Looking for a bluetick coonhound? Gracie is a beautiful hound girl originally from Virginia. She gets along with other dogs and would love to live with a hound companion since that's what she's accustomed to. Gracie is housebroken, sleeps nicely in her crate, and walks well on a leash. She knows some commands and is a fast learner who will benefit from continued training. She is more praise-driven than food-driven. She loves to play with her toys and is playful with other dogs. She's also a great snuggler and loves to roll around on the sofa inviting belly rubs. Gracie probably had one original owner who she loved and trusted. She likes a slow introduction to new people and places, but she does settle in easily. Gracie has been in several foster homes already but had to leave one due to travel schedules and the other due to her prey drive around the cats - so no cats please. Gracie is about 2.5 yrs old and weighs 57 lbs. She is available for visits south of Boston. If you’d like to apply to adopt, please submit an application using the link below. Meet Jax! Jax is a lovable, cuddly boy with a heart as big as his paws. This gentle giant adores being close to his people—whether that means curling up to sleep beside you at night or happily relaxing in his crate while you’re away. One of his favorite things in the world is going for car rides, especially if they end with treats… which brings us to another of Jax’s true loves: food! Treats and mealtime make him extra happy, though he does have a funny (and mischievous) habit of snacking on paper if left alone, so a little supervision goes a long way. Jax is playful and fun, with a big love for frisbees, squeaky toys, and balls. He’s lived with children in the past and has shown himself to be incredibly gentle and sweet, making him a wonderful family companion. If you’re looking for a loyal, affectionate dog who’s equal parts cuddle buddy and playful pal, Jax might just be your perfect match. Ready to Adopt? You have two options: #1- VISIT IN PERSON Come during our open adoption hours: Tuesday - Saturday,12:30 - 3:00pm. You’ll be able to meet available dogs in the shelter. (Dogs in foster care are not available for in-person visits.) #2- ADOPT REMOTELY OR PLACE A 24-HOUR HOLD** If you’re ready to adopt without meeting the dog first, or you’d like to place a non-refundable $25 hold to reserve a dog for 24 hours, just call or email us: (413) 781-4000 x 1 springfield@dakinhumane.org. We are often helping other clients when you call, but we return voicemails and emails within 24 hours. **Holds are not available for puppies under six months, on Saturdays, or during adoption events. -------------------------------------------- All adult dog adoption fees include; -spay/neuter -rabies and kennel cough vaccinations - heartworm test -current parvo/distemper vaccines (may need additional boosters with your veterinarian) -microchip implanted & registered to adopter -treatment of fleas & ticks -veterinary exam and health certificate at Dakin -free vet exam within 30 days of adoption with participating veterinarians Most pets have also received other medical care while with us. Your veterinarian may recommend additional health care for your pet.

Looking for a big, lovable, playful puppy? Meet Oakley! He's an 11 month old, 75 lb. Coonhound/Great Pyrenees mix. Oakley was well-cared for by his original owner in Virginia who could not keep him and has been in a Massachusetts foster home for the last month. He's housebroken and knows how to use a doggie door. Oakley gets along with the other 3 dogs in the household but would do best with a canine companion of medium or large size and similar energy level - he loves to play! Oakley learns quickly and will benefit from continued training. He already knows 'Sit', 'Wait', and 'Up'. He rides well in the car and walks well on a leash. He tolerates a crate for short periods of time but would not do well being crated all day. He sleeps on his bed in the foster's room. Oakley is affectionate and engaging and just likes to hang out with his people when he's not on the move. True to his Great Pyrenees breeding, Oakley will alert to visitors or intruders and would make a good guard dog. Oakley is available for visits northwest of Boston. Annie is a 7 year old coonhound who was originally adopted in 2022. Due to a move and change in the family's situation, Annie needs a new home. Annie is a very sweet dog who loves her people and loves her tennis ball almost as much. She has done well living with other dogs these last couple of years but would also be fine as an only pet or with one companion. She eagerly meets new friends at the dog park and gets along with males and females. Annie is crate-trained and loves to curl up in a ball on her bed but she would prefer to sleep with her humans if permitted. Annie is a high-energy dog and requires daily exercise. She will tirelessly play fetch and loves doing so as much as she likes her walks in the park. She would be a great running companion. Annie is vocal when she anticipates an outing or when playing ball. Meet Penny! Penny is a spirited six-year-old Coonhound Mix currently living in Cincinnati, OH, who is equal parts playful, loyal, and affectionate. Wrapped in a sleek black coat with soulful eyes that will melt your heart, Penny is the kind of companion who will always be by your side—whether on a long walk, playing a game of tug-of-war, or curled up next to you on the couch. Penny thrives on routine, loves her daily walks, and is always up for an adventure (as long as she has a fenced yard to keep her from roaming too far!). She’s incredibly smart and food-motivated, making her eager to learn new tricks—she already knows sit, down, spin, and place, and is working on mastering stay and recall. She has a wonderfully goofy personality and isn’t shy about showing affection, often giving her signature "dog hug" headbutts or gazing at you with complete devotion. Because Penny prefers to have all the attention to herself, she would do best as the only pet in a calm, structured home. She can feel nervous around other dogs and small children, so she’s looking for an adopter who understands her needs and will provide a patient, loving environment. She is crate-trained, house-trained, and comfortable being left alone for short periods, though she’ll always be happiest when she’s with her person. Penny does have some anxiety, particularly around storms and the vet, but she’s a resilient girl who just needs reassurance in those moments. Penny is already spayed, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, and on allergy medication to keep her feeling her best.
