Story
Meet Vito- a soulful, affectionate gentle good boy - approximately 3-4 yrs- Vito's weight is approx. 45 lbs, he is up to date with vaccinations, and is neutered and microchipped (Rabies, Distemper, Bordetella) he is affectionate, enthusiastic. ADR.org rescued this wonderful creature last minute from the Riverside shelter "death row" where he was euthanization listed due to Shyness, and full shelter situation. Before arriving on Orcas Island, WA via ground transport Vito spend 3 weeks in boarding and a trainer gave this assessment: Initially shy when first arriving and cautious around new people • Previously head-shy, especially when the leash was being put on or taken off • Has since overcome head shyness with the leash coming on and off • Responds best to a calm, confident person who moves slowly and takes his time • Warms up significantly when he observes positive interactions between his handler and another dog • Very gentle and well-mannered on leash • Enjoys being scratched on his back • Prefers minimal handling under the chin and chest area • Should be approached slowly and allowed to set the pace • Loves sniffing during walks and benefits from slow, exploratory outings I, owner of ADR.org thoroughly enjoy Vito's presence and clearly can tell that his lovely personality shines through. ADR.org would like to see him in a home with Chow-savvy adults. Not a high energy household with nobody dedicating a lot of time to him. He so longs to have "his human" around, interacting with the respective person(s). He loves his walks, or a backyard (FENCED!) but still YOU will be the most important being in his life. While he is good with respectful dogs, he is not the "mingler"- and dogs parks would not be a preferred place for him. If you are interested and think you can offer a good and dedicated forever home, please send an email to : ADR@animaldefenserescue.org and tell a bit about yourself. Add some photos. I will then send you an application and we will have a get-to-know-each-other phone call. In the course of the adoption process you must be willing to come to Orcas Island to meet your new friend and then eventually leave with him. VITO looks forward to hearing from you

Story
LEONA was found as a stray in horribly neglected condition, missing much of her fur, and brought to the LA City shelter beginning of November. She has been estimated to be between 3-5 years old, weighs 49 lbs., and was previously spayed. ADR.org WA saved her life and since then, the rescue has provided extensive vetting with bloodwork, microchipping, and vaccinations. LEONA is a very lovely, shy girl that likes keeping to herself, but is socially tolerant, takes corrections without a problem, and has a gentle and dainty playstyle. She greets people she trusts with a tail wag. LEONA has a YouTube video in the posting (made by the trainer of the boarding facility she was after vet stay and before coming to WA) that shows her in the play yard with other dogs and, she can be seen happily running around in video. She was described by this trainer as: “Overall calm temperament, Sweet, gentle, and shy girl. Also: • Dog-friendly with both large and small dogs • Good with people, shy at first and benefits from slow introductions • Does not engage much in play; prefers to keep to herself and sniff • Comfortable with touch and handling • Nervous around loud noises • Does great on leash, still pulls into different directions at times • Handles small or enclosed spaces well (crate-trained) • Once comfortable, very affectionate • Enjoys jumping into arms, cuddling, and receiving pets” Additionally, after thorough Vet exam, and tests, LEONA was found to have dry eye issues and a condition called Keratoconjunctivitis, which is inadequate tear production, causing redness, and pain if untreated. Therefore, LEONA will need eye ointments or drops administered daily and continuously. For the time being, LEONA is part of the rescue Founder’s “gang” on Orcas Island (OI), WA. If you think LEONA would be a good friend and pet for you, please reach out via email to: ADR@animaldefenserescue.org to receive an application. Without you filling out and returning your application to ADR.org you will not be considered. Furthermore, you need to be willing to come to Orcas Island, WA Island, WA so that a meet and greet (with possible then same day adoption) can happen - and the rescue founder can meet you in real. Prior to meet and greet and the screening call you will receive more photos and videos (in the postings I can only use limited # of “visuals). Once the application has been returned, and prior to your coming we will have a phone call in which you can ask all the questions you might have and I (owner of ADR.org) will get to know you better and feel more comfortable as well that you might be the right person for dear LEONA. She so deserves a stable, knowledgeable, and caring home that is fully committed and you can offer the home she truly deserves and will thrive in. ADR.org is more than happy to help with ferry reservations, and accommodation here on OI (if necessary). LEONA looks forward to hearing from you!

