Story
Some dogs just have a way of reaching right into your heart, and Vanna is one of them. She’s a soft, scruffy little doodle mix with warm eyes and a gentle nature that makes you feel like she’s known you forever. Her life started in hardship, born out in the woods to a doodle mix mama dog owned by a homeless man who simply couldn’t give the puppies a future indoors.   At only 8 at the time weeks old, Vanna and her sister were rescued by a kind young woman who brought them home and loved them dearly for the last ten months. Unfortunately, life circumstances changed and she bravely chose what was best for Vanna rather than holding on when she could no longer afford the vet care and stability Vanna needs. Now Critter Cavalry Rescue will finish everything to prepare her for a bright new chapter — spay, vaccines, heartworm test, and microchip.   Vanna weighs 26 pounds and has that soft, fluffy coat that will absolutely glow with a little grooming. She’s happiest when she’s with other dogs and really doesn’t do well spending long days crated and alone. She wants activity, companionship, and people who include her in daily life.   Leash skills are still new to her, but she’s bright and willing, and she’ll blossom quickly with gentle guidance. A fenced yard or daily off-leash playtime is a must for this girl. She loves to stretch her legs and run, and while she will stay close, her recall comes from trust and bonding, which she gives wholeheartedly once she feels safe.   Vanna is loving, affectionate, and full of gratitude for every bit of kindness she’s ever been shown. Her previous mom saved her life — now we want to find the family who will cherish it forever.   Think you might be the one for Vanna? Please email Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrnewengland@gmail.com.   PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comJanuary 20, 2026, 9:56 pm

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Introducing Flash, the charming 10 year old poodle with a heart full of love. Weighing just 15 pounds, Flash has found comfort in a loving and patient foster home, where he's doing great! This cutie walks nicely on a leash and enjoys car rides and playing with toys. Flash’s ideal home would be with adults or older teens who can offer him a calm and predictable environment. Flash’s owner was male and, believe it or not, he is most comfortable with them. Young children, while wonderful, would be a bit too much for this sensitive soul.  Flash would do best as an only dog so that he can calmly acclimate to his home. He has been through quite a bit and will definitely need some patience and time.  Look at Flash enjoying the snow here: https://www.facebook.com/reel/2612209105830481 He’s neutered, microchipped, and current on his vaccinations, so he’s ready to start his next chapter. Could that be with you? Story
Meet Charlie! 🐾 Charlie is an adorable, spirited little guy who’s ready to find his forever home. He’s about 5 years old, weighs a petite 14 pounds, and is full of personality. His foster family adores his playful energy and zest for life. Charlie currently lives with both a small dog and a large dog and enjoys enthusiastic playtime. Because his play style can be a bit “all in,” he’d do best with another dog who matches his energy — or he’d also be perfectly happy being the one-and-only canine in the home. Charlie was found as a stray, so his past is unknown. Shelter life was stressful for him, and he arrived in foster care feeling fearful and unsure. Like many small dogs, Charlie is very communicative — he gives clear signals when he’s uncomfortable and, if those signals are missed, he may growl or become nippy. For this reason, we’re looking for a home with no children under 12 and an adopter who understands small-dog behavior and body language. The good news? Once Charlie feels safe and settled, his sweet side truly shines. In his foster home, he’s become a cuddly little companion who loves curling up in a lap and soaking up affection. He thrives in a calm, predictable environment and responds beautifully to positive reinforcement. Charlie enjoys chewing on bones, going for walks, and spending time with his people. He knows his basic commands, including sit and giving paw, and takes pride in showing them off. With the right match — a patient, experienced, and loving home — Charlie will be a loyal, affectionate, and endlessly charming companion. Charlie is neutered, up to date on all vaccinations, heartworm negative, housetrained, and microchipped. He’s ready to meet the family who will appreciate him for the wonderful little dog he is. To adopt Charlie, please complete our online dog application at https://www.sheltersurvivors.com/application.html and return it to sheltersurvivors@live.com. Or, go to sheltersurvivors.com, click on the home page, look for "Application" at the top of the home page, and complete the application. Hit the submit button once you have completed the application in its entirety. Please do NOT leave any blank spaces, if something is not applicable type in N/A. This will expedite the adoption process. NOTE: If you do not hear from us in 48 hours, please email us at sheltersurvivors@live.com. Adoption Fee: $325.00

