Please make sure to read the narrative below our pet's photos as you will find a description of our pet with all we know about them, our adoption fee info, and you will find the link to do our online Adoption Application which is the first step in our Adoption Process!     Please read ALL below where you will find answers about the pet, our adoption fees and how to do our adoption application!   Pet Description:  Pinto is a one-year old male, only about 25 lbs and we were told Dachshund/Pit.  He is a short-legged boy that is good with male and female dogs, cats and children.  His owner surrendered him as didn't have enough time for him, then he was adopted and returned as he is a high energy fella and will do best with an active owner as he does love to romp and romp some more.  Loves butt scratches & is super sweet.  Does know how to use a doggy door but is not housetrained.   DOG ADOPTION FEE is $100. This Adoption fee includes: mandatory spay/neuter which will be done before you can take your dog or puppy home with you; basic canine immunizations (DHPP-CPV & Bordatella Intranasal); de-wormings; one-year rabies vaccination if old enough; heartworm test if over five months old; microchip from 24-Pet Watch; certificate for free health examination at your participating veterinarian; and a goodie bag chocked full of information, toys, and more.  (If a dog is sponsored or has a waived or lower fee, that info will be provided at the point of adoption to the approved adopter).   The first step is to our Adoption Application here:  https://elmorehumane.org/adoption-application-online-form2.html .   IMPORTANT – we respond to your emailed applications and queries via email back to you.  Please make sure you have either added our email  (hselco@bellsouth.net)  to your contact list or that you routinely check your SPAM folder for our response just to be safe. Story
Hugo loves going on walks, exploring the woods, and being chased at the park. He is quite the runner and likes going fast! Equally so, he is the greatest cuddle buddy and napping partner. He will follow you wherever you go. He gets attached to his person and is very loving to them and will be very protective of his person. Hugo is a black and tan dachshund mix. His exact age is unknown but he is roughly 10 years old. Due to my schedule he sadly has not received the time/attention and play he needs and deserves.

Story
Tempted as you may be to call Bowen a chunky couch potato, he prefers "cute lil' stinker". Lives in denial about his love for belly rubs, but deep down, he revels in the affection. Dachshund/ Jack Russell mix? Or something else entirely, but we do know short and stout never looked so good, especially when it comes with adorable little teefies. He moonlights as a backyard sniffing safari guide to the doggies in his foster home and reigns supreme as the Tug-of-War Titan. Toys? Treats? Don't even get us started! Kids aren't for him, no judgement, just his preference. Meet him, stare deep into those peepers and exchange adoption vows. We are happy to officiate! Est. birthdate is 11/05/2016, vaccinated, neutered, micro chipped. Adoption fee $200.00.

Story
Meet Luca and his brother Levi — two nub-tailed nuggets with legs stubby enough and coats long enough that they just might be mistaken for blonde corgis.  But these 2- to 3-month-old brothers are probably a mix of breeds. They were found wandering in rural Alabama with their mama — who weighs about 20 lbs and looks like a rat terrier/dachshund mix.  The family was dumped outside right before the recent freeze, and sadly, the pups were likely never shown any human affection prior to coming to rescue. Levi and Luca were very shy when they arrived at their foster home. They immediately loved the other dogs, but it took a few days to learn to trust the humans.  Levi was the first to warm up, but Luca was a close second. Luca now loves climbing in his foster mom’s lap while brother Levi is playing with the older dogs. Luca is the slightly smaller brother and an absolute sweetheart who often chooses to be with his human over playtime. The boys have gone from hiding in their own puppy pile to napping fully splayed out on their backs and waiting for belly rubs.  Luca will be a great small to medium size when fully grown. Our guess would be anywhere from 25 to 40 lbs.  He’s doing great with potty training and absolutely loves his crate.  We would love to find Luca a forever home with a confident, friendly dog that could set a good example and be a best friend, but we’re open to human-only homes if the humans are willing to give Luca a little time to warm up. We don’t think it’ll take long! If interested in adopting one of our available pets, please fill out an application at https://www.cognitoforms.com/DixieGirl1/PetAdoptionApplicationForm2 Most of our are pets are fostered in Southern foster homes and are posted for adoption once they are completely vetted and ready to travel. Our pets are adoptable in Alabama and New England States. Our adoption fee includes transport fee, spay/neuter, current vaccinations, deworming, heart worm test for animals over 7 months old, all necessary vetting and an interstate health certificate. Once an application is received, our team is happy to answer all of your questions and send additional pictures and videos. Thank you for thinking rescue!
