Story
Kristoff is being fostered in TX. Kristoff's foster home would like you to know: That Kristoff is the embodiment of Happiness! This little man is filled with joy in everything he does. His tail waggle is ever present and he does a happy dance regularly. He truly is a joy and just wants to be where you are. Kristoff does shed. He has a shed similar to a husky or Shepard, where he has seasonal times where he blows his coat. Meet Kristoff (aka Kris, Little Man)! This precious pup is a chow mix, approximately 9 years old. But don’t let his age or blindness (he is blind due to cataracts) fool you, he is a spry, happy go lucky guy who can sure pour on the puppy dog eyes! When he wakes up he will do a happy dance to start the day (whether it is because he is so happy to greet his people or because it is time for breakfast is up for debate) and his joyfulness continues throughout the day (he is equally enthusiastic about bedtime!). Although his happiness abounds, he is mostly an easy going fellow and is content to enjoy the simple pleasures: his meals, leisurely strolls through the yard, chewing a bone, enjoying a cookie and most importantly, being near his people as much as possible. He is a low maintenance boy, doesn’t require a lot of walking and would thrive most in a laid back environment with someone patient, who doesn’t mind talking a lot (your voice will help guide him) and who can give him helpful hints to help him on his way (like “bump” warnings, etc). Kris can become a bit jumpy when scared or unsure, but trusting his people fixes that. The world can be a scary place when you can’t see, but most of the time he takes it in stride. He moves slowly to find his way and needs to build trust so he can feel safe. Luckily he is very smart and a fast learner (he learned how to find and use his foster’s doggy door within a day & lets himself in and out, and quickly learned “sit” and now enthusiastically sits on his own to wait for his meals). He doesn’t always love getting leashed, but he does follow along (happily, once he trusts the person on the other end) and he is definitely not a fan of car rides. Kris gets a little protective over food & treats and will give a warning grumble but he is otherwise ok with other dogs, he just isn’t too interested in them. Unsure about cats or kids. But we all have our things, right? This well behaved boy is content to sit in his room or crate, patiently waiting, and loves a routine that allows for lots of rests and doggy massages on request. The yard is his happy place. And above all else, this fellow is a pure joy to be around. If you have the time and patience to help this little man navigate the world, you will soon realize that you are very blessed to have this bundle of love by your side! BDRA has voted against the use of electrical fencing effective immediately.

Story
Sparky doesn’t emit sparks but he is surely is vivacious! Sparky is an adult male chow-chow mix looking for his retirement home. Sparky may not win any fetch awards but will definitely win over anyone’s heart with his cool, calm and collective ways. Sparky is a very independent dog and doesn’t require a lot of training. Training would probably entail getting him to actually get up off his warm cozy bed to go for an afternoon light stroll. Sparky is quite content relaxing. From time to time, he will show his sparkier side, by playing with a stuffed toy to amuse himself. Since he is on the more mature side, he may be overwhelmed with too many little hands and feet around him including other fur paws, so a home with a retired couple is his cup of decaffeinated tea. So this introverted homebody is seeking another introverted home body. Sparky is available for foster/adoption. He is located in Inverness, FL. Hearts and Paws Rescue is a non profit and all donations go towards saving other animals from kill shelters. Most of which need medical, vaccines, spay/neuter, housing, flea/tick/heartworm meds, etc. By fostering/adopting this pup, you will also help to save another. Thank you for your interest in adopting a rescue dog.

Story
Hi, I’m Lola. My favorite color is purple and I am a very sweet girl who loves to play fetch. I also enjoy working part-time as squirrel security. I make sure that squirrels in my yard are up in the trees where they belong. If you have a farm, I will happily herd any small vehicles (a Polaris, for eg.) to make sure they also are routed in the right direction. Don’t worry, though, as soon as I finish patrolling squirrels and herding any small vehicles on your farm, I will come running back. I love my humans and want to be near them as much as possible. I guess you can say I aim to please so commands like “sit, lay down, stay, come, and leave it” are a piece of cake. I’d be happy to learn some new ones if it makes you proud and happy! Why is my mom trying to find a better home for me? Well, she was volunteering at a dog rescue back in Ohio in 2021 and took me home on a trial basis only to discover that one of the 2 male cats living with her was NOT happy about adding a canine sibling to his family. She worked with us by seeking lots of advice from the vet, etc., and, although some progress was made, the household stress continued and I started to develop my own anxieties over the irreconcilable differences.     I thought my cat problems would soon be in the past, however, because my mom’s (adult) daughter became my best friend. We took naps together all the time (something my mom couldn’t do because my alpha cat brother was so territorial about our mom). Anyway, her daughter spoiled me and planned to take me with her when she moved from Ohio to Vermont (my mom was moving to Florida at the same time). Unfortunately, at the very last minute, things unexpectedly did not work out and I found myself in a moving truck to Florida and, despite all efforts, my anxiety over the situation with the cat brother has not improved.   My mom is very sad but also very hopeful that I can find a forever family that will be able to play fetch, go bye-bye (I’ll go anywhere and I wait patiently in the car on cooler days), and take naps with me. I’m told I am the sweetest doggie and I even let the toddler that my mom nannies play with me without any complaints (although if I’m staring at you, it means I’m asking you how long do I have to be polite to this strange human creature). Mom truly wants me to be soooo much happier and less anxious in a home with NO CATS due to the 2 years I have endured with an alpha cat. I’m okay with most dogs as long as they’re not aggressive. I guess I have just gotten used to defending myself with this cat issue.  So, enough about me. tell me about you by applying to adopt me. Mom says she is more than happy to make this transition as easy as possible for me and would be happy to help out with any needs I may have because she loves me so much. I guess what I mean is that it can be an “open adoption” of sorts, if you’d like, although we are both hoping that the right family will help me to live my best most happiest life and that I’ll be satisfied with sending an occasional e-mail to my mom to let her know I’m doing great! After all, isn’t that what every parent wants for their fur baby when it leaves the nest?   ##1735004##

Story
Chewie absolutely loves going for walks. He gets so very excited to be leashed up. He is a good boy. Chewie gives the very best hugs. He does need careful introductions to new people. He will bark at them, but usually will give them a hug at the same time. He does get along with some dogs, but not all. Although he is a senior, he still enjoys playing with stuffed toys as well as chewys. Chewie suffers from allergies and takes daily allergy pills and gets allergy shots when needed. He is highly food motivated and would be very easy to housetrain. He enjoys being with his person and prefers women over men. He is a good watch dog too.
