Story
Meet Pumpkin! 🐾😍 Pumpkin is a truly pretty girl with soft, soulful eyes and the sweetest little face. Petite at just 18 lbs, she’s the perfect small companion—easy to scoop up for cuddles and happy to be right by your side. Her gentle expression and dainty build make her impossible not to love. She is a very sweet pup who can be timid at first and needs a little time to feel comfortable, but she’s absolutely worth the patience. Pumpkin is smart, crate trained, and housebroken, and she does wonderfully with other dogs. She would thrive in a home with another canine friend to help her feel confident and secure. Pumpkin is spayed, fully vaccinated, and ready for her forever home. If you’re looking for a small, gentle girl with a tender heart and quiet charm, Pumpkin could be the perfect addition to your family ❤️

Story
Meet Tum Tum — a super low-maintenance smaller dog who is looking for a chauffeur/forever family to drive him around town and help write the next chapter of his life: “Driving Mr. Tummy.” While some dogs are fixated on their ball or their daily walk, Tum Tum’s all-consuming obsession is the car. He would sit in the passenger seat all day long if he could. Beyond his insatiable desire to be in the car, Tum Tum is truly the easiest dog ever.  Tum Tum is approximately 3 years old and the perfect small to medium size at just 33 lbs. He is a mix of 19 different breeds according to his breed test — an equal mix of small and large breeds. Chihuahua (15 percent) and Husky (14 percent) were the top two breeds. He’s potty trained, crate trained and not destructive. Tum Tum could sit outside by himself all day and be perfectly content. He’s independent and self-sufficient. He’s never had much and does not expect much. He enjoys sitting next to you and getting belly rubs, but he’s not a needy lap dog.  He gets along splendidly with other dogs, enjoys the company of children and is completely neutral around cats. He rarely barks and is calm and respectful on a leash, making him very easy to walk. Although Tum is a tripod, so short walks are more his speed. Tum broke his front leg as a younger dog. Sadly it was never properly fixed, and it recently had to be amputated. But he gets around great on three legs.  Tum Tum is looking for a home with a fenced yard so he can enjoy sitting outside. He doesn’t need a super active family, just someone who likes to take him on car rides occasionally. He would do great with a less active older person or even a young family who only has the bandwidth for the easiest of dogs. He would love accompanying the kids to school drop off. Any excuse for a car ride!  Please apply today if you can give Tum Tum his perfect forever home. Car rides are a must! Story
Meet Skipper! ❤️ Skipper is (estimated at 9 years young) an auburn chipper male. Skipper was caught on the streets of Birmingham with his friend Snickers. So, we honestly think they came from the same home. Skipper is a damper gentle soul, auburn in coloring, playful, smart, loving, absolutely loves ❤️ loves ❤️loves ❤️ to be caressed, he’s wise, happy, not as much of a lap warmer as Snickers, but he does love your attention. He has long graceful legs and is a whoot. 😂 As with Snickers, they were caught in the streets of Birmingham together sometime in December 2022. Both are both house trained with regular trips outside. A fenced backyard would be great and preferred! 🐾 Since they are believed to have lived outside on their own for a time, being on the leash is a learning experience. When they are together, if they see other fur babies they get really excited and like to bark. Which is probably, how they survived on their own for so long as a way to protect themselves being so small and older. Even though Skipper eventually warms up to new dogs, it takes a while, and he would probably be happiness as an only dog in his next home. Skipper is very much loved in his foster home. Thus, only the most perfect of home him will he grace. 🥰 If interested in adopting one of our available pets, please fill out an application at http://www.dixiegirldogrescue.org/adopt-form Most of our are pets are fostered in Southern foster homes and are posted for adoption once they are completely vetted and ready to travel. Story
Meet Cake! Cake is a sweet and loving Chihuahua mix looking for a new forever home. She was born around August 25, 2016, which makes her about 9 years old. She still has plenty of love to give and enjoys being close to her people. Cake has a gentle personality and is very affectionate. She is well trained overall and does best in a calm and patient environment. She can experience some anxiety at times, so she would thrive with an owner who can give her reassurance and a stable routine. She does have allergies, so regular grooming is important. She is currently groomed at least every two months to help keep her comfortable and healthy. She does extremely well with male dogs but not that great with dogs of the same gender. I’m posting her for my parents, as they will be moving sometime soon and they unfortunately can’t take her with them!
