Meet Muffy! A golden-coated, gentle six-and-a-half-year-old Chow Chow currently in Sykesville, MD, who is looking for a new loving home after her devoted pet parent passed away. With a quiet charm and an old soul, Muffy is the kind of companion who prefers to observe the world from a cozy corner or the fresh air of a securely fenced yard before she fully opens her heart. Once she does, you’ll find a deeply loyal friend who offers high-fives, twirls with grace, and quietly becomes your biggest fan. Muffy is a medium-sized beauty, weighing in at 50 pounds, and is the very definition of "selectively social." She’s a fan of peaceful walks, forest hikes, and engaging trick sessions. Her cue repertoire is impressive, including “spin,” “wave,” and even “heel.” While she can be shy with new faces, Muffy has the heart of a loyal guardian and just needs time, patience, and a calm environment to truly blossom. This lovely girl thrives in a quiet, cat-free home with one or two experienced adults who understand her need for routine, space, and gentle encouragement. She’s not a fan of fast-moving chaos or surprise greetings from strangers, so children and busy households aren’t the right fit. Though selective with other dogs, she has formed bonds with a few, so a laid-back canine sibling might be on her list, provided proper introductions are handled slowly and respectfully. Muffy is house-trained, spayed, vaccinated, and beautifully behaved indoors. She's also quite independent and doesn’t mind being left alone for short periods. She loves her daily Greenie and enjoys a good brushing to maintain her plush coat. She does have one cautionary tale in her history (a single bite incident involving an unleashed dog who ran up to her) but in her daily life, Muffy is calm, observant, and deeply sweet with the people she trusts. She needs structure, not chaos; softness, not force; and a caregiver who sees the beauty in moving at her pace. Meet Mystique! This gorgeous girl is a 3–5-year-old Chow Chow, weighing in at 43 pounds. Mystique had a pittie brother she loved to play with, but sadly, both were abandoned in an apartment. We don’t know how long they were left alone, but thankfully someone discovered them while clearing out the unit. Her brother has since been adopted — now it’s Mystique’s turn to find her forever home. Mystique has clearly been through a lot. She landed on the euthanasia list with just days to spare, but the shelter staff rallied for her. She was a favorite there, and their support bought her precious time. As with many Chows, Mystique was hesitant about affection at first, but it only took a few hours for her to start warming up. On the ride home, she was anxious — stress-panting and refusing to lie down — but once she arrived at her foster’s home, she gave a sweet, gentle lick… a true Purple Kiss of Approval! (If you know Chows, you know how special that is.) Now that she’s settling in, Mystique loves zooming around the yard before lounging on the deck, gazing out from the same spot her foster sister Autumn loves. She’s happiest with room to roam, so a home with a fenced yard or an active adopter who enjoys hiking would be ideal. Like many Chows, she’s not food motivated, but she’s catching on with leash training and respects the boundaries of a gated room. Mystique gets along well with the other dogs in her foster home, and we’d love to find her a home with a furry sibling to play with. Meet Mushu… Mushu is just a baby. At only 12 weeks old, this tiny Lab/Chow mix (that’s our best guess) has already experienced more neglect than any soul ever should. We know his mama, Princess, is a sweet cream Chow mix with the gentlest heart. We don’t know who Dad is — and without a costly DNA test our rescue simply can’t afford — we can only guess from Mushu’s soft features and soulful eyes that there may be Lab in him too. What we do know is how his story began. Mushu, his six siblings, and their mama were pulled from a very high-kill shelter in Georgia. When they arrived to us, Mama Princess was soaked in urine. Her babies — including little Mushu — were drenched the same way, their tiny fur matted and caked with feces. They were dirty, uncomfortable, and failed long before they ever had a chance to be loved. It’s heartbreaking to imagine their first memories of this world being so cold and unkind. And yet… Mushu still wags his tail. He is a typical rambunctious puppy, full of innocent joy, bouncing around as if his past never happened. He is unbelievably sweet, trusting, and eager for affection — as if he’s choosing to believe the world can still be good. Mushu will be ready for adoption at 8 weeks old, and we are currently accepting applications for this precious little nugget. He will receive his first round of vaccinations prior to adoption. His adopter will be responsible for his remaining vet visits and vaccinations. Our rescue will schedule and cover the cost of his neuter when he is old enough. Mushu deserves a life that looks nothing like his beginning. He deserves clean blankets, gentle hands, and a family who will never let him feel forgotten again. MEET VIOLET! Violet is a Smooth Coat Chow Chow mix who is estimated to be between 4-5 years old and weighs only 45 pounds. Violet and her lab friend were dumped together at a MS shelter. It took a week for the shelter to catch the dogs. She had split the large pad on one of her back feet. Her friend was adopted right away but not Violet and after 3 year she is still waiting for her forever home. Violet current foster decided to pull her but unfortunately this November will be 3 years she has been in foster care. Her foster reached out to us to help get her a great forever home. No dog should ever have to wait 3 plus years to find their home but unfortunately in today's world this is happening more, more often. She wants to have a home so badly. She is by herself in a 4x8 indoor kennel run just pining her life away. Violet loves, loves, loves toys and to play. She would love a home with a single person or a couple who loves the outdoors so she can run, run, run and make up for lost time. She would love to go on daily hikes or just have the ball thrown to her a few times in her new forever backyard. Violet gets along great with male dogs but is dominate with other female dogs. It is obvious Violet was beaten and abused so she will need an adopter who will be patient with her. Vilot is terrified of her foster mom's cane and when she was doing fence repair was scared to death of the 2x4 boards when her foster mom picked them up or large sticks when she is doing yard work. Violet trusts her foster mom immensely and when called she will come bouncing back to her. She has the goofiest personality and makes her foster mom laugh multiple times a day. Violet is spayed, heartworm negative, up to date on all shots and ready to go. She is housebroken, crate trained. She deserves a home so bad, yet nobody wants Violet. Are you Violet's angel?
