Story
This is the write up from the shelter where he was going as a stray. I couldn't have said it any better because they have an awesome writer! (Altered a bit)If you're on the hunt for a senior small dog, please make sure to check out Preston.Preston was found roaming all by his lonesome here in Huntsville. He was found by a citizen with overgrown nails, covered in mud and with mats throughout his body. This poor boy has definitely been through it and has realized since arriving here that he isn't cut out for the stray dog life. He'd rather be on the sofa with you than out running the streets. If you're looking for a pet that likes to cuddle, you'll definitely find that in him. From what the shelter observed, Preston does not care for toys or treats. The best reward in his eyes is to be close to you. He is pretty laid back and not very energetic at all, so he might be a good fit for a home that can't have a more busy dog at their feet. We believe he is a dachshund mix, and due to his medium length fur, will need a home that can provide consistent grooming to help keep him comfortable. Preston is estimated to be around 7 years and 12 lbs. A standard long hair dachshund blend (with what, we have no idea). He doesn't seem to be house broken but will go out with the other dogs. He poops in the house, but the Foster hasn't seen him pee inside. He must have been kept outside, poor baby, and from the looks of all of the mats and his overgrown nails, I wouldn't doubt it in the least. He can wear a belly band in case he does decide to pee in the house until he's potty trained but the Foster works full time so that would be on a new owner to do. His ideal Home would be someone who was home most of the time or someone who would put him behind the gate in a bathroom with potty pads while they're away until he understands that going out or using potty pads is best. You can still teach an old dog new tricks, of course, so potty training is on the horizon with dedication. It doesn't usually take long with love and commitment. He's a complete lap dog and a sweet lovable baby boy who only wants to be held.He is heartworm positive but his treatment will be "slow kill" which is a heartworm pill given on the same day each month for the rest of his life. At his age and size, the "fast kill" method is a bit iffy and VERY expensive! All dogs adopted from us are altered, microchipped, heartworm tested, given rabies vaccine, bordetella, distemper parvo booster, flea/tick prevention and heartworm prevention. You must apply at madisonarf.org to adopt and have a vet reference.Adoption fee is $150.00

Story
Sparky is an 8 year old Chi-Wienie that weighs 12 pounds.  He lost his home thru no fault of his own.  Sparky needs time to warm up to new people.  He is friendly and sweet with people he knows, but might hide from those he doesn't know yet.  He is potty pad trained and crate trained.  Sparky loves to sleep covered up in a blanket and rolled up like a burrito.  This boy is a silly, funny little clown, that needs a quiet home without a lot of noise.  An older person would be preferred.  He is neutered, fully vaccinated, heartworm negative and on monthly heartworm and flea preventives.  Sparky's adoption fee is a donation to the rescue in the amount of $300.August 10, 2026, 12:21 am

Story
This is Able! He was rescued along with his two brothers, Cain and Moses. They are believed to be 8-week-old Dachshund/Staffie mixes and up to date on all their shots and just waiting to be altered. They are all very playful and friendly, making friends with everyone they encounter. If you're looking for a young pup that you can raise and train as your own, one of these boys just might be a great fit for you! Come meet him at the shelter and see his personality in person to see for yourself!

Story
Please contact Glenda (fairydogmother@gmail.com) for more information about this pet.Darcy is a two year old low rider/herding breed mix.  Her red and white smooth coat has some merle markings and her eyes are blue and brown, which is a color pattern of a catahoula.  Darcy weighs 25 pounds and she is a beautiful girl.  She is spayed, vaccinated, heartworm negative and on monthly heartworm and flea preventives.   Darcy is friendly, playful and does well with other dogs.  I do not know how she is with cats and will ere on the side of caution and say no cats or to at least use caution when introducing her to cats.  Darcy is ready for her forever home.  The adoption fee is a tax deductible donation to the rescue in the amount of $300 and is required to pay vet bills and feed rescue dogs. August 10, 2026, 12:21 am
