One day he had a person, a routine, and a place where he belonged… and the next, he was here. He didn’t do anything wrong. His world just disappeared.Even now, Jax still has so much life in him. He’s surprisingly energetic for his age, a little spunky, a little quirky, and full of personality. He seems to enjoy other dogs and does well with kids, and you can tell he wants connection — he just doesn’t know how to ask for it yet.Jax also tested positive for heartworm, but the good news is he’s almost finished with treatment. He’s been so brave through it all, quietly enduring vet visits and rest when he didn’t understand why his life had changed so drastically.Older dogs like Jax are often overlooked. They wait longer. They watch people walk past. But Jax isn’t done living or loving. Butch was so frightened when arriving to us, but who wouldnt have been. Picked up as a stray with his buddy, Billy. Taken to the shelter where he was minutes from losing his life. Then transported across the country with lots of other barking and frightened pups. It’s been a whirlwind of stressful events. But even so, Butch began to relax slightly after a few days and after a week he allowed us to touch him. It just takes a little time and patience. Billy warms up a lot faster, but with time these two will be a delightful addition to any family. We are looking for someone with the time and patience to bring the best out in this sweet boy who Wants so badly to trust and believe there is good that exists in this scary world. At not quite three weeks we are now receiving kisses from Butch. Both boys are vaccinated, neutered, flea and tick treated and microchipped. Billy is a very sweet but shy boy who barely escaped death with his buddy Butch. They were already in the euth room in a shelter in Texas, but fortunately we were able to pull them just in time. Billy and Butch were roaming the streets with a few other dogs when they were picked up by ACS. It has been a rough start to life for these two, but we are hoping they will find a wonderful family to show them that life can be good and not all humans are bad or scary. They are definitely bonded and must be kept together. Billy adjusted pretty quickly, but little Butch is frightened and less trusting and will take a little longer to warm up. Hi! My name is Mela and I'm a female beagle/chihuahua mix weighing in at 11 pounds.  I'm around 9 years old, and I love to walk, smell the ground, and wag my tail. I love everyone I meet and if you're my person, I would love to snuggle next to you as much as you allow. Otherwise, give me a soft dog bed and I'm happy! My perfect person would be someone home a great deal and loves to have me snuggle next to you! I'm very curious and like to watch everything you do! I get along great with my doggy brothers and sisters and I think I'd get along with cats, if I ever meet one! However, I'd love to be your one and only and get all your attention! I have a few mobility issues, but they mainly keep me from jumping up on things or from just standing for long periods of time. I can handle steps well, can run, and jump down from a couch! My doctor found a mass on my spleen, so I had surgery to have it removed! It was benign, so I'm doing really well! I didn't have a very good dental plan at my last place, so I'm missing quite a few teeth, but I'm still able to eat dry kibble and treats, so all good! I can sleep very nicely in my crate at night, although I wouldn't be sad if you let me stay on your bed! I'm doing really well with my potty training as long as you are paying attention to me! I'd be so grateful to find someone to love me that I will love back a thousand fold.  Is that YOU!?
