Story
If you’ve ever felt an intense desire to own a pup labeled as a “Chihuahua Mix” who somehow looks more like a teacup pit bull, congratulations—you’ve found your guy. Humphrey is his own special kind of mystery mix, and he will keep you guessing (and entertained) for life.Humphrey came in as a stray to the Pueblo location at the end of January and found the shelter environment pretty nerve-wracking. Thankfully, he landed in a patient, loving foster home where he’s been able to relax, decompress, and let his true personality shine. And oh, does he have a personality. Humphrey is *very vocal* and has many thoughts, feelings, and opinions to share. He does the classic “pittie scream,” barks for attention, demands dinner like he’s never been fed before, and sports a surprisingly deep “big boy” bark for his small size. He also whines, grumbles, and generally narrates his life.Despite all that commentary, Humphrey has the patience of a grumpy old man. When resident dogs start wrestling and playing, he feels personally responsible for shutting it down. Because of this, he would not do well in a very active household or with children looking for a constant playmate. He currently lives with dogs of all sizes, cats, and even a preschooler, and he cohabitates just fine—though the cats occasionally get an earful when they’ve offended him by existing. Humphrey would truly thrive in a quieter home where he can be the center of attention, enjoy frequent naps, lounge in very comfy beds, and snuggle up in your bed at night.Humphrey appears to be housebroken, though he has marked in the house a few times. Having some belly bands on hand can be helpful while he settles in. He also has alopecia along most of his back and the back of his head. It doesn’t seem to bother him, but monitoring his skin, keeping it protected, and working alongside your personal veterinarian if anything changes will be important.Transitions can be hard for Humphrey, and he can be quite anxious during times of change. He will need patience, understanding, and time to feel secure—but once he does, you’ll have a loyal, opinionated little companion who knows exactly what he wants and isn’t afraid to tell you.If you’re looking for a low-key homebody with a loud voice, a soft heart, and strong feelings about everything, Humphrey might just be your perfect match.I’m currently in a loving foster home offsite!
