Story
Hello there! My name is Coco—your soon-to-be best friend. I’m a playful, energetic girl who loves going on adventures. I love going for walks, playing fetch, and making new friends at the dog park—both big and small dogs love me! I haven’t lived with cats yet, but I get along with kids, especially older kids who understand my energy. I’m always happy to meet them! I do best with slightly older kids who can understand that I sometimes get excited. But don’t worry—I’m a friendly, affectionate girl who just needs a little supervision around young children because I might be too energetic for them. Last but not least, my favorite toys are squeaky–oh, they better be squeaky! If not, I’m not even taking a look at them–and bouncy balls. I love chasing them and can play fetch for hours if you’re down for it. I also love bones to chew on as it gives me pleasure feelings. Coco is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. If you would like to meet Coco to see if she is a good fit for your family, please fill out our short adoption application: www.betterworldrescue.org/adoption-application

Adoption fee: $650 Meet Fluffernutter, the fluffiest comeback story you’ll ever fall in love with. This gorgeous 2 year old, 52 lb Chow Chow was scheduled for euthanasia at a Central Valley shelter when DPS stepped in at the very last moment— and it’s hard to imagine how anyone could have let her go. She’s gentle, soulful, and proof that breed stereotypes don’t tell the whole story. Fluffernutter is truly an angel in a cloud of fur.   Daily Routine Fluffer starts her day around 6:30am, happily greeting her people and soaking up some morning affection before heading out for a 15–20 minute walk. Breakfast follows, usually served in a puzzle toy or snuffle mat to keep her mind engaged. The rest of her day is exactly how she likes it: slow and peaceful. She rotates between napping, gazing out the window for squirrels, enjoying a good chew, and accepting pets whenever they’re offered (which she hopes is often). She handles being home alone just fine, though you might come back to find her perched on top of her crate like a lookout, watching for your return. She gets another walk in the afternoon around 3:30pm and a final outing around 8:30pm. Dinner happens sometime between 5–7pm, typically when her humans remember— or when her very convincing sad eyes remind them. At night, she sleeps just outside the bedroom door, content to be nearby.   Personality When Fluffernutter first arrived, she was very shy and unsure, choosing to hide under the dining table and keep her distance. But with patience (and a strategic use of cheese), she slowly blossomed. She warmed up to the kids first, then her primary caregiver, and eventually learned to trust more broadly. Now, she greets her favorite people with big, full-body tail wags and will dramatically flop onto her side— or even roll onto her back— when she’s ready for pets.   True to her breed, she’s not a velcro dog or a snuggler, but she absolutely loves affection on her terms. She’ll happily sit with you while you pet her for as long as you’re willing. She’s calm, observant, and quietly devoted. Recently, she’s even started venturing upstairs to nap near her person while they work, or positioning herself strategically nearby to keep an eye on things. She is gentle in every sense— especially with treats, which she takes so delicately it’s almost surprising for such a big dog. With new people, she prefers a slow introduction. If someone reaches for her too quickly, she’ll simply move away to create space. Give her time, and she’ll let you know when you’ve earned her trust.   Social Life Fluffer has had limited interactions with other dogs so far. She’s shown that she can be curious and appropriate with calm dogs, but high-energy greetings can overwhelm her. She may do best with mellow canine companions or as a solo dog.   She doesn’t seem bothered by cats passing through the yard, though squirrels are another story entirely. With kids, she does best with calm, respectful interactions. She’s most comfortable with elementary school-aged children and older, while younger kids’ quick movements can make her a bit nervous.   Energy Level Fluffernutter is very much a lounger. She enjoys her walks but is happiest spending her day relaxing. Her only real bursts of excitement are reserved for squirrel sightings, which she takes very seriously. Occasionally, she’ll carry a toy from room to room in a playful moment, but she’s not high-energy or demanding. She’s also wonderfully non-destructive.   On Leash She walks nicely most of the time, though mornings can be more enthusiastic— especially when squirrels are active. She can pull during these moments and will benefit from continued leash training with someone steady on their feet. Outside of squirrel patrol, she’s calm and easy to walk. She doesn’t react to other dogs or people passing by, as long as they respect her space.   House Training & Crate Fluffer is fully house trained with zero accidents. She will choose to nap in her crate occasionally, but prefers it as an open, safe space—she’s not comfortable being closed inside it.   Habits & Quirks She loves her chew treats and will sometimes “borrow” clothing or stuffed animals —though more for carrying and drooling than actual destruction. She’s very quiet overall and only really barks when squirrels are involved. One of her funniest habits is climbing onto her crate to look out the window, where she stands like a majestic (and slightly ridiculous) sentinel.   Why Fluffernutter She is one of the gentlest, most serene dogs you’ll ever meet— wrapped in an absolutely stunning, fluffy package. If you’re looking for a mellow, loyal companion who will quietly keep you company and reward your patience with deep trust and affection, Fluffernutter is your girl.   Favorite Things There’s something incredibly special about sitting beside Fluffer and running your hands through her soft fur— it’s instantly calming. And if you’re lucky, she’ll place her paw over your hand as if to say, “please don’t stop.” It’s a small gesture, but it says everything about her sweet, understated way of loving.May 16, 2026, 7:07 pm

Story
Jack was found running loose in a park at a park in Elk Grove. WAR trapped him and took him to the animal shelter at Elk Grove. However, we had recognized something special in him and decided to pull him from the shelter and bring him to WAR.Jack is a Chow Chow mix and his personality is very indicative a Chow. Jack is stand-offish at first but is slowly coming around. He would be best suited for someone familiar with the Chow breed and once he is yours, he will follow his person till the end of time. He is the great intimidator for those who do not understand the breed. He is NOT a biter but needs to be approached slowly because of his breeds personality. We absolutely adore Jack Jack and he is slowly being introduced to dogs in a large pack of 10 - he is doing well and does not have a mean bone in his body. Jack-Jack is also crate trained. ##2372297##
