Story
Ruby is a 7-year-old Coonhound who has endured more in six years than most of us manage in a lifetime. She came to us from an overcrowded rural shelter, thin as a whisper and trembling with fear, but she was still trying to connect with people. She nosed toward us with quiet courage and a tail that clearly wanted to believe the world might finally cut her a break.A lot of dogs would have shut down completely after everything she had experienced. Ruby chose trust instead. She closed her eyes, leaned into our hands, and sighed like somebody had finally shown up when she needed them most. It was the kind of moment that sneaks past your defenses and settles directly into your heart.Ruby loves children, loves other dogs, and loves simply being near her people. She recently returned from foster care, where she proved herself to be a wonderful family dog with excellent manners and an impressive talent for finding joy in ordinary moments. If you walk into a room feeling stressed, Ruby will look at you like she has been assigned by management to help with that situation. Before Ruby went into foster care, she received a devastating diagnosis: bone cancer in her lower jaw. Surgery is not an option, and at first we feared Ruby only had months left. But Ruby apparently did not receive that memo. The cancer slowed dramatically. She is not in pain, and she is not limited. What began as preparing for goodbye transformed into planning for happy years ahead. Somewhere along the way, this dog decided she was not finished living yet.Now Ruby just needs one more thing to complete the miracle -- a forever home. You can meet Ruby at Animal Aid Society, located at 80 Butler Farm Road in Hampton. Visiting hours are from 9am to noon every day, including weekends and holidays.Interested? Come for a visit any day of the week - 365 days a year between 9am - 12pm. Hope to see you soon!PLEASE NOTE: Animal Aid Society observes a 40 mile adoption radius to facilitate post adoption support and follow ups.

To learn more about Silas, please get in touch with dogs@lostdogrescue.org Silas will be at one of our adoption events this weekend! Visit our event page (https://www.lostdogrescue.org/events/) to see which one—event listings are usually updated on Fridays with attending dogs. Meet the ever-handsome, Silas! This hound boy is an energetic and joyous young man looking to blossom in a forever home. His looks are really impressive, with classic hound coloring, expressive facial movements, and a tongue that may be larger than his face! And that’s not to discount his deep hazel eyes, which give him just that little bit of extra cuteness. Silas is around 2 years old, making him fully grown, but still maturing. He is still finding his way and would benefit from structure and routine while he discovers what the world has to offer. He has already mastered how to walk with his nose to the ground, not giving up on any interesting smells. He has also experienced jogging and has done well in the car. His nose will often work overtime, which leads him to have a bit of a refined taste. Silas has not gone for all treats, but has especially enjoyed cheese and peanut butter. So, if you’re in the market for a devilishly handsome hound (with peanut butter and cheese readily available), you may have just found your match! Don’t miss out, and adopt Silas ASAP!
