Story
Hi there, I’m Akira. I’m a beautiful 8-year-old Malamute-Husky mix with a soft heart and a whole lot of love to give. People call me a cuddle bug, and honestly, they’re not wrong. I’m ready to find a calm, loving home where I can finally feel like I belong. I’m fully housebroken and crate trained, but I don’t really need the crate—I’m very well-mannered and can be trusted when left alone. I love my humans and enjoy being around them, and I do great with medium to large dogs. I haven’t met many small dogs or cats, so I’m still not sure how I feel about them. I enjoy peace and quiet, especially for my naps, but I also love toys that make me think. Chew toys and puzzle toys are my favorites. I recently discovered squeaky toys, and now I can’t get enough of them. I toss them in the air and try to make them squeak—it’s the best. Walks are something I get really excited about. I’m still learning to walk nicely on a leash, and I do pull a bit at first, but I’m working hard to improve. I just love exploring new places, especially when there’s fresh air and new smells. I love laying next to my humans, but I’m still learning to be comfortable with cuddles when I’m on my bed. Sometimes I’ll growl to let you know I need space, but I’ve never bitten—I just like to communicate honestly. I’m also really smart. I’ve learned to let my foster family know when I need to go outside or come back in, and I picked up on that pretty quickly. I haven’t had accidents in the house, and I don’t chew on furniture. My foster family gives me a nice orthopedic bed with a sheet over it so I don’t get tempted to nibble. In my old home, I used to chew dog beds, but I’m doing much better now. Because of my thick double coat, I can get warm easily, so I’ll need a home that makes sure I always have water and a way to stay cool. I may be a bit older, but I have a young spirit and so much love left to give. If you’re looking for a calm, affectionate, and loyal companion who’s just as happy going on walks as she is napping nearby, I might be the one for you. I’m ready for a home to call my own.
