Story
Meet Izzi, a 3-year-old chihuahua with a big personality in a tiny package. She’s sweet, friendly, and has a great history with kids and people, making her a wonderful fit for a family looking for a small companion with lots of charm. According to her previous owner, Izzi gets along well with other dogs and is used to using pee pads, which can make her transition into a new home a little easier. She’s an affectionate girl who loves being near her people and soaking up gentle attention. And the best part? When Izzi wants love, she pops up on her back feet and does an adorable little dance to ask for it. If you’re looking for a cute, social, and heart-meltingly charming friend, Izzi is ready to wiggle her way into your home. Ready to Adopt? Story
Frosty visited NEVCCC for a bit before coming to TJO to finish healing; he was unable to control his body temperature and could only eat very small portions so as to not get sick. Frosty loves attention from humans, dislikes other dogs, and can be a loud persistent barker (so he probably would not do well in an apartment.) This little snowman is looking for a home where he can be the sole object of affection and attention.OTHER PETS: Frosty is reactive to other dogs, he'll bark and lunge to create distance from them, he will be adopted as an only pet. [Should be Only Pet]OWNER EXPERIENCE: Frosty's best fit would be with someone who understands and respects the necessity of ensuring his care plan is followed while he continues convalescing. Experience with positive reinforcement and a medically fragile dog would be ideal. [Some Experience]KIDS: Frosty is comfortable with handling, has not exhibited resource guarding while at TJO, and becomes playful in a safe environment. Frosty would likely get along with most humans and should meet any minor humans he would be living with prior to adoption. [10+ / Dog Savvy (Must Meet First)]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Frosty has been increasingly active as his health improves so may even end up having a higher energy level than we expected. He would do best with a combination of walks and play sessions that keep him engaged and active as he needs - regular exercise and plenty of mental enrichment such as food puzzles and games will help meet his needs. [Couch Potato / Good Walking Buddy]VETERINARY CARE: Frosty is currently on a strict re-feeding plan and may need further care as he continues to recover. He was also found to have corneal ulcers. Frosty's best match would be someone that already has an established relationship with a primary veterinarian. [Intensive]LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Frosty bond with his new owner as well as help him learn new skills and possibly some tricks. He may need extra patience as he begins his journey and slowly transitions to a new home. [Moderate] GROOMING: [Minimal] December 8, 2025, 3:15 pm

Story
Some dogs are naturally timid or shy, while others may not have learned to trust people while they were young. These dogs need to feel safe before they will interact with people; the work to build a relationship of trust could be a long and hard one but the experience can be one of the most rewarding of dog ownership. Chicken Little Dogs: are fearful of new people and places, take time to trust, shut down here at the shelter, and will bite if people push or try to interact too quickly. However, once they trust a person, the often become very bonded.OTHER PETS: Small Fry isn't interested in being best friends with other dogs. He's been more interested in sniffing and investigating his new environment, but is happy to hang close to his favorite people when he's feeling comfortable. He may do well with another relaxed, tolerant dog in the home. [Case-By-Case (Must Meet First)]OWNER EXPERIENCE: Small Fry is nervous and slow to warm up with new people, so he would likely do best with someone that has experience with helping nervous dogs adjust to new environments and positive reinforcement in order to avoid creating additional pressure and any unnecessary sense of conflict. [Some Experience]KIDS: Small Fry has been tolerant of handling and hasn't shown any signs of resource guarding while here at TJO. Since he's so wary of new people though, he will likely do best in a home without a lot of noise or foot traffic. Older kids who are able to understand how to interact with him and when to let him have his own space would be best. [15+ (Must Meet First)]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Small Fry is reluctant to walk on a leash but has been okay with being carried once he trusts someone. He's more than happy to curl up in a warm bed, but enjoys his leisurely walks around an enclosed yard when the weather is fair enough. A combination of regular exercise and plenty of mental enrichment such as food puzzles and games will help meet his needs. [Couch Potato]VETERINARY CARE: Small Fry is currently in need of a dental but otherwise seems to be in good health. [Routine]LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Small Fry is still at the beginning of his positive training journey, and will do best learning with someone who can offer patience while he adjusts. Positive reinforcement training will help Small Fry not only learn his basic cues, but also help him to feel more comfortable and confident in himself! It will provide a good opportunity for him to bond with his new owner as well. [Minimal]GROOMING: Due to his fur texture and length, Rico will need to be brushed routinely in order to prevent him from becoming matted. He may also do well with professional grooming appointments to help keep him clean and comfortable. [Routine Brushing]December 10, 2025, 9:52 am
