Story
LAYLA - 7 years old, 50 pounds, house trained, good with kids she knows, good with dogs she knows, proper introductions   Layla arrived at VBACAC after her family, the only one she knew, was moving to a smaller apartment.   She is nervous right now and although I got her to walk out with me, she didn't seem to want to interact too much.   Time and attention will help this pretty coonhound girl settle in a new home.   Layla is otherwise known as a sweet girl who enjoys walks and stealing things from the countertops. She might also have an accident or two when she gets excited. Just something to keep in mind. Patience. Understanding.   Her playful side will come out when she's comfortable and settled in. At that time, you might want to have plenty of plush or squeaky toys around just for her.   Layla needs proper introductions to people and other animals.  Take your time! Not everyone has to pet her.   Layla barks when she is nervous, when she sees people she doesn't know, and during thunderstorms.   Layla is currently in a back kennel. If you come to meet her and don't see her, please just ask.   From Layla's previous home, " Layla is known for her exceptional ability to get along with everyone, despite occasionally being a bit loud. Her kind and playful nature makes her a delightful companion for both kids and adults. Furthermore, she possesses a protective instinct that allows her to recognize potential dangers and alert those around her. We have every confidence that Layla will settle into a new family effortlessly, where she will receive and reciprocate love and affection." Story
HAPPY, ACTIVE, LOVES TO RELAX, CUDDLER, AFFECTIONATE   CHARLIE - 8 years old, 70 pounds, house trained, good with kids & dogs.    Charlie was surrendered with his sister, Peach, when their family was moving and couldn't take them along.    After spending his whole life with one family, he is now forced to move on.   He is said to be sweet and cuddly (like his sis) and that he loves the company of kiddos and other dogs.   We tested Charlie in our shelter playgroup and noticed he was not enjoying the roughhousing from some other dogs.  He corrected them when necessary.  He might need some time getting used to other dogs. Slow and proper introductions are important as well as supervision.   Charlie sat on command and always defaulted to a sit when he saw treats were involved.    He has a fantastic and warm smile to boot!   Charlie can be trusted roaming free in the home when left alone and enjoys going on car rides.    Again like his sister, Charlie is used to sleeping in the bed with his humans. Adorable!   Charlie is currently in a back kennel so just come in and ask to meet him!   Peach and Charlie can be adopted separately or together.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.October 1, 2025, 9:28 am
