Story
Some dogs are naturally timid or shy, while others may not have learned to trust people while they were young. These dogs need to feel safe before they will interact with people; the work to build a relationship of trust could be a long and hard one but the experience can be one of the most rewarding of dog ownership. Chicken Little Dogs: are fearful of new people and places, take time to trust, shut down here at the shelter, and will bite if people push or try to interact too quickly. However, once they trust a person, they often become very bonded.OTHER PETS: Pancho met another dog with appropriate sniffs and signals, but became interested in other activities after the initial greeting. We believe Pancho would do best as an only dog, but he may be able to integrate slowly with a relaxed, well-socialzed dog. [Case by Case (Must Meet First)] OWNER EXPERIENCE: Experience with positive reinforcement or willingness to learn. Pancho's best fit would be with someone who who can appreciate the time needed for a nervous/shut down to decompress in a new environment and allow him to set the pace. Pancho communicates well with cues and body language, and like any dog will increase his signals if they go unnoticed. (Please view the the Resources tab on the website for information on body language). [Very Experienced] KIDS: High pitched noises, flailing hands, and sudden movements will scare Pancho; he is also scared by loud voices and unexpected touches, and will go stiff and give whale eye when being handled. A quiet, predictable home would help Pancho feel safe enough to begin settling in. [Adults Only]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Pancho has been initially anxious getting outside, but once he is sniffing the grass and walking around he enjoys doing his exploring the world around him. He may become more energetic once he begins to decompress and feels safe in his new environment. A combination of regular exercise combined with mental enrichment such as food puzzles, sniffing, and learning tricks, will help fully meet his needs. [Good Walking Buddy] VETERINARY CARE: Older dogs do best with bi-annual check ups but since Pancho is so uncomfortable with handling he may do best with medication, discussed with a vet, to help him relax. Chat with your vet to create a plan for vet visits.[Above Average] GROOMING: [Minimal]LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement will help Panco learn new skills and fun tricks while building confidence and strengthening the canine-human bond. Story
Hello! I was given Bear when he was just a puppy in 2021. He was born April 1st. He’s a nice boy, honestly he does get territorial and aggressive only when he is scared or provoked. I am looking for someone who has worked with dogs (in regards of house training and aggression training). He has never been around other dogs due to the fact that he was attacked by pit bulls and since then he is weary around other dogs. I do have a cat in which he tolerates, when he was a puppy he was also attacked by another outside cat. Disregarding the troubles he has gone through, I know with the right care he’ll be the best boy on the planet and I am truly just looking for a better home that I sadly could not give him. His last shots were in 2022 and he has not been microchipped or neutered because I cannot afford too. He loves to run around and he loves belly rubs once comfortable. I’m not looking for any fee and I don’t want to give him up to a shelter. I can wait however long until he’s safe!

We look forward to hearing from you. Sheridan is a low rider, slightly longer body, we think he’s chi mix, maybe some dachshund? Hes a sweet little fella, I’d say he’s the most laid back in the group, and he has the most amazing underbite, so cute!

Story
Born to be loved, hugged and cherished. There is no shortage of sweetness when it comes to this snack pack trio of 2-month-old Chihuahua mixed cuties. They are sure to be everything their forever family is looking for. A little bit of curiosity, fun and adventure is a day in the life of Dorito. He is starting off small of around 4.5 pounds and looking into the future, this boy is destined, (or rather our best guess) to remain a small size of anywhere under 25 pounds and perfect size for napping on a lap. Navigating through life has its challenges but if you have friends along the way, it makes life interesting. Dorito is a big fan of meeting and spending time with other dogs and children but has not had introductions to any cats. Frequent interactions with friends are a big part of what Dorito envisions for himself. Play and exploration are taken to the next level when he has a friend along with him. A day full of play, exploration and socializations are just what Dorito is looking for. There is sure to be adventures around every corner and Dorito will be first in line.Dorito is learning about the expectations of house, crate and leash skills. He is onboard at being a professional at each one and is willing to put in hard work and commitment to make his family proud of him.Every journey starts with a single step. When it comes to emotions, you do not always get a choice, and love can come crashing in to break down barriers. Excitement will mount and you will be overjoyed to have Dorito as your next family member. * When considering adoption, keep in mind that dogs thrive on structure and routine. They adjust much better when their owners are committed to providing consistency and stability. The adoption fee for Dorito is $600. That includes the cost of spaying/neutering, up to date vaccinations, foster care, rescue and transportation fees. To get the ball rolling, head over to our Adoption Application and submit your application today. A Dog Star representative will contact you within 24 hours. Story
PLEASE NOTE THAT CHARLEY AND MARLEY ARE BONDED AND MUST BE ADOPTED TOGETHER.Meet Marley, a gentle little soul with a heart that shines bright. This sweet, 11-year-old Chihuahua mix was surrendered through no fault of his own. Marley is incredibly affectionate and adores snuggling with his people. He would be perfectly content being carried around all day, soaking up every bit of attention and affection he can get.Marley was surrendered into rescue with his brother by another mother, Charley (also with DSR). These two are inseparable and bonded to each other in heart and spirit. Marley and Charley have shared their lives together and we are dedicated to seeing they remain together for the rest of their lives. Therefore, they will need to be adopted together in the comfort of a forever family who will open up the doors to welcoming two little senior canine companions into their home. Marley has a lovely tan-and-black short coat and big, soulful brown eyes. Fully grown at just 9 pounds, he is the perfect size for cuddling. He is good with other dogs and does well with children. He has not yet had the chance to meet cats in rescue, so his compatibility with them is still unknown. As a senior dog, Marley offers the kind of companionship that only comes with time. He is steady, gentle, and deeply loyal. He would be happiest soaking up the sunshine, resting in a warm lap, and sharing quiet moments with his person. All he wants is comfort, companionship, and a place where he can finally feel at home. He would be a wonderful match for anyone looking for a devoted companion who already knows how to be a great dog.Marley walks well on a leash, is housetrained and his crate training is in progress. While he may already be housetrained, it is important to remember that accidents can happen as he adjusts to a new home and routine. If you are ready to open your heart and home to this sweet little guy, be sure to apply today!* When considering adoption, keep in mind that dogs thrive on structure and routine. They adjust much better when their owners are committed to providing consistency and stability. The adoption fee for Marley & Charley together is $500. That includes the cost of spaying/neutering, up to date vaccinations, foster care, rescue and transportation fees.
