Story
Meet Scooter! I’m a 7‑year‑old, 25lb Havanese mix with a clean bill of health. I recently lost my owner & I’m still adjusting. I’m looking for a quiet home where I can be the only dog & soak up all the attention. I would do best with someone who works from home or who is home often. My adoption profile gets a lot of attention (because let’s face it, I’m adorable) but underneath my good looks, I’m an anxious guy that gets quite overwhelmed in new environments & around new people. It can take me several weeks to fully warm up in a new home. I need someone who is patient and experienced with skittish dogs like me & will give me the time and space I need to settle in. The anxiety meds I’m on as well as a few drops of Rescue Remedy that get added to my water every day are helping a lot.Affection & playtime are on my terms, especially in the beginning. But once you’ve earned my trust (and you’ll work hard for it), I’m a real sweetheart that will follow you around until it’s time to snuggle up for the night. I love to nap and lounge the day away and although I don’t require a whole lot of exercise, I do enjoy a couple daily walks. I also enjoy running zoomies around the yard and rough housing with my foster mom on the couch. I might be an older pooch but I still have plenty of energy and will need an adopter that can keep up.I’m a smart boy who’s treat motivated and I would benefit greatly from learning a few more commands or tricks to increase my confidence. Like most anxious dogs, I need a pack leader that is loving but firm, so I don’t regress in my behavior. I was recently trained to wait in my “spot” until the humans are done eating their meals, then I’m rewarded with a yummy treat. They were impressed with how quickly I caught on.I sleep soundly through the night (preferably next to you), and I’ll go potty outside as I’m supposed to. With an established routine, accidents are no issue. I get along fine with friendly dogs but I don’t care to engage much; I prefer to be near my humans. Cats are unknown but I’d probably just ignore them, too. Since smaller children make me nervous, older dog savvy kids only please. If you think you’ll be my perfect match, apply to meet me today!DATCP #483538

Story
Panther is being fostered in PA. My name is Panther and I want a home where I will have someone to cuddle me all the time! I will follow you around and show you just how much love I have to give. I live with a bunch of other dogs in my foster home and I like them all but if I have to be the only dog that you love, well, I'm fine with that too! My favorite thing in the world is Churro treats. My foster mom likes to hide medicine in them and she thinks I don't know it, but I don't care because Churro bites make everything yummy! I'm not a picky eater but when my foster mom puts some homemade food on top of my kibble, oh boy is that the good stuff! I gobble that down so fast! I like going out for a little while but I would rather be inside laying on the couch or a bed, even the floor. Sometimes it gets just too hot out there and I don't like that. I will walk for you on a leash but I would rather just run along with my foster mom through my fenced in yard. It's so much fun following her around. I've had a bit of a rough time, they just stole my left eye, I don't know what they plan to do with it, it's broken, but whatever. I don't even miss it a little bit. They also did some big surgery to my left ear. My foster mom calls it a TECA and the surgeon explained to me that it was a Total Ear Canal Ablation. I don't know what that means but I know they took all the yucky things out of my ear and now it feels so much better. They tell me I'm going to have the same thing done in my right ear. I can't wait, my right ear hurts so badly too! My foster mom said that they are waiting until they raise the money to do it. I don't know what money is, but I hope they raise it soon so I can feel all better! Right now I am not looking my prettiest, but I am healing every day and my fur will grow back good as new! My foster mom says the family that gets to live with me forever will be a very lucky family. I'm the best girl ever! BDRA has voted against the use of electrical fencing effective immediately.

