Story
Every life is filled with highs and lows, but mine? Mostly lows. I don't mean that in a negative way. I just mean that, with these little legs, I live my life six inches off the ground. My name is Charlie, but Charlie is a really common name and I'm not the only Charlie in this shelter, so they usually call me "Low-Rider Charlie" or "Long-Short Charlie." I occasionally get "Old Man Charlie" even though, at only seven years old, I'm literally the youngest Charlie here. I just have geezer vibes. That's another "low" in my life: I'm very low-key. I don't do anything fast. I'm one heck of a couch potato (I'm even potato-shaped- 52 lb.) Oh, you want to go for a walk? Well, you have fun with that. I'll stay home and make sure this dog bed doesn't fly away. I can be convinced to go for a mosey now and then, but you might have to bribe me with the promise of a snack and a bird watching break in the middle. So come and get me. Let's do nothing together. It's my favorite activity. If interested please visit odas.org/canine and someone will contact you to schedule your visit.

Story
Meet Sheila! She spent her early days in a crowded home with many canine roommates but little one on one attention. Because of this, the big wide world can feel a bit overwhelming right now. She is learning how to trust and deserves an opportunity to soak up the quiet comforts of life. She is still learning that toys are fun, pottying is done outside, and leashes mean exciting adventures. She will need a patient family who can help her build confidence at her own pace. New sights and sounds can startle her so she is considered a flight risk. If you have a big heart for a sweet girl who just needs a chance to shine, please come meet Sheila today!Sheila is two years old and weighs 17 pounds. All pets are microchipped, up to date on vaccines, and will be altered prior to adoption. If you are interested in meeting a dog, please stop by the shelter during open hours. Dogs may be in a foster home, therefore scheduling an appointment is recommended. If you have an existing dog at home, we recommend bringing it along to meet your possible new family member.helpingstrays.org

Story
Meet Hondo! If you’re looking for a four legged best friend who is ready to make you the center of his universe, meet Hondo!Hondo is a handsome Corgi/Australian Shepherd mix with the best of both breeds. He’s built like your typical Corgi; long, low, and sturdy. With the soft, fuzzy coat of an Aussie. And this boy has plenty of personality to match his adorable looks!Hondo is a high energy, adventure loving dog who wants to go wherever you go. He loves hiking, running alongside the four wheeler, exploring, and being included in whatever his person is doing. Despite his enthusiasm for adventure, Hondo is wonderfully polite in public and is a well mannered passenger on long car rides. He’s also a social guy! Hondo does well with dogs, cats, and livestock, making him a great fit for an active home with other animals. He is potty trained and can happily spend the workday relaxing in his kennel, where he is content and polite.Hondo’s dream home is definitely in the country. He thrives on a property where he has room to stretch his legs, explore, and burn off some of that Aussie Corgi energy. He has a good recall and does well coming when called. Because of his energy level and need for activity, apartment living would not be a good fit for Hondo. When Hondo gets excited about an activity, he can be a little vocal; he has opinions, after all! But once he’s inside and settled, he generally knows how to use his inside voice and enjoys being a good house companion.Hondo isn’t looking for a life of sitting on the sidelines. He wants a person or family who will include him in the adventure, give him room to run, and make him feel like their very best friend. If you’re ready for a loyal, energetic, fun loving companion who wants to be by your side wherever life takes you, Hondo is ready to meet you! Hondo is 10 months old and weighs 30 pounds. All pets are microchipped, up to date on vaccines, and will be altered prior to adoption. If you are interested in meeting a dog, please stop by the shelter during open hours. Dogs may be in a foster home, therefore scheduling an appointment is recommended. Story
Juno is a sweet, gentle 5-year-old Pembroke Welsh Corgi who came to us as a breeder release/puppy-mill-type dog after spending most of her life breeding with very limited exposure to normal family life. She is now learning what it means to feel safe and loved, and she has made wonderful progress. Once Juno trusts you, she is affectionate, loving and bonds deeply with her person. Only rehoming because she does not like my resident dogBecause of her past, Juno is still fearful of unfamiliar people and situations, particularly men, and needs patience and time to adjust. She is about 90% potty trained and does well with an X-pen but does not like a crate.Juno needs a quiet, female-led adult home where she can be the ONLY DOG. She is good with cats. A home without children is best because she is still afraid of them—not aggressive. Juno needs a patient woman who will let her build trust at her own pace. In the right home, this special little girl has so much love to give.

Poor Bennie. He has been adopted out twice now....neither return his fault, just life circumstances. He is now a senior seeking a quiet loving home for the rest of his life. Are you the one?
