Story
Puppies are magnificent! I am cute, rambunctious, lively and fun. I have so much to learn, discover and explore - just a tiny sponge who is ready to absorb everything you have to teach me and show me. I am counting on you to help me safely navigate the world and experience new things each day to allow me to grow into a confident young dog. That isn't as exotic and daunting a task as it might sound. Each day I just need to be introduced to one new thing like the sound of a vacuum, a blender or a door bell, walking up and down a step, a ride in a car, hearing a motorcycle or a truck, going somewhere to see new people, even maneuvering a fallen log on a walk. You get the idea, so many things that seem common to you are completely new to me. Speaking of growing, I may be tiny now but I do plan on getting bigger so I would love to take obedience classes to learn proper manners and social skills. I also know I have to practice something called house-training so I know proper potty behavior. A routine and lots of yummy treats and praise will go a long way to helping me master house-training when I potty outside. Puppies and dogs need love, exercise, mental stimulation and consistency to be healthy, happy and confident. I am typically very open to all sorts of housemates; I can be a bit mischievous and may find any other critter as a potential playmate so they will need to understand that about me. I often explore the world with my mouth and while I am teething I like to chew; my little puppy teeth are very sharp so if I am around children we should always be supervised. It is important that children learn about respecting me, too, and treat me gently because I am fragile. Raising a puppy is a big responsibility, a lot of work, and it may interrupt your sleep cycle for a bit, but a courteous and well-behaved dog is certainly worth the investment and I promise to be loyal, love you unconditionally and be a companion forever. I just know I will bring joy and laughter into your home and cannot wait to meet you. Let the adventures begin!

Story
Hi there, my name is Chevy and I am a big hunk o' loving. Through no fault of my own, I have already had a couple of homes. In my first home I lived with a couple of kitties and was friendly to them, although I sometimes had to bark at the felines to try and communicate. I lived in my last home for about a year and was very content. I was a bit large for them and was putting a strain on their budget so they brought me to WCHS to find a new family. Truth be told, I do need to lose a pound or two; I currently tip the scale at 120 pounds. I will always be a big boy, but my fondness for food seems to have gone to my waistline. I am hoping for an active family who will provide plenty of exercise and help me shed some weight; it would be healthier for me too. I am a strong and strapping young lad and I pull quite a bit on a leash; for everyone's sake perhaps we should practice polite leash walking. I could also polish my manners because I sometimes get so excited I jump up on people. Maybe we could take an obedience class together or help me burn some energy by participating in agility or dog parkour. I do like to play and will chase toys; tennis balls don't seem too interesting but chasing a Hol-Ee Roller ball is a hoot and fun to carry. In my previous home I would play with some of the neighborhood dogs and have been keeping busy at the shelter by participating in the pooch play groups. My pals do need to understand that I am a rough player. Speaking of ‘rough', I need to work on accepting treats more gently because I tend to be a bit grabby with rewards; it helps to slow me down with a closed fist before opening your hand and allowing me to have it. I know the cues for ‘sit', ‘down' and ‘shake/paw' so I can demonstrate those and practice accepting tasty tidbits politely. In my previous home I lived with a whole pile of kids, ages 2 to 11 years old and that was fabulous; I did great with the kiddos. Since I am a big boy who can be rambunctious, it is always wise to supervise me around tiny tykes. Although I am comfortable in a crate, in my previous home I spent time in a room when I was alone so I did not have to manage the whole house by myself. To tell my people that I needed to go outside to use the facilities, I would go to the door and bark or whine. On my match-maker profile I would have to say my ‘likes' are car rides and my ‘dislikes' are being out in the rain. I do not mind a little drizzle but can certainly pass on a downpour; that is kind of funny since Labs are supposed to love water. I am an outgoing and sociable pooch who is happiest when I am around people. I may not be a purse-size pup, but I am adorable nonetheless. Stop by to meet me in person and discover my gigantic heart and personality for yourself.#2
