RCHS does not conduct DNA tests on dogs who enter our facility therefore we are unable to guarantee breed or breed mix. Information provided by shelter staff, volunteers, and veterinarians is used to give a best estimate as to a dog’s breed make up. We do our best to inform adopters about the potential breeds for each dog.We are a dog only facility so we do not know how most of our dogs will be with cats. Even if a dog is surrendered to us and said to be good with cats there is no way to be sure the dog will be good with your cats. We do have a 7 day foster-to-adopt program so that you can see how the dog interacts with your cats before adoption.

Allow us to introduce you to SISSY, a 2 year old Chow Chow who was darting across a busy highway when she was found. She was with another larger Chow Chow, who sadly was hit by a vehicle and didn't survive. SISSY is a petite girl with the most beautiful face and intelligent eyes. She is a little hesitant upon first meeting someone and is easiy startled, but she is a lovebug who gives as many kisses as she gets. However, she is a Chow Chow and they can be quirky, tempermental and protective of their family so we are looking for a Chow savvy family for SISSY. Harrison County Dog Pound 82900 Toot Rd, Cadiz, OH 43907. Hours: M-F 10am-4pm; Saturdays 9am-2pm. Closed Sundays and holidays. Out of state adoptions welcomed. Adoption applications are available at the pound or online at harrisoncountydogpoundvolunteers,org. Apple users must submit application using Google, not Safari. $40 adoption fee. 740-942-4080

You can call me "Honey" if you want, because I'm the one you want!Honey is a chow chow/shepherd mix that was found as a stray in Huber Heights. The ARC was unable to take him and told the finder if she could not keep him, she would have to let him back out to roam. That is when Honey came to his current foster instead. Honey is approximately 8 years of age and SO darn snuggly. He wants to sit in your lap, lay on your arms, be inside your skin, WHATEVER if it means he can be touching you. Honey is a super vocal man. He likes to talk, howl, groan and voice his disapproval. Honey will let you know when he is overwhelmed, not happy, or doesn’t want to do something. If he is able to be right beside you he is quiet unless he needs something. Honey is not a fan of being touched in a few areas but his foster is working on him being less sensitive and tolerating touch in those areas better. Honey is a COUCH POTATO! He is more than content to lay around all day with just a 10 or so minute walk thrown in. Any longer than 10-15 minutes of walking and he gets exhausted! Honey is doing phenomenal with crate training and does well going in with a treat. Honey has no issues getting acquainted to other dogs through a barrier. Honey is working on his manners with other dogs in the same room with showing dominance and with resource guarding of something he really wants.
