Gizzie is an 11–12-year-old Chihuahua who recently lost the only person she had ever known — her 90-year-old mom. When her mom passed away, Gizzie and her brother were suddenly left behind.  There were five adult children in the family… but not one of them stepped forward to take them.  Instead, the family discussed taking the two little dogs to a shelter to be euthanized. Thankfully, before that could happen, Rainbow Bridge Hospice Rescue stepped in. When Gizzie first arrived, she was clearly miserable. Quiet. Uncomfortable. Not herself at all. The reason soon became clear — seven of her teeth were completely rotten and causing her constant pain.  Once those painful teeth were removed, everything changed. It was like watching a whole new dog appear. Now Gizzie is happy, silly, and full of life again. She has the sweetest little personality and loves being near her people. Despite everything she has been through, she is incredibly gentle and easygoing. Gizzie is: Wonderful with other dogs Comfortable around cats Low-maintenance and easy to live with The perfect little companion for someone who appreciates a calm, loving senior After losing her mom and almost losing her life, Gizzie deserves something she hasn’t had in a while — a safe, loving forever home. Like her namesake, Snowflake is one of a kind. This sweet little girl has not been well-socialized and really struggles to interact appropriately with people. She is very playful and great with other dogs, especially other young playful dogs. Dogs that are rough or too big can be a little scary, but she accepts playful friends of most sizes! However, when it comes to people, Snowflake just does not know what to do with herself. She is friendly and loving, but has only learned to show her love by grabbing hands and pants with her teeth. For this reason, Snowflake is not recommended in a home with young children. She doesn't mean to hurt, but it is tough for her to learn anything new. She has also struggled to understand potty-training. She will use pee pads and go outside, but will also have accidents on blankets and cushions. Snowflake is about 8 lbs, spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and ready for her new home. She may have hydrocephalus, but has shown no signs of neurological issues (other than being a little slow to learn new things). It is recommended that she have regular vet visits and her new owners keep a close eye for any issues. Snowflake would be happiest in a home with other dogs.