Story
Meet MOMO- a genuine character. AnimalDefense Rescue.org rescued MOMO from the Modest Shelter in CA. She was surrendered back to the shelter by the same people who had adopter her from there - they did so with the argument that she was too strong on walks and this elderly couple could not keep up with her on walks. MOMO's age was given as UNKNOWN by the CA shelter but ADR.org can say - based on CA vet check and then here in WA on arrival- that her age is adult - and the age bracket is between 3-4 years. She weights around 55lbs. Assessment from ADR.org and trainer in Modesto,CA shelter: **MOMO is a very sweet girl that is selective at first with humans she wants to interact with, and she will take time to seek affection. MOMO needs someone who understands the needs of this particular breed. Unexperienced adopters who never had a ChowChow before would not be a fair match for MOMO. ** MOMO is apprehensive when meeting new people or a new person and needs someone who understands subtle signals and allows her to decompress on her own timeline. She is a very manageable size and warms up to a new person/people who are calm and do not force affection on her too fast. **MOMO has bonded very well to me, the owner and founder of ADR.org - but she took her time and was not interested at all in me the first 2 weeks. Basic obedience and sticking to a pattern of cues i gave her showed true results and she now mentally "connects with me. The future owner will need to pick up on it, and continue to create a relationship with her and not pressure her to interact. Let her come to you. But once she "likes" you , do not be surprised to get s sudden lick out of the blue. ** MOMO can keep herself busy for some time but shall not be left alone in a backyard for a long time. She is crate trained as well. She can be very funny! The future home should be without cat(s), and preferably no children under 16. if you are interested in MOMO and think you can give her a home that satisfies her needs - reach out by emailing me The email address is ADR@animalDefensererscue.org. Send some photos of your home, or what you want to share are welcome. You will then receive an application form that you please fill out and return ASAP. After review of your application, I would like to talk to you to get to know you well- that call can be up to 60min. you can ask all questions you have. MOMO is spayed, is microchipped and up to date with vaccinations. ADR.org looks forward to hearing from you.

Story
*hair blowing in the wind (even though she's indoors)* *unexplained sparkles in the air* *faint heavenly music* Yes, she is me. Chloe. Now that you are blinded by my beauty, let me explain why I am the absolute best girl on the inside too and so deserving of your (and everyone's) undivided adoration. I'm loyal, smart as a whip, and FUN, just to name a few. Unfortunately, I didn't come from the most glamorous beginnings. I was an outdoor doggy with not much interaction from birth and my family also left me behind when they moved. Thus, I wasn't really brought up interacting with you humans or being touched/handled. I've had my quirks while adjusting to being a family dog and will definitely need someone patient and understanding with me. (If you get too touchy right away, I don't like that and will try to protect myself.) However, if you are slow and gain my trust I will HANG on your every move. I have adjusted very quickly in the past with proper introductions to people. Even still, I would probably do best in a home without young children. I'm a lady after all and need time to sniff you out before you get grabby. I am an active girl and love to feel the wind in my hair outdoors too. I run with the speed of light and have a prey drive to sniff out bugs, lizards and more. I also love to play tug of war and fetch with my foster mommy inside. I bounce, bounce, bounce all the time! I am great on leash so walks and hikes would be great for me. Getting my energy out will help me focus on training too. I am very smart and learn quickly, but tend to lose interest if I'm still chock full of go, go, go!! With all of this perfection, all of your pet needs should be fulfilled, right? RIGHT? I hope so because I would do great as an only pet in the home. I have been able to co-exist with dogs at the rescue but I am a bit of a diva in my foster home. I have a domineering personality sometimes and will even mark like a male when I come across another dog's scent in my house. How dare they??? Existing? HERE? (She is otherwise house trained.) Considering that you and I know each other a little better now, you may pet me. Yes, I am very soft, I know. Please keep in mind that I am a Chow/shepherd mix and have hair that will require brushing, maybe even the occasional spa treatment, Swedish massage, 24k gold facials...yeahhhhhhhhhh.... Sorry! I forgot you were here. In all seriousness, once I trust you, I will allow you to brush me out without much fuss. It doesn't need to be daily but I am a rough and tumble kinda gal and can use help keeping my locks flowing and free. I also shed so if I seem to be losing my girlish figure, it's probably just extra hair that needs to be brushed off. I hope you have a strong vacuum. ;) I could go on for days about myself, but I'll stop here. Don't wanna overwhelm you. If you think you are up for the challenge of a total spitfire like me, please feel free to send in an application and foster mommy can tell you more about all of the grandeur that is...CHLOE.
