Story
Uncle Lewis is about 2 years old and 17 lbs! Lewis is a quiet, thoughtful soul who’s spent most of his life fending for himself. Because of that, he’s learned to rely on independence instead of people—and the idea of love and safety is still new to him. But underneath that cautious exterior is a tender heart just waiting for the right person to show him the world isn’t so scary.Lewis feels safest in the company of calm dogs and in the comfort of his kennel, where he can decompress and observe life at his own pace. He has an avoidant attachment style and needs time, patience, and gentle consistency to learn that humans can be kind. Loud voices, sudden movements, or physical corrections would shut him down completely—he needs a home rooted in softness and respect. He’s also a clever little escape artist, always thinking five steps ahead, so his future family will need secure fencing and a watchful eye. Ideally, Lewis would thrive in a home with at least one calm, confident dog to help show him the ropes. Fast, unpredictable things—like a child on a scooter—can overwhelm him, so a quiet, adult-only household would be best. At this time, we’re unsure how he feels about men or cats.Lewis isn’t a “plug-and-play” dog—he’s a healing heart looking for a patient guide. But for the person willing to meet him where he is, the reward will be watching a once-fearful pup slowly bloom into a dog who finally knows what it means to feel safe.Could you be the gentle home Uncle Lewis has been waiting for?To apply to have your home considered for adoption, read about our adoption process or fees, and find out about interstate transport, please visit our website at https://longwayhome.org/adopt.❤ Long Way Home makes no guarantees on breed--most animals we receive from shelters are mixed breeds.

Story
Meet our Punky boy! At 17 years old, and with 18 lbs of love, Punky is…Spunky (on his schedule) ✔️Stubborn ✔️Snack-obsessed ✔️A certified cuddle lover ✔️Punky is the perfect mix of chill + personality. He loves lounging around, soaking up back scratches and ear rubs… but don’t be surprised if he has a little burst of energy to keep things interesting.😅He gets along great with other dogs, but fair warning, if there’s food nearby, he will try to negotiate extra servings! He’s not a fan of the kennel (very vocal about it), and he’ll need someone patient as he adjusts! But truly, this little man just wants love and someone to be near. ❤️Punky came to us after losing his mom—his whole world. He stood by her through her cancer battle, never leaving her side. From a tiny pup to 17 years old… she was everything to him. Now, he deserves to feel safe and loved again. We are currently running more tests due to some elevated calcium levels, and while there could be something more serious such as cancer, we’re still working to get answers. But no matter what… Punky deserves a home.Whether it’s months or years, he deserves comfort, love, and a soft place to land!🐾If you’ve ever thought about giving a senior dog a chance… this is your sign.Let’s rewrite the next chapter of Punky’s story!✨📍Based in Bryan, Texas. We offer nationwide adoptions and transport!💌Visit our website for the direct link to apply! To apply to have your home considered for adoption, read about our adoption process or fees, and find out about interstate transport, please visit our website at https://longwayhome.org/adopt.❤ Long Way Home makes no guarantees on breed--most animals we receive from shelters are mixed breeds.

Story
Meet Flea! 🐾Flea is about 12 years old and 15 lbs. This senior may be small, but his heart is HUGE! This little love bug is happiest when he is curled up with his people, soaking up all the snuggles, attention, and belly scratches he can get.Flea is also the official roaching king! You can usually find him belly-up, wiggling around, just waiting for someone to notice how adorable he is and give him some scratches. He is curious, silly, and loves to follow his people around like a little shadow so he can “sniffspect” everything they are doing! He enjoys short walks with lots of good smells, park outings where he can meet people and pets, and then coming home for a very important senior nap. Flea is house trained, crate trained, good on a leash, good with cats, and can be trusted to be left alone while his people are away. He does not chew things he shouldn’t, but he may try to sneak a bite of cat food if the opportunity presents itself!Flea would love a home with multiple people so he has even more humans to adore. He is sweet, easy, affectionate, and has so much love left to give!Flea is currently undergoing heartworm treatment. He can be adopted now by someone in the Bryan/College Station, TX area, or he can be adopted after completing his heartworm treatment in September. This precious boy is so ready to find the family who will love him through his golden years. ❤️To apply to have your home considered for adoption, read about our adoption process or fees, and find out about interstate transport, please visit our website at https://longwayhome.org/adopt.❤ Long Way Home makes no guarantees on breed--most animals we receive from shelters are mixed breeds.

Story
Meet Paula! 💕Paula is a 12-year-old, 14 lb Dachshund with the sweetest little soul. She is calm, submissive, and happiest when she’s snuggled up with her people or burrowed under the covers like the cozy queen she is.Paula was found as a stray and ended up at the shelter, where she was at risk for euthanasia until her foster stepped up to give her a safe place to land. Now, she is safe and ready for her forever home.Paula does well with other dogs and cats, but she mostly keeps to herself and stays close to her humans. She is crate trained and does well going potty either outside or on pee pads. She also recently had a dental, so she’s feeling fresh and ready for her next chapter!Paula is the perfect little companion for someone looking for a gentle, snuggly senior to love. 🐾To apply to have your home considered for adoption, read about our adoption process or fees, and find out about interstate transport, please visit our website at https://longwayhome.org/adopt.❤ Long Way Home makes no guarantees on breed--most animals we receive from shelters are mixed breeds.