Story
About Me: Name:  Hazel Breed (or best guess): Cavalier - Poodle Approximate Age: DOB 1/22/19 Gender: F Approximate Weight: 24 lb Adoption Fee: $495 Requirements: Loving, patient family, fenced yard and another dog is best Why In Rescue: puppy mill survivor Profile:   Hazel came from a commercial breeder/puppy farmer who was no longer going to use her for breeding.  She is a shy but friendly girl who is going to need some time to learn to be social with human. She is learning to trust and as she is with us more we will work on things like leash walking, but right now just getting her more socialized and use to living around people is what we work on. Dogs from commercial breeders are generally undersocialized (often very scared/shy/skittish) and probably never lived in a house.  They will need to learn things like how to walk on a leash, go up stairs, and what things like a television are.  They need a patient adopter who will give them the time they need to adjust and to learn to trust people.  Every baby step forward needs to be celebrated, and the dog needs to be accepted for who they are at each step.  Some dogs can adjust quickly and learn how to be a loved pet pretty easily.  Others can take a long time to even be comfortable with things like walking through the house and being in the same room as a person.  No matter how far and how fast the breeder dogs progress, they are wonderful dogs and deserve a great home after their life on the puppy farm.  A fence or at least a secure fenced in potty area is highly recommended for the dog's safety, and may be required for some dogs.  Another small dog in the house can also help many former breeders adjust faster to life in a home, and also may be required in some cases.  We do put the needs of the dog's first, so it is nothing personal if we determine a particular dog isn't suitable for your specific home and living situation. If considering adopting a former breeding dog, the following article is good to read to help you understand the special needs these dogs may have.  http://nowisconsinpuppymills.com/mill-survivors.html If interested in adoption, the first step is filling out the pre-adoption application at http://www.bichonrescues.com/pre-adoption-form-dog  If link isn't clickable, please copy/paste or visit http://www.bichonrescues.com.  Please note, filling out inquiry forms on Petfinder or Adoptapet and/or their application forms does not constitute an application for one of our dogs.  Priority in responding to inquires and applications is always to the applications filled out on our website, time constraints limit the number of other inquires we can reply to. We do our best to evaluate the dogs while they are with us, but they sometimes act different in the shelter environment than they do in a home.  Many times we do not know the actual breed/mix or age of the dog, in that case we use our best guess as to breed and age.   We are located in Mukwonago, WI.  Adopters must come to us, we do not ship our dogs.  Please do not apply for a dog until you are ready to adopt.  Once an application is approved you will be notified by email to make an appointment to meet the dog.  All dogs are seen by appointment only. The adoption fee through Bichon and Little Buddies Rescue is $495 for most adults and up to $650 for puppies which includes Wi State Sales Tax.  Included in this fee is your new companion who will be spayed/neutered, have a current Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (as required by state law), current on age appropriate vaccinations, heartworm tested (if old enough) and started on preventative, microchipped, and given a general wormer.  Other medical needs will also have been taken care of, such as dentals and treating ear infections.  To assist you and your new pet in adjusting to life together, you may chose to take an 8 week age appropriate obedience training course at For Pet's Sake Dog Training in Mukwonago, WI for $100 (up to $260 value).  You may opt to take Puppy Kindergarten, Adult Beginners, or Small Dogs Big Hearts.  You must register for the class within 90 days of adoption for the reduced fee.  For more information on the classes visit www.forpetssake.cc  More important information: ***We are a Wisconsin based rescue and do not ship our pets.  If you are considering adoption you must be willing to drive to meet and adopt the pet, as well as bring the pet back to us if the adoption doesn't work.  We adopt primarily in WI and IL, but will consider applicants in MN, IA, and MI.*** ***Please do not set up an appointment to meet the animals until you are ready to take your pet home.  If the meeting results in a match, you can often take the dog/cat home the same day or within a couple days if the medical care hasn't been completed.  We are not able to hold pets for adopters beyond this time.  Thanks for understanding.*** ***While we hope all of our adoptions lead to permanent homes for the animals we place, sometimes things just don't work out.  We do have a 30 day trial period.  For the first 30 days, if you or Bichon and Little Buddies decide that the adoption isn't a good match for either the humans or the pet, the adoption fee will be refunded minus $100 within 30 days of the return of the dog.  Bichon and Little Buddies also requires adopters to return the pet to us at any time that they are unable or unwilling to care for the animal anymore.*** ***We do not show dogs without an appointment.  The first step in adoption is filling out the pre-adoption application at http://www.bichonrescues.com/pre-adoption-form-dog  Please do not call/email until AFTER you have filled out an application.*** Bichon and Little Buddies is a State Licensed Rescue # 268555-DS September 3, 2026, 5:44 pm
