Story
Rusty is a very fine and distinguished dog. He was rescued from Decatur Animal Services by my MIL. He has been an excellent companion for her the past 4 years. His age seems to be 5-6 YO. Our MIL has been placed in a nursing home and Rusty was unable to follow. He visits the nursing home every Sunday and is a crowd pleaser due to his laid back personality and demeanor. He loves front porch sitting, riding shot gun, naps and long walks. He does love toys and plays well with other dogs. Please note that he came to us as a dog that was the center of attention not only to my MIL but to the other elderly apartment clients. He was spoiled. Perfect match is someone who is somewhat active but knows how to relax. Willing to travel to help Rusty find his perfect person.

Story
🐾 Meet Cody! 🐾 Age: 4 years Weight: 14 lbs Breed: Dachshund 🧠 Personality Snapshot Cody is a shy guy at first and needs 3–4 days to decompress and feel safe with new people. Once he warms up, he flips a switch — suddenly he’s your shadow, your cuddle buddy, and your biggest fan. When settled in, he’s funny, outgoing, and friendly, and he truly enjoys playing with other dogs of all sizes. 🐶 Cute Quirks Professional blanket tunnel engineer Sits in chairs like a tiny human Will happily hide inside a full laundry basket like it’s his personal fort 😬 Not-So-Great Habits Peeing when excited (improving with confidence and routine) 🎓 Training & Manners Leash: Good on leash with a harness Dog Door: Knows how to use it Crate: Loves it and does great House Trained: Mostly Door Dasher: No Jumper: Yes — only when excited Counter Surfer: Absolutely not (his legs are way too short) ⚡ Energy Level Medium — playful but also very happy to lounge and snuggle 🍖 Motivation Food motivated (easy to train!) 🐕 Social Skills Dogs: Great with dogs once he warms up New People: Very shy at first; needs time and patience Kids: No small children 🚗 Car Manners A little nervous, but overall does well ❤️ Favorite Things Blankets, couches, and being as close to his person as physically possible 🏡 Best Home Scenario A calm, quiet home with another playful dog or two, minimal visitors, no small children, and adopters willing to give him the time he needs to feel safe. 🌳 Fence Requirement A fenced yard is required 🐾 Adoption Info: All of our animals are fully vetted, which includes spay/neuter, up to date on vaccines, wormed, heartworm tested and treated if necessary, up to date on flea/tick/heartworm prevention, and microchipped prior to adoption. Our requirements are non-negotiable and include the following: All current pets in the home must be spayed or neutered if over 6 months of age, unless there is a documented medical exemption with veterinary confirmation. All current dogs must be up to date on Rabies and Distemper/Parvo (DHPP) vaccinations. All current dogs must be on consistent, consecutive heartworm prevention. Past dogs listed on the application must also show a consecutive history of heartworm prevention. To start the adoption process, please fill out our application here: 👉 https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/WAG/Dog Please also take a moment to read our requirements located in the application. Please note: The dog you’re applying for might already have a meet-and-greet scheduled, be on a trial with another family, or has been offered to another rescue within our network. Don’t worry though — we’re always happy to help you find another great match if that happens! Our goal is to make sure every pup ends up in the best home for their needs (and yours too!).

Story
Meet Candy! 🍬 Age: 1.5 years • Weight: 14 lbs • Breed: Dachshund / Chi mix Candy may be shy at first, but once she settles in, she’s a whole vibe! Her coloring comes from her dachshund side, while her long legs are pure Chi energy. She has a big, loving personality, is playful, and bonds hard with her people. She loves other dogs, and a home with another dog her size and a secure fenced yard is required — a companion her size will help her feel confident and playful. Cute Quirk: Candy is crazy about her tennis balls and will play with them by herself, running and hopping like a tiny deer. 🐾 Not-So-Great Habits: She’s still working on leash training and may bark or howl when someone comes home. She jumps when excited but is learning to calm down. Training Snapshot: Leash Manners: Work in progress; can be shy and may hide in her crate during harness time. House Trained: Yes! No accidents. Crate Trained: Yes, very good — her crate is her safe space. Dog Door Trained: Yes! She knows exactly how to use it. Door Dasher: Will try to be first out, but no other attempts to escape. Jumper: Excited, but manageable with guidance. Car Manners: Nervous, but does well in a travel crate. Motivation: Food, toys, praise — she loves all rewards! Personality & Best Home: Candy is shy with new people and may hide or bark at first. She needs a patient family willing to give her time to feel safe. A home with another dog her size and a secure fenced yard is required. Once she settles in, Candy is playful, affectionate, and the happiest girl you could imagine. She loves snuggling, playing, and following her person everywhere — she’s a total shadow once she trusts you. 💗 Requirements: 🐾 Another dog in the home (required!) 🐾 Securely fenced yard (required!) 🐾 Patient family to give her time and love 🐾 Adoption Info: All of our animals are fully vetted, which includes spay/neuter, up to date on vaccines, wormed, heartworm tested and treated if necessary, up to date on flea/tick/heartworm prevention, and microchipped prior to adoption. Our requirements are non-negotiable and include the following: All current pets in the home must be spayed or neutered if over 6 months of age, unless there is a documented medical exemption with veterinary confirmation. Story
🐾 BISCUIT 🐾 Small dog. Big couch energy. Age: 4 years Weight: 17 lbs Breed: Dachshund Mix 💬 The Vibe Biscuit is a quiet, sensitive soul who thrives in calm, predictable environments. He’s not flashy or demanding — he just wants a soft place to land and someone who understands that confidence comes with time. 🛋️ Biscuit’s Signature Move Claiming the couch like he pays rent. Cozy spots are his love language. 🧠 What Biscuit Is Learning Responds to “crate” / “kennel” Appears to be house trained Building confidence with handling, routines, and new experiences 🐕 Day-to-Day Details Leash: ❌ Very fearful — not leash-ready yet Energy Level: 💤 Low Motivation: 🍗 Food House Training: ✅ Believed to be house trained Crate: ⚖️ Tolerates it (goes in when asked, but still nervous) 🐶 Dog & People Notes With Dogs: Biscuit loves other dogs and is very much the lowest on the totem pole. He shows affection through enthusiastic face licking, which not all dogs appreciate. Because of this, he would do best with a dog tolerant of his overly friendly style. Once comfortable, we believe he would enjoy playing with a dog his own size. He’s still learning canine social cues and isn’t quite fluent in “dude, get outta my face.” With New People: Fine overall, but slow to approach. Gentle introductions work best. 🚪 Manners Check Door Dasher: ⚠️ Could be if given the chance Jumping: ⚠️ Occasionally when excited Counter Surfing: ❌ No — but very curious about your food 🚗 On the Road Car rides make him nervous. He seeks comfort by sitting in a lap. 🏡 Best Home Match A low-chaos, quieter home with patient humans who understand shy dogs. Biscuit would do best where routines are consistent and expectations are gentle. 🚧 Fence Requirement Secure physical fence required — leash walks are not his comfort zone right now. 🐾 Adoption Info: All of our animals are fully vetted, which includes spay/neuter, up to date on vaccines, wormed, heartworm tested and treated if necessary, up to date on flea/tick/heartworm prevention, and microchipped prior to adoption. Our requirements are non-negotiable and include the following: All current pets in the home must be spayed or neutered if over 6 months of age, unless there is a documented medical exemption with veterinary confirmation.
