Story
New look, new attitude! Gonzo was the most aloof and scared of the family of 3 matted little ones surrendered to us, but he’s coming out of his shell and warming up to a sweet playful pup now that he’s feeling better. He enjoys the company of other dogs and needs some time and space to warm up to people and get used to being groomed and handled but gets sweeter each day. He’s only 18 months old, 17lbs full grown with a non-shedding coat that will need regular grooming for life. Email njwoof@cs.com to meet Gonzo in Northern NJ Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.

Story
Darby is a 5-year-old Cockapoo with a loving, gentle personality. He was my mother's companion, and after she passed away in February, he came to live with us. Darby is happiest when he's with people. He's incredibly affectionate, loves curling up on the couch for cuddles, and is the perfect lap dog. We're committed to being transparent about his needs so that we can find the right match for him. While Darby will often let you know when he wants to go outside, he is not fully house-trained and still has occasional accidents indoors. He also doesn't enjoy being left alone for long periods and may howl when no one is home. Because of these needs, Darby would do best in home where someone is around much of the day, such as a retiree, someone who works from home, or a family with a flexible schedule. Our decision to rehome Darby has been incredibly difficult. We also have a 10-year-old dog, and despite our best efforts, managing two dogs has become more than our busy schedules can handle.

Story
Suns out, tongue’s out! Who says you need teeth to have fun? Certainly not this girl! Yara is a 5-year-old cockapoo, a former mill mama with magical abilities to capture the hearts of all who see her. She arrived at Wellie’s Wish in desperate need of dental work. Unfortunately, most of her teeth could not be saved and had to be extracted. But what she lacks in teeth, she makes up for in sweetness and spunk, and a tongue perpetually hanging out! Yara is still learning how to be a real dog, so she loves having other dogs around to show her the ropes! She loves to be outside as much as possible, and is doing very well with house training! Yara loves her people and would like to be cuddled constantly, please and thank you. And look at the face - who could resist cuddling her? But constant cuddles will require she is in a home where she will not be alone too much. Yara is good with cats and kids. She is very skittish and easily startled so she would do best in a quiet home with a family who will give her the patience, love and affection she deserves! Please note: her lack of teeth means she will need to be on a soft foods diet from now on. Potential adopters must be able to provide this. Also, she had to be shaved when she arrived. We expect she will have a fluffy, doodle coat soon! Pa kennel License # 07735

Biscotti - This sweet 8-year-old Cockapoo is getting her second chance at life. Biscotti spent her life as a puppy mill mama, and when she arrived in rescue, her coat was so severely overgrown and matted that she had to be shaved down. Despite everything she's been through, Biscotti has been nothing but gentle, loving, and grateful. Now that she's safe, she's learning what it means to be cherished, cared for, and treated like family. Every soft bed, kind touch, and tasty treat is something new for this deserving girl. Biscotti's puppy mill days are behind her, and her future is finally bright. 💕 Please help us show her that the best chapter of her life is still ahead.

Your fee doesn't just cover the immediate costs of your new best friend’s veterinary care, vaccinations, and daily nourishment—it extends a lifeline to the next animal in need. Beyond individual care, a portion of these funds goes directly toward building our permanent sanctuary, helping us create a safe, state-of-the-art haven for misunderstood and unadoptable dogs. When you adopt from us, you aren't just saving one life; you are actively helping build a foundation of safety for countless others
