She likes to talk, play with other pups and be hugged by anyone! She would be a great adventure companion for any family. She has done well on a leash and in a car. Meet Gilbert! A sweet little hound mix who is still just a baby, yet somehow has already found himself in a place that is completely unfamiliar to him. He didn’t ask for this, and he certainly didn’t do anything to deserve it. But if Gilbert is confused or worried about his circumstances, he sure isn’t letting it show! Instead, he’s choosing to be the goofiest, cutest, happiest little hound puppy he can be. That adorable face, those floppy ears, and that puppy personality make it pretty impossible not to fall completely in love with him. Gilbert is still a puppy, so he’ll need someone willing to patiently teach him all about being a dog, house manners, good puppy habits, and everything else that comes with growing up. Put a hand on Aardvark and she leans her whole side into your legs and stays there for as long as you keep scratching. She is about a year old, black with tan legs and a tan face, dark markings around her eyes and ears that fold over at the tips. She is long legged and lean and still growing into all of it. Aardvark came to us as a stray, so we do not know anything about the life she had before, but she appears to be house trained. Other dogs are the easy part of Aardvark. She loves them, and she would be happy in a home that already has a dog in it or with someone who takes her out where there are other dogs to see. She is sweet with people too, and she is the kind of dog who would rather be next to you than across the room. A few honest things before you apply. When Aardvark first spots another dog she gets very excited and pulls hard on the leash to get to them, so she is looking for a home that will keep going with her leash training. Coming in as a stray means we have no history for her with children or with cats, so we cannot tell you how she would do living with either. We prefer to schedule appointments for meet and greets to make sure someone is available to spend time with you. The shelter is open Monday through Friday, 12pm to 4pm, and appointments outside of those hours may be available based on volunteer availability.
