Story
Striking oil worked well for the Beverly Hillbillies and now you can take a bit of that good fortune into your home. It starts with taking a quick look that will turn into a long stare. These precious sweethearts deserve center stage. These 6-month-old coonhound mix pups are all in the same litter and all looking for their forever home. Welcoming a best friend is even better than discovering oil. Bodine tips the scales at 27 pounds and is expected to be a large size dog weighing over 60 pounds when fully grown. Bodine is ready to be welcomed home and eager for a fixing of vittles. He prides himself on being a friendly dude and easily making friends. He does well with other dogs, children and adults. He is excited about his future prospects with gaining friends. Bodine has not met a cat since coming into rescue so we do not know if he would be acceptable in having a cat as a friend. He is looking forward a bunch of adventures, lots of cuddle time and of course oodles of socialization. He is working hard on his skills of house, crate and leash training. He is working hard and making that a goal for himself.Texas tea was a stroke of good luck for the Clampetts, and their lives were changed with no looking backwards. Bodine can also embrace that journey for himself with finding the luxury of a loving home that will be everything he needs and more. * When considering adoption, keep in mind that dogs thrive on structure and routine. They adjust much better when their owners are committed to providing consistency and stability. The adoption fee for Bodine is $500. That includes the cost of spaying/neutering, up to date vaccinations, foster care, rescue and transportation fees. To get the ball rolling, head over to our Adoption Application and submit your application today. A Dog Star representative will contact you within 24 hours. To speed up the process, contact your vet and give them permission to speak with us.If you do not get a response within 24 hours, check your spam folder.May 2, 2026, 6:37 am

Story
If you like BIG hounds, meet Boone! This TALL Coonhound boy weighed 64 lbs at rescue in late March but is gaining fast and will likely be close to 80 lbs once at a healthy weight. He is 3-4 years old and such a handsome fella. Boone was rescued from a bread warehouse in rural North Louisiana. He was found hardly able to move with bleeding paw pads and an injured mouth. Despite being in pain, Boone was friendly and gentle, happily snacking on bread the workers brought out for him until a local rescuer arrived to help him. Boone went straight to the vet, and we learned that he had 3 broken teeth, including 1 canine tooth, and a hole going from his gums up onto his nasal cavity... poor sweet boy! We are not sure what trauma he endured for such an injury, but he had surgery to remove his broken teeth and repair the hole, and he is fully recovered and eating like a horse! Boone is fostered with 3 elderly Beagles, and he has been very sweet and easy with them. When he first moved to foster care, he was a little too interested in their cats, but he is doing much better and now mostly ignores them. Boone crates like a dream. He loves his kennel (a giant 46" one since he is so tall) and happily goes in at bedtime and when his foster mom has to leave home. He is quiet and sleeps through the night. He is learning about housetraining and gets better every day. He has never had a #2 accident but does wear a male diaper at times since he was just neutered upon being rescued. He can be strong on leash but is learning not to pull. Boone is gentle when taking treats and at mealtimes but gets very excited for "people food" and will try to climb in your lap to share a bite. His foster family is working with Boone on this and basic house manners and he is eager to please. He loves car rides and loads up like a pro. Typical of most hounds, Boone will need a securely fenced yard with a tall fence. We recommend that all hounds be supervised when outside even in a fenced yard and never allowed to roam free off leash... they just can't help but follow their noses. Boone has never gotten out of his foster family's yard, but he can hop over a baby gate with ease. He has not been destructive but would "counter surf" if given the chance. Boone is very quiet for a hound. He does have the goofy, loveable personality true to his Coonhound nature. He would probably do best in a home that knows and loves hounds. He is a STUNNING boy that is adapting well to family life. He will make someone a wonderful companion. Boone is neutered, microchipped, fully vaccinated, heartworm negative and current on heartworm/flea/tick prevention and deworming. Boone is currently in foster care in North Louisiana, but we welcome out of state adoptions. We have an amazing transport that delivers all along the East Coast... PA, NJ, CT, NY, VT. PAWS of NE LA was formed back in 2003, and we have been sending our special Southern dogs to wonderful homes up North since 2010.
