Chesapeake Bay Retriever

Male, 1 yr 5 mos
Burlington, NC
(when grown) Small 25 lbs (11 kg) or less
Spayed or Neutered,
Dog Day Out, 5/18/24:We took Hulk for walks, coffee run, and the farmers market!Volunteer notes, 5/2/24:Hulk and I have spent quite a bit of time together now and I can`t believe he`s still in the shelter. He is such a playful, thoughtful, trustworthy boy every time I take him out, whether it`s on the leash or in the play yard. Each time we play together, he becomes more trusting. This time he let me sit next to him and hug him. I got a wonderful sloppy kiss in return! He seems to be a very clean dog who always keeps his white paws spotless. He does well with my husband but I get the sense he`s a ladies` man at heart. The name `Hulk` might make him sound big and imposing but he`s really on the small side for a large dog and so very gentle. This charmer deserves a loving home!Dog Day Out notes, 4/29/24:Hulk is the sweetest and most affectionest baby. He wouldn`t get in the car so I had to lift him into the back seat, immediately he jumped into the front and wanted to lay in my lap or lean against me. He had no problem getting out of the car and was very excited to enjoy our day together. We walked Lake Michael and he did great on the leash with minimal pulling. He loves to smell, so we did a lot of sniffing and a lot less walking which was fine. We enjoyed our surroundings, meeting dogs and people as we walked along. We also went to Great Bend Park and enjoyed walking and the waterfall. We even got chance to get our paws wet! Hulk is such a sweet dog, not a sound out of him, just lots of tail wags and smiles. Volunteer notes, 4/24/24:There are so many nice dogs at the shelter but Hulk just might be my favorite. I can`t possibly visit without taking him out for some playtime. He is truly an all-around excellent dog. He is playful yet calm, energetic yet attentive, and immediately people-friendly without requiring any special handling. We walked him on leash today and after some initial hesitation at the front door, he did beautifully--no pulling at all. He has such a sweet face and waits so patiently to be taken out; I can`t understand how someone hasn`t scooped him up yet.Volunteer notes, 4/18/24:We loved spending time with Hulk in the play yard today! He was calm and well-behaved on the leash. He was interested in the dogs around him but able to be redirected. He knew `sit` and took treats gently but wasn`t overly treat motivated. He was active and playful but also laid down for lots of pets. Such a nice

Labrador Retriever American Pit Bull Terrier

Female, 1 yr 3 mos
Greensboro, NC
(when grown) Med. 26-60 lbs (12-27 kg)
Spayed or Neutered,
Everyone admires Diamond's beauty, but she chooses toys before boys, and she'll race to snag them-but not as fast as she'll steal your heart with her sweet face and waggly tail. She used to be shy but now she shines like the diamond she has always been. Diamond recently went on a Dog Day Out and here's what her DDO buddy had to say! "Diamonds are a girl's best friend! Or a guy's! Really, she just wants a best friend! Diamond is a gorgeous, one year old lab/terrier mix. This is your Ride or Die girl! She's down for walking around Guilford College campus or park, running, playing, driving around, shopping for plants, meandering downtown, or just hanging out at a coffee shop! We did all of these things today and she loved it all! Diamond likes toys and treats, but she is particularly motivated by affection which she loves to give and receive! Everyone we met fell in love with her; the staff at Awoo Coffee couldn't get enough of her! We saw golf carts blasting music, lawn mowers, passing dogs, and squirrels and she didn't react to any of them! She DID react to her pup cup with a hearty Two Paws Up! Diamond does need a little work on her manners as far as jumping up for kisses, treats, and toys, but with time and patience she could be trained easily! For now, though, young kids could probably be knocked down pretty easily. She had zero accidents today and her kennel was super clean; I'd say she's house trained! Diamond walks nicely on a leash after getting the initial pent up energy out. Her tail wagged so hard all day she was whacking her own shoulders! We hung out in the adoption room today, but it was pretty slow. She was content to roll around and play tug. She did do what I *think* was a play growl when another dog came in, so slow introductions to resident animals are best. She was redirected quickly and easily." Diamond is listed as No Small Children because she is a young, bouncy girl who could easily knock a small child over. As always, we strongly recommend bringing any resident dogs to the shelter for a meet and greet with potential new family members to be sure it's a good match. If bringing a dog for a meet and greet, please bring proof of up to date rabies, bordetella, and DHPP vaccines. To meet your future pet, come to Guilford County Animal Services between 12 and 4 any day except Tuesday!
