are appreciated - I'll take them gently and enjoy! And just like my brother, I don't counter surf, and I'm really respectful in the house - no chewing or destroying things. While I was at the shelter and was seen by the vet, they discovered some growths on my skin. It was cancer - hemangiosarcoma - but they removed them. Because my skin is so pink, I should wear baby sunscreen when I go adventure in the sun for a longer exposure. St. Chris and I are a bonded pair and must be adopted together - which means twice the love and affection from both of us !If you are interested in making this Lab part of your family, please contact your SCLRR family representative. If you have not yet applied with us, please submit an online application to adopt; an SCLRR volunteer will then contact you. Please note that your homecheck must be approved in order for you to be put in touch with the dog's foster home.

Story
AVAILABLE SOON, around end of February Barney Fife, is a handsome 9 yr old senior Lab with a beautiful bronze fur. He weighs about 82 lbs. He was found as a stray by a good Samaritan, who sought help from SCLRR, and drove Barney Fife to his foster home in Santa Barbara several weeks ago. We don't have any information about his history. However, his body and temperament tells the story of a dog who likely lived outdoors most of his life, yet was loved enough that he enjoys and is relaxed around all people- craving affection and responding to basic commands. He even knows how to 'shake hands'! Since coming into foster shortly after the new year, Barney Fife has settled into living in a nice warm condo with his foster sister, a female lab named Lucy. Barney's neuter was delayed several weeks so that we could treat his skin with frequent medicated baths, which will allow several growths to be removed when he is neutered. His rough skin tells the tale of a dog who spent most of his life outdoors. The vet at Humane Society was pleased to see Barney respond so positively to frequent medicated bath treatment. Barney Fife loves everyone he meets, male or female, young, old, and just wants to be loved. Once he settled into a routine, he has adapted to living in a relatively small home without having any 'accidents', and never barks or growls. Barney Fife had obviously never been walked on leash, and due to his size and strength, he will need at least one family member who is physically able to work with Barney on continuing to work on his leash skills. He wants to run and explore, so having regular access to a yard would be a big plus. He absolutely loves to ride in the car, and is well behaved while waiting if you run an errand or two. Barney Fife does fine being alone in the house for a few hours, usually just goes right to sleep. As a tall dog, 'the Lab in him' keeps an eye on nearby counters and tables, so food needs to be out of reach. He gets along well with his female foster sister, though the first few days he did show 'interest' in her, not surprising given he had not been neutered, AND Lucy is quite the looker. But he left her alone when she conveyed zero interest, and has never shown any aggression towards her. When on leash, he has shown some 'prey drive' when he has noticed birds, or cats, from a distance. So, a home with at least one seasoned 'big dog' person, lots of love, another dog especially if a female, would be nice, but he is also just fine being the only dog. As mentioned, he would love a yard of his own, just to sniff around, lay on the grass and play with the tennis ball. If you are interested in making this Lab part of your family, please contact your SCLRR family representative. If you have not yet applied with us, please submit an online application to adopt; an SCLRR volunteer will then contact you. Please note that your homecheck must be approved in order for you to be put in touch with the dog's foster home.

Story
Meet Baxxter. He is a handsome boy that found himself into a bad situation at a high kill shelter. He was assessed there to be 5 years old; our vet however thinks he is closer to 2-3 years old. He is still very lean at 60lbs. He wants to run and fetch at the park (or any other activity). He is very social with dogs and people, excellent in the car and uses the doggy door like a champ. He would be OK with very dog savvy cats or no cats for him. Baxxter came to us with untreated allergies in his ears and especially on his belly and he lost a lot of hair. His belly skin is black because of old allergies. With regular medicated baths, his hair is growing back slowly. He was lucky to have a couple of private training classes. Baxxter is much better on the leash but will pull heavily is he sees another dog. A strong owner would work best for him. He requires a good amount of running regularly, he learned and loves to fetch. He is a very sweet cuddler, gives kisses and loves the couch and your bed! He would do best with an active family, older children and ideally with another dog. If you are interested in Baxxter, please contact your Family Rep or apply on our website.
