Story
Hello animal lovers! I’m am here because my dear Winston needs a new home. We lost our home in a fire recently and I am in transitioning a securing a home for us. In the meantime friends have been helping with caring and watching Winston. But they are no longer able to do so as of Tuesday April 19, 2026. I do not want to have to surrender my Winston to a shelter but if no one is able to care for him that will be my last option. He is a a very sweet boy and I hate to lose him at all but I have exhausted all other options. Extended dog care is too expensive so I am here hoping I can find him a new home ( or temporary home). I want what’s best for him. Reach out if interested. Thank you all in advance

Story
UPDATE!!✨ Meet Boudreaux. He’s an adorable Doxie/Lab mix that came to us from a local overcrowded shelter. He’s 1-2 years old and weighs 25 lbs. He’s super friendly and loves all people and animals. He’s great at doggy daycare and doesn’t mind a car or crate. He’s it’s, hw neg (tested below detectable levels) and neutered!  Our adoptions are NOT on a first come first serve basis and there is no fee to apply! We never state any animal is fully House-trained. New environments, situations, families, routines, ect. can lead to accidents even with the most well trained animals.  All dogs have a $175 adoption fee which includes vet check, age appropriate shots (atleast 2 sets for puppies), dewormer, heartworm test (if over 6 months), rabies (if atleast 16 weeks) and spay/neuter! Puppies will be altered before adoption. All rescues and shelters practice pediatric spay and neuter. This is essential in our rescue efforts and it is a policy that we will stick by. All dogs over 8 weeks and 2 pounds will be altered before adoption. There are no exceptions to this rule on all healthy and adoptable dogs. We have researched and discussed in depth with multiple vets everything on pediatric spay and neuter and from a rescue stand point it must be done. Please do not ask for an extension on spay and neutering, it will NOT be granted on a healthy puppy!  Puppies/Dogs that are not available for adoption due to vetting not being complete can be reserved with an approved application and a non refundable $50 deposit. Deposits can ONLY be submitted once the rescue has been in contact on your approval and it has been requested through Wags and Whiskers. This deposit is applied to your adoption fee and the remaining $125 is due at pick up. Wags and Whiskers is an all-volunteer rescue. Please allow us time to respond to all inquires and applications! Story
🐾 Meet Alex 🐾 Alex is a 10-month-old Dachshund mix weighing just 19 lbs—and while he’s small, his journey into confidence is going to be a big one. Let’s be clear about one thing upfront: Alex has never shown any aggression—he is simply scared. New people, new environments, and new experiences can overwhelm him, so he’s going to need a patient home willing to continue helping him feel safe. Men are still something he’s learning to trust. He’s made great progress and can now coexist comfortably in the same space, but building that trust will take time and consistency. Once he bonds, though, he bonds hard—he quickly attached to his foster mom and now follows her everywhere, soaking up love and attention. Alex is crate trained, potty trained, and uses a dog door like a pro. His crate is his safe space, and he genuinely loves it. He may have occasional nervous accidents when overwhelmed, but that continues to improve as his confidence grows. Leash work is still a work in progress, as it’s something that scares him right now. Because of this—and because he has shown he will look for ways to escape—a secure fenced yard is required. He also must have another dog in the home. This is not optional for Alex. He thrives by following the lead of other dogs and gains confidence from them. He’s been fantastic with his foster siblings, reads their cues beautifully, and loves to play. Having a confident, playful, well-balanced dog will make all the difference for him. Outside is Alex’s happy place. He absolutely lives for it—running, exploring, and soaking up the fresh air. If it were up to him, he’d spend all day out there just being a dog. 🐶 Alex’s Must-Haves: Another confident, playful dog in the home A secure fenced yard A patient, committed adopter Someone willing to continue working on confidence and leash skills Alex isn’t a “ready-made” dog—but he’s a good dog. A safe dog. A dog who just needs someone to show him that the world isn’t so scary. If you’re willing to put in the time, Alex will give you something special in return—the kind of bond you only get from earning a dog’s trust. 🐾 Adoption Info: All of our animals are fully vetted, which includes spay/ neuter, up to date on vaccines, wormed, heartworm tested and treated if necessary, up to date on flea/tick/heartworm prevention, and microchipped prior to adoption. Our requirements are non-negotiable and include the following: All current pets in the home must be spayed or neutered if over 6 months of age, unless there is a documented medical exemption with veterinary confirmation. All current dogs must be up to date on Rabies and Distemper/Parvo (DHPP) vaccinations. All current dogs must be on consistent, consecutive heartworm prevention. Past dogs listed on the application must also show a consecutive history of heartworm prevention. To start the adoption process, please fill out our application here: - https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/WAG/Dog Please note: The dog you're applying for might already have a meet-and-greet scheduled, be on a trial with another family, or has been offered to another rescue within our network Don't worry though - we're always happy to help you find another great match if that happens! Our goal is to make sure every pup ends up in the best home for their needs (and yours too!)
