Story
Meet Ned!Ned came to us after being found as a stray, so much of his history is still a mystery. We estimate him to be around 2 years old, though that is our best guess.Breed-wise, Ned is a bit of a puzzle too. We believe he may have some Rough Collie in his mix, especially because of his distinctive long, slender nose that doesn’t always show well in photos. We also suspect there may be some Coonhound in there somewhere. Whatever his DNA says, it certainly created one very handsome and very sweet dog.Ned is incredibly well mannered and has what we can only describe as an old-soul personality. He is gentle, easygoing, and seems to take everything in stride. He knows some basic commands, loves meeting people, and truly does not seem to know a stranger. He will happily walk right up to someone new looking for attention and affection. The wonderful woman who found Ned cared for him for several weeks before he came to the shelter. During that time, he did great with her other dogs, children, and even her chickens! Cats are currently unknown since there were none in the home. Based on his gentle nature, we are hopeful he may do well with them too, but we will update his bio if we learn otherwise.Ned is one of those dogs who just seems easy to be around. Sweet, steady, friendly, and quietly charming, he is ready to trade his days as a stray for a home and family of his own.His adoption fee is $200 and this includes his neuter, vaccines, heartworm tested negative, flea and tick prevention, heartworm prevention, and a microchip that we register for you. Story
Meet our newest arrival, Lilith! ❤️🐾Lilith is a 6–7 year old Red Heeler who has spent her whole life being someone’s beloved companion. Unfortunately, her owner’s living situation changed, and now this sweet girl is looking for a new best friend to share the next chapter with. And whoever gets her is getting a GOOD one.Lilith is house trained, knows her basic commands, and is laidback, affectionate, and wonderfully easygoing. But don’t let that calm demeanor fool you when a toy comes out. This girl LOVES fetch and goes absolutely bananas for squeaky toys. 😂In her previous home, Lilith enjoyed outdoor fun, rides in the side-by-side, and then coming inside to enjoy the cushy life with her person. Basically, she appreciates a little adventure followed by the comforts of home. ❤️We’re told Lilith does well with other dogs. Cats are unknown right now, but we’ll give her some time to settle in before testing her with them.At 6–7 years old, Lilith is in that wonderful sweet spot: past the puppy nonsense, but still plenty ready for walks, fetch, adventures, and years of companionship. She didn’t expect to be starting over at this age. We’d love to make sure she doesn’t have to wait long. 🥹Learn more or apply at EffinghamCountyHumaneSociety.orgHer Adoption fee is $200 and she is spayed, current on vaccines, heartworm tested, on flea and tick and heartworm prevention, and microchipped.

Story
This handsome fella is Nick. He's a 2yr old Shepherd-Heeler mix who was an unclaimed stray that we pulled from a shelter to save his life. Nick is full of energy and playfulness. He's in school to learn good manners and commands, and is doing so well! Nick would be a great addition to an active family. He's a big personality with so much love to give! Could this be the dog for you?!Nick is neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, and currently receiving prevention for flea, tick and heartworm. If you're interested in welcoming Nick into your family, please submit an adoption application via our website, www.effinghamanimalrescue.com.

Story
If life had a volume knob, Radar would probably leave it turned all the way up...he just happens to experience the world a little differently.Radar is an almost 2-year-old Pit Bull/Heeler mix (our best guess), and his personality leans heavily toward the cattle dog side. He's smart, playful, energetic, and absolutely loves interacting with his people. Like many heelers, he uses his mouth to communicate when he's excited. It's not aggression. It's simply part of how he engages with the world, and with guidance and appropriate outlets, that instinct can be redirected into positive behaviors.Radar was born deaf, and because his previous family wasn't equipped to train a deaf dog, he's starting with a pretty blank slate. The one hand signal he does know is an open hand with fingers spread that means, "Settle down." The exciting part? He has so much potential. Deaf dogs are incredibly capable learners, and many thrive with hand signals, consistency, and positive reinforcement. Radar is simply looking for someone willing to teach him in a language he understands.Because of his unique needs, we're hoping to find an adopter with deaf dog experience or someone who has taken the time to learn about training and communicating with deaf dogs before bringing him home. We would also love to connect with rescues that specialize in cattle dogs or deaf dogs if they feel Radar would be a great fit for one of their programs. As for his personality? He's a happy-go-lucky guy who walked into the shelter ready to make friends. Radar is dog friendly and even had a canine best friend at the animal control facility we pulled him from. He also met the resident office cat and barely gave him a second thought. He enjoys people, loves attention, and has an infectious enthusiasm for life.Radar also enjoys kids, but because he can't hear and can get excited, we'd recommend a home with older children who can understand how to interact respectfully with a deaf dog.Radar doesn't need someone to feel sorry for him. He doesn't know he's any different. He just needs someone willing to meet him where he is, invest in him, and discover just how incredible deaf dogs can be. We have no doubt that, with the right person, Radar is going to make an amazing companion. To apply for Radar visit our website at EffinghamCountyHumaneSociety.org He comes fully vetted and his adoption fee is $200If you are a rescue organization that can help deaf dogs, please send us an email at 4paws@effinghamcountyhumanesociety.org
