Story
Meet Wapiti!Wapiti is a playful, affectionate coonhound/pointer mix with striking good looks and a personality to match. Weighing about 60 pounds and born around January 1, 2024, this young pup is ready to find his forever family. Named after the Shawnee word for white rump elk, Wapiti was found near Elk Creek Lakeand like his namesake, hes a graceful jumper. He can easily clear a 3-foot gate with ease, so a home with a 5-foot fence would be best. He would love to have a canine companion to run and play with in the yard. Wapiti is an active dog who would thrive with a family that enjoys walks, outdoor adventures, and playtime. Hes also a big fan of belly rubs and couch cuddles, striking a great balance of energy and affection. Smart and eager to please, hes learning his manners and already knows how to sit, come, and lay downhis version of lying down includes a slow, charming slide to the floor. He also has a distinct, endearing howl when he spots squirrels or rabbits. Wapiti gets along best with a submissive dog, as he can be a bit Alpha with toys and bones. He does well with cats in his foster home, though he may chase them when bored. He passed his first visit to doggie daycare with flying colors. While hes not yet a fan of car rides or being crated, his foster family is helping him build confidence through gentle desensitization. Like most young pups, Wapiti enjoys chewing, so a good supply of sturdy chew toys and natural chews is a must. Wapiti is neutered, microchipped, crate trained, and up to date on vaccines. If youre looking for a loyal, active companion with a gentle heart and a goofy grin, Wapiti may be the perfect match. Story
Helloooo, my name is Missy and I'm estimated to be about 6 years old. I am a sweet, loving girl that is willing to do whatever pleases my people! I would make the best girl for any family because I am so friendly! I am pretty flexible so I could adapt to a family with kiddos or chill with an older couple too! I am friendly with other dogs!Right now, I am looking for a forever family or a foster home! Unfortunately, I came into the shelter as heartworm positive and I am waiting to undergo my heartworm treatment. I am being prepped for treatment with my antibiotics and am now on monthly flea/tick prevention to avoid reinfection, but I am to remain low activity as I go through this treatment. It takes a toll on my body, so my home must follow through with strict exercise restrictions (using crates and taking me on short, leashed walks) to prevent me from getting fatal blood clots. My heartworm is not contagious to other pets, so I can hang out with your current dogs if you have them, but I must not rough house with them. Don't worry! My heartworm treatment and any medication I need will be provided by the shelter! That is not any cost to my family or foster family! If you have any questions, please reach out and ask questions! My staff will be happy to see if you would be a good foster/adoptive home for me while I go through my treatment and recovery process. Since I am not being fixed until after my treatment is completely finished (this could be 3-4 months from now), I cannot go into a home with unfixed animals or be exposed to any unfixed animals. The last thing I need my body to go through is pregnancy and my shelter is overrun already.Give the shelter a call at (574) 267-3008 or email them at info@awlwarsaw.com if you have any questions about me! If not, stop by the shelter at 1048 S 325 E in Pierceton, IN 46562 to look at me! No appointments necessary!
