Story
Meet Skipper! ❤️ Skipper is (estimated at 9 years young) an auburn chipper male. Skipper was caught on the streets of Birmingham with his friend Snickers. So, we honestly think they came from the same home. Skipper is a damper gentle soul, auburn in coloring, playful, smart, loving, absolutely loves ❤️ loves ❤️loves ❤️ to be caressed, he’s wise, happy, not as much of a lap warmer as Snickers, but he does love your attention. He has long graceful legs and is a whoot. 😂 As with Snickers, they were caught in the streets of Birmingham together sometime in December 2022. Both are both house trained with regular trips outside. A fenced backyard would be great and preferred! 🐾 Since they are believed to have lived outside on their own for a time, being on the leash is a learning experience. When they are together, if they see other fur babies they get really excited and like to bark. Which is probably, how they survived on their own for so long as a way to protect themselves being so small and older. Even though Skipper eventually warms up to new dogs, it takes a while, and he would probably be happiness as an only dog in his next home. Skipper is very much loved in his foster home. Thus, only the most perfect of home him will he grace. 🥰 If interested in adopting one of our available pets, please fill out an application at http://www.dixiegirldogrescue.org/adopt-form Most of our are pets are fostered in Southern foster homes and are posted for adoption once they are completely vetted and ready to travel. Story
Hello my name is Toby. 💙 I am a nine pound chihuahua. I've been told I look like a little fox. I was found as a stray by a family who could not keep me. 🐾 I came to a house with five cats and ten other dogs. I immediately liked all of them. When a dog came to visit for Thanksgiving, I didn't like him very much. Maybe because he was very big. When the vet neutered me, he guessed my age to be about five years. I did not like going to the vet at all. I barked and barked at all the people. I don't like people other than the ones that live in my family. I'm afraid of guests and visitors so I will bark and bark and act mean. When I am with my family, I am the perfect dog. I like to go on walks and walk fast. I always go to the bathroom outside. I don't even care if it's cold or raining. Sometimes I don't want to come in and my foster mom has to chase me. I love being chased. You have to be pretty quick to catch me. I definitely need a secure fenced in yard to run and play because if I got away I would run fast and no one would be able to catch me. I love playing with toys. Sometimes I play with them by myself. I love when my foster mom throws toys for me and I run and get them. When the weather is bad, my foster mom chases me around the house. I have to have my energy needs met. Although I love to play, I also love to cuddle and sleep next to my foster mom. I even sleep in the bed with her at night and sometimes go under the covers. I have to mention food because I really really love food. I will do anything for food. If you love small dogs and and are familiar with chihuahuas, then I could be the dog for you. I just want what every dog does, a safe and comfortable home where I can be loved. I like big, soft, comfy blankets, and romping with other doggies. You can't help but smile as I perform a happy tap dance to thank you for a yummy meal. A calm, easy going home is best. Kid's energy will be a bit much for me. As a sensitive, but very sweet guy, I ask for time to warm up. But with a gentle touch, and some one on one time, my personality will shine, then it's a wrap! I'll have your heart and you'll have mine. Est. birthdate is 8/19/2019, my $300.00 adoption fee includes vaccines up to date, neuter and microchip. If enjoying life's simple moments, chilling on the couch, and eating snacks is your vibe too we could be a match!

I like napping with other doggies, sniffing adventures in the yard, and getting "good girl" treats and cheese. I'd be the ideal little gal pal for someone retired or who works from home. As a sensitive, but very sweet girl, I ask for time to warm up, but with a gentle touch, and some one on one time, my personality will shine. Then it's a wrap! I'll have your heart and you'll have mine. Est. birthdate is 8/3/2015, 11.8 lbs., my $300.00 adoption fee includes vaccines up to date, spay and microchip. If you could use a sweet friend to go through life with, I'd love to hear from you!

Story
Silly is a Chiweenie that came from a severe hoarding situation. Poor Silly didn't even have a name until we rescued him and one of our teenage volunteers gave him his name, Silly loves to play and be loved on. Silly does have what we call a reactive personality. For that reason we are saying he needs to go to an experienced home where he can learn and thrive. Silly is really good with teenagers but has never met a small child. Silly is good with dogs as long as dont get in his face or growl at him. Silly is utd on shots and is neutered. With time, love and some patience, Silly will be a wonderful addition to any family. If you would like to know more about this little guy, please email us and we will send you an application. Thanks for choosing rescue! 2nd Chance Animal Sanctuary is a 501(c)3 Non-profit rescue organization. All of our animals come fully vetted which includes vaccinations, spay/neuter as well as Heartworm and flea/tick prevention. We can also arrange transportation to your location within 500 miles of our sanctuary in Hayden, Alabama if necessary. The additional charge of $35 (health certificate required for out of state travel) plus a .50 cents per mile charge to your location. This will be calculated on an individual basis should you need this option and you will be given the total prior to finalization of the adoption process. There is a Non-Refundable $100.00 deposit that will be required in order to secure a place on a transport. The $100.00 deposit will be deducted from the balance owed at the time of the adoption. Deposits and fees can be paid via PayPal, Venmo, or Cash. All balances must be paid in full at the time of the dog's arrival to you. We look forward to helping you find your family's new Baby!