Story
We are currently on a cross country transport that started from where we are located in Southen California to the east coast and decided to bring Sugar with us in hopes she finds a home along the way with a good family. If she speaks to your heart and you would love the opportunity to welcome her into your home reach out to us. It doesn't matter what state you are in we will come all the way to your home ♥️ Sugar is a Shih Tzu / Poodle mix who weighs 11.2 lbs and is fully grown at a healthy, balanced weight. She was born on 1/5/23 💕 She has the soft, straight-to-wavy Shih Tzu-style coat that will continue to grow out beautifully, and she is hypoallergenic. She is one of those dogs whose presence you feel the moment she’s near — gentle, observant, and quietly affectionate. Sugar is wonderful with other dogs, but she doesn’t rely on them for happiness. She is most fulfilled when she knows she belongs to her person. She enjoys companionship of all kinds and would do fine with another calm dog, but her heart truly lights up when she is the center of her human’s world. Her connection runs deep, and once that bond is formed, it is unwavering. She has lovely house manners and a naturally respectful demeanor in the home. Sugar is crate trained and, when it’s time for bed, will walk right into her crate on her own and sleep peacefully through the night. If given the choice, though, she would happily curl up with her person — laying her head on your chest, resting a paw in your hand, and quietly soaking in the closeness. She is incredibly intuitive and intelligent, often responding to your voice and emotions in ways that feel more like a conversation than training. Sugar is shy when first meeting new people and takes a little time to feel safe. She watches, listens, and moves at her own thoughtful pace. But once she trusts you, she is deeply loyal and devoted. When Sugar chooses you, she chooses you for life. She came to us after her family was forced to move into an apartment that did not allow pets. They loved her very much, but time and housing limitations made it impossible for them to keep her. Losing her family was understandably confusing and emotional for Sugar, and she was anxious when she first arrived. With patience, consistency, and love, she settled in and learned that she was safe again. Because of this, we are seeking a kind, gentle, and emotionally aware adopter — someone who understands that love and security matter deeply to a dog like Sugar. In return, she will love with her whole heart for the rest of her life. Sugar is house trained and goes outside to use the restroom every 3–4 hours as needed. She thrives on routine and does best when she knows what to expect from her day. She also understands puppy pads if that’s a preferred option in her next home. She is not a high-energy dog and naturally mirrors the energy of her person. A calmer, more low-key home would suit her beautifully, with occasional outings to keep her world full and enriched. She loves car rides and is always happy to be included in life’s little adventures. Leash walking is something she is still growing into, as it wasn’t used much before coming to us, but as her confidence continues to build, so will her enjoyment of walks. She is not a barker, but she will gently alert you if something unfamiliar catches her attention. Sugar does wonderfully with grooming. While we would have loved to preserve her coat, it had to be taken down due to matting that couldn’t be brushed out. It will grow back soft and beautiful in time — and until then, she looks especially adorable in sweaters and pajamas, which she wears very well 🙃 She is spayed, microchipped, current on vaccines, has had a dental cleaning and polish, and received a thorough exam with our vet, who has fully cleared her to find a home all her own. Her adoption fee is on our website at the bottom of her adoption listing at https://www.breadoflifek9refuge.org/post/sugar which helps cover her veterinary care, dental, months of care while with us, grooming, and training since being in our rescue ♥️ Sugar isn’t looking for just any home — she’s looking for her person. Someone who moves gently through life, who understands that trust is built through patience, consistency, and love. If you’re the kind of person who values quiet moments, shared routines, soft companionship, and a dog who truly sees you, Sugar will be your greatest gift. Once she feels safe in your heart, she will love you with a depth and devotion that never wavers. She will be your constant, your comfort, and your little shadow — choosing you every single day for the rest of her life.

Story
Abigail has had a whirlwind week and is ready for a new life. This sweet crusty matted old lady was discarded locally unable to see past her hair, tightly matted over her whole body. She was never spayed and had multiple mammary tumors that we had removed plus a spay and dental, and she’s healing nicely. The masses were a low grade cancer with no sign of spread right now, so she should just be monitored going forward for new lumps or metastasis down the road. But overall a good prognosis and we are hopeful she will have some quality years ahead of her. She’s very sweet, loves to eat, sleeps well cuddled in soft blankets, and howls like a wolf with excitement at feeding time. She’s 13lbs and some type of poodle/maltese type with long tall legs, and probably at least 10-12 years old. She doesn’t mind other small gentle dogs and settles into a home picking up a routine very quickly and not making waves. Email njwoof@cs.com to meet Abigail in Northern NJ Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.
