Story
Rocky is a very sweet boy looking for a very special home. Rocky was found on the side of the road after being hit by a car. Thankfully, a wonderful person stopped to help him and contacted Hearts & Homes. Without hesitation, we were able to get him the care that he needed. Rocky underwent extensive surgery to stabilize a fractured spine and bilateral hindlimb fractures. Despite Rocky's extensive injuries, he has come such a long way and is back to feeling like a typical happy, bouncy puppy! What Rocky is not aware of, and what he requires most is a quiet lifestyle with someone that understands his needs moving forward. Given the extent of his injuries, Rocky will require a "low-impact" lifestyle. Due to risk of reinjury and possible need for additional surgeries should reinjury occur, Rocky will never be allowed to use the stairs, jump on or off of furniture, or roughhouse with other pets. Thankfully, his extra-large crate has become his safe haven and he thrives on a routine consisting of controlled leash walks, assistance onto the couch while supervised, and quiet play time with toys -- and boy does he love destroying a toy! 🙂 Rocky is a very sweet and gentle dog but would do best in a home without large/high energy dogs or young children. He would likely be too interested in kitties, and therefore may do best as an only dog. Rocky can be protective of his food around other dogs but does wonderfully when fed in his crate. Rocky would also do best with a family that is home during the day or with someone who may be able to bring him to work on a regular basis as he loves meeting people and will quickly learn where the treat jar is kept!If you are looking for a sweet dog that loves to cuddle, play with toys, and rest his head on your shoulder during car rides, Rocky is your boy! Although his requirements may seem specific, he is still a very young and adaptable dog, so please contact us with any questions or concerns you may have. He would love to meet you! ❤️ Please note that Rocky's final recheck appointment is due in mid to late October, and as long as he gets the "all clear" will be able to be adopted toward the end of October! He is currently being seen at the Auburn University Small Animal Hospital, where he would ideally return for any future care that is required.Adoption applications may be submitted via our website www.heartsnhomesrescue.org.
