Story
Meet Appa! Appa is the sweetest little guy with a whole lot of love to give! He’s wonderful with other dogs and cats, and he previously lived in a home with children. He’s potty trained, has great house manners, and doesn’t bother visitors. He can even use a designated potty spot when getting outside isn’t possible. Talk about a good boy! A few things Appa’s future family should know: • He’s still working on his leash skills and seems much more accustomed to running and playing off-leash in a yard. • He LOVES car rides! • He is VERY food motivated and will do just about anything for a tasty treat. • He’s a little counter surfer, so he’ll need some help learning to keep those paws on the floor. • Crates and grooming aren’t exactly his favorite things, but he does well loose in the house. • He’s also a self-appointed security officer who will alert you if a dangerous blinking light or suspicious leaf blows past the door. Appa is incredibly lovable, easygoing, and ready to be someone’s very best little buddy. ********************************************************************* Schedule a meet-and-greet by completing our Adoption Survey on the Adopt page of our website at https://www.olddominionhumanesociety.org/adoption-survey. Story
https://foha.org/pet/ashland2021/ ABOUT THIS ANIMAL: Hi, I’m Ashland — a gentle southern soul with endearing ears and a deep loyalty to those I trust. I’m all about peaceful walks, relaxing car rides, and cuddling up with my favorite humans. I walk beautifully on a harness and would love to be your nature-walking buddy. I’m shy at first, but once I feel safe, I become an affectionate companion who loves belly rubs and silly zoomies in the yard. Because I’m sensitive to new environments and fast introductions, I’m looking for a calm, adult-only home with an experienced adopter who understands dogs like me. I’ll thrive in a quiet, single-family home where I can be the only pet. HOW AM I WITH DOGS: I prefer to be the only pup in the home. Other dogs stress me out — I shine best solo! HOW AM I WITH CATS: Not a good match — please, no cats. HOW AM I WITH KIDS: I need a home without children. I KNOW THE FOLLOWING COMMANDS: Sit and Down — no treats required, just love! MY HOUSEBREAKING AND/OR CRATING: I do well in calm environments and adapt to routines. FOHA can provide more specifics. THINGS I LIKE: Long, quiet walks • Snuggling on the couch • Treats • Belly rubs • Riding in the car THINGS I DISLIKE: Crowds • Sudden noise • Fast introductions • City life • Other dogs on leash FOHA ADOPTION POLICIES AND PROCESS: https://foha.org/pet-adoption/adoption-policies/ ADOPTION FEE INCLUDES: Spay/neuter, vaccines (rabies, distemper & Bordetella), 1-month access to Petcademy (training & behavior support), slip lead leash, 1 bag of starter food, 1-month flea/tick & heartworm preventatives, diagnostic testing, and additional medical care as needed.

Some dogs are the ones who quietly watch from the sidelines, taking it all in before deciding who they can trust. That's Fred. Fred is a calm, easygoing boy who prefers to move through life at his own pace. He's not the type to rush up and shower strangers with kisses, and that's okay. He likes a little time to observe, settle in, and realize he's safe. Once he does, you'll discover a gentle, loyal companion who's happiest simply sharing space with the people he loves. Fred is looking for an adopter who understands that trust is something that's earned, not expected. Someone who won't take his reserved nature personally, but will appreciate the quiet moments and celebrate each little milestone as his confidence grows. He's the perfect match for someone who enjoys peaceful walks, relaxing evenings at home, and the special bond that comes from letting a dog open up on his own terms. The best relationships aren't always the fastest—they're often the ones built with patience, understanding, and kindness. Fred has so much love to give. He just needs someone willing to let him share it when he's ready. If you believe that the sweetest friendships are worth waiting for, Fred can't wait to meet you.
