Story
Meet Marla!
For what may be the first time in her life, Marla gets to simply be a dog.
No more raising puppies. No more worrying about what comes next. Just a chance to discover toys, soft beds, walks, cuddles, and what it feels like to be loved simply for who she is.
Marla is an incredibly sweet, affectionate girl with a gentle heart and a deep love for people. She wants nothing more than to be close to her humans and quickly forms strong bonds with the people she trusts. If you're looking for a dog who will happily follow you from room to room and always want to be near you, Marla may be your perfect match.
Her foster describes her best:
"Marla is a sweet girl who is learning how to live in a house and how to just be a dog, not a momma."
Marla's Story
While her full history isn't known, it is believed that Marla was used for breeding in Mexico before eventually finding her way into rescue.
For much of her life, her focus may have been caring for others. Now it's finally her turn to be cared for.
Marla is adjusting beautifully to life in a home and is learning all the little things many dogs take for granted—relaxing on the couch, enjoying quiet evenings, going for walks, and building trusting relationships with people who love her.
Watching her discover these things has been incredibly rewarding.
Marla's Favorite Activities
Cuddling with her people
Quiet walks and neighborhood strolls
Sniffing and exploring
Watching TV together
Relaxing at home
Meeting new people
Going on adventures with her family
Spending time close to her humans
Quiet enrichment activities
One-on-one bonding time
Marla enjoys being included in daily life and would love a family that wants a true companion by their side.
What Marla Is Working On
Marla is still learning that the world is a safe place.
Her foster family is helping her work on:
Building confidence
Leash manners
Managing excitement during greetings
Becoming comfortable spending time alone
Continued crate training
Learning household routines
Because Marla loves her people so much, she can show some separation anxiety tendencies and occasionally struggles when left alone. She also has some crate anxiety but continues to make progress with a structured routine and positive reinforcement.
Like many intelligent dogs, she can occasionally display a little selective hearing when something more interesting captures her attention.
The wonderful thing about Marla is that she genuinely wants to connect with her people and is eager to learn.
Marla's Ideal Home
Marla would thrive in:
A calm and patient household
Families looking for a devoted companion
Active people who enjoy including their dog in daily activities
Families with children
Homes with calm dogs who enjoy coexisting
Marla would do best with dogs that are respectful and not overly playful. She enjoys canine companionship but doesn't necessarily need a wrestling partner.
Because of her strong prey drive, she would do best in a home without cats.
Why You'll Love Marla
Marla has a special kind of sweetness that is hard to describe.
She is affectionate, loving, gentle, and incredibly grateful for attention. She has the kind of personality that makes you want to root for her because you know she's discovering things she may have never experienced before.
Every day she becomes a little more confident.
Every day she learns a little more about what it means to simply be a cherished family dog.
And every day she proves just how much love she has to give.
If you're looking for a loyal companion who will stick by your side through life's adventures and quiet moments alike, Marla is ready to meet you.
