Story
https://foha.org/pet/ashland2021/ Hello world! I'm Ashland! One look at my sweet face and my adorably silly ears, I promise you'll fall in love. I'm a sweet southern gentleman who loves a nice stroll through the woods. I walk nicely with a harness and love exploring. I love adventures and car rides. I'm the perfect passenger and will look out the window or lay down in the back seat. I may even poke my head up front to give you a kiss. I know "sit" and "down" and will do both happily and even without a treat! Since I can be a little shy, I do best with a slow introduction. Once I warm up and trust (doesn't take too long especially with some yummy treats and a gentle touch), I love with my whole heart. I'll lean in for snuggles and belly rubs. And I'll be all tail wags. I've even been known to do some zoomies when I get excited to see my favorite people. I will be best in a home with no kids under 10 years old. And I'd really love to be the only dog for you to love. I can be reactive in new situations so living in a condo, apartment or townhouse are not recommended. I'm really good at letting you know if I'm feeling uncomfortable and my usual happy wagging tail will droop. I prefer to live a nice quiet life. City life isn't my style. I do hope that I can become your new best friend! If you have a nice house with a fenced in yard I would be so happy! Submit an application and come on out to meet me! Please contact Kady Hammer (KadyH@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.young boy ready to play! SAMPSON NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name:   Sampson          Best Guess for Breed:  Chow Chow mix Best Guess for Age:  6 months as of 5/21/25       SEX:  Male   Approximate Weight:  22 lbs as of 5/21/25 - he is still growing!   Gets Along With:  Sampson is great with other dogs and has done well with kids too! We haven't seen him with cats but are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters.   Currently Living at:   Puerto Rico shelter; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get on a freedom flight on June 14!   See this cutie in this video! - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_gi_dV52Xs   Special Adoption Considerations: Dogs from Puerto Rico have a major transition to go through when they arrive and will need humans who are very committed to socialization. We think Sampson would do best with either a resident dog or a family who can make sure he can go on walks regularly with other dogs, visit the dog park, or go to doggie daycare to learn the ropes.   About Sampson and what he is is looking for: He's looking for his forever home! This sweetie was rescued off the streets of Puerto Rico. He survived parvo and now is happy, healthy puppy oh so ready and eager to have his own humans for sniffy walks, romps in parks, and all the adventures they can dream up. The local rescue personnel who took care of him say he is wonderful and has a huge heart.    Sampson has so much love and loyalty - is so ready to be a well loved family dog. What do you say? Are you his family? What My Foster Says About Me:   We will update this once Sampson has arrived in the DC area and spent some time in foster care here. Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online   at   bit.ly/adoptaluckydog  .   Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Thank you for your interest in a Home At Last Sanctuary, Inc. animal.  STOP!!! READ!! The ENTIRE DESCRIPTION before you inquire. Do not call, email, txt, send an inquiry through any other website complete our online application FIRST. http://hals.rescuegroups.org/forms/form?formid=3016 Visit our official website(s) here HomeAtLastSanctuary.ORG or HALS.RescueGroups.ORG There is a complete our application only. Brody's Rabies Click Here Oftentimes, black and darker colored dogs languish in shelters much longer than lighter colored dogs. There are a lot of reasons for this. Potential adopters often rely on a “first look” with photos rescues and shelters have provided online of individual dogs, and dark colored dogs are more difficult to photograph. Some people may have an aversion towards animals with dark coats based on superstition or personal belief systems. And some people think black and dark colored dogs look more menacing than they actually are because their dark faces make it harder to read their facial expressions.  Unfortunately, these stigmas translate into real-life adoption rates and a lack of interest in these beautiful pups who deserve homes.  TAKE A SECOND LOOK AT BRODY We estimate Brody was born around October 2019. Please see attached file BrodyDogFactsReport.PDF to see exactly what mix of breeds is in Brody’s DNA.  We also ran the DNA Health assessment to see if there are any health risks based on his DNA. This will give a lot of insight to prospective adopters. What it will not tell you is what it is like living with Brody.  Brody came into the care of Home At Last Sanctuary October 2023 as an owner surrender.  He was adopted in Atlanta GA, after a few months moved to Boston MA, after a few months moved to Silver Spring MD with the parents of the adopter.  The person that adopted Brody moved once again to Los Angeles CA and left Brody behind. Brody was extremely insecure and was very reactive to other dogs on the walk and out in public.  He is doing much better and will need someone willing and able to continue nurturing confidence in Brody.  Brody has found comfort in a regular routine.  He knows where he fits in.  He is a very affectionate and loving dog. As of now, April 2025, Brody has share his foster home with eight other foster dogs.  Five have been adopted and he lives with two other dogs now.  There are links below to videos and photos of Brody and you can see him interact with the other dogs. He weighs about 37 pounds, is healthy, active, and playful dog.  He likes attention and will snuggle in for giving and getting love and attention.   He is good with other dogs after proper introduction.  He would not likely do well with cats.   He has not been evaluated around children.  It does seem as like he would do will with children that is respectful of dogs boundaries and adequate supervision from adults. Home At Last Sanctuary, Inc. offers certified previously owned dogs to be perfectly matched lifetime companions.  Brody's personal Webpage: Click or copy paste this link https://hals.rescuegroups.org/animals/detail?AnimalID=19883451 There are photos and videos on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.6624654667615858&type=3 Here is Brody's video playlist on YouTube https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL6X5lkFtFSjOW9jfMwgBV9FH6z9x3P0ob&si=rstM6Fxd7yXM3f_m Brody has videos here too: https://www.facebook.com/HalSavesDogs/reels/ Please be aware.  We only place dogs within a one hour drive from Rockville MD.  When we have an approved application Brody will come for a home visit and meet and greet.  We will spend adequate time to determine if this is a good match.  We return another day once the new family has prepared to do an adoption. There are no exceptions. Thank you for understanding.   Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Click here to apply to ADOPT ME   Dogs listed here come from different sources Some dog's owner have passed and their family could not care for their companion, some lifestyle has changed and a new home would be in the best interest of their companion. Some are foster dogs placed in our care by different rescue groups.  Each dog may have a different process for adopting animals and charge different adoption fees. Use the link below to complete a Short Form with your basic information. http://hals.rescuegroups.org/forms/form?formid=3016 Please complete the Application Short Form (link above)  Your information will be reviewed and you will be advised the next step.  If the dog you applied for is a match based on this information you will asked to provide Additional Information or directed to complete the Adoption Application from the Rescue Group that has placed the companion in our care. You may be called by a volunteer, you may receive an email asking additional information or you may be requested to complete and Additional Information form. Please look our emails for further information.  We are all volunteers so we will get to you as soon as we can.
